“Excellent from eye test through to purchasing new glasses. Sue and Taiba are a credit to the company, they were exceptionally helpful and professional. I would highly recommend visiting them.”

“The best eye test ever, the guy testing was superb, easy test, explained at every stage. Glad you now take photograph, that was the one thing that nearly stopped me coming to you. You are expensive, but the the care this time was superb.”

“Had a really positive experience today at the High St, Weston super Mare. The Optometrist was fantastic, very reassuring, informative and thorough - a credit to Scrivens. The staff were also very welcoming. Will definitely recommend to others.”

“Used Skrivens Opticians at 212 Hoe St, London E17 3AY to get Coopervision's Biofinity Toric Multifocal contact lenses because Specsavers and Vision Express, where I usually go, don't offer them just yet. They ordered trial lenses based on my most recent prescription from Vision Express. After the first fitting session, I was charged £25. When I mentioned that I was claiming JSA and shouldn't be charged a fitting fee, I was told that it would be deducted from my first order of lenses. I had two more fitting sessions after that because the "add number" needed to be increased. When I popped in again - a couple of days after my last fitting session - to order my lenses, I was told it would be £255(!) for three months, even though I was quoted £170 by two different members of staff before. The reason for that was apparently the FITTING FEE OF £85 CHARGED BY THE MANUFACTURER (?) and I would have to pay it every time I order my lenses. I complained to Coopervision, the manufacturer of lenses, explaining that £255 every three months is £1020 per year, and for that, I can have a laser eye surgery for one eye, so I would be better off sticking to the glasses for next two years, and then have the surgery. I presume that Coopervision has contacted The Scrivens because today I had a call from their Head Office. The £85 fitting fee is apparently a one-off fee charged by Scrivens rather than the manufacturer but I have to pay it even though I'm on benefits because that's their policy and that's what they charge their clients. Well, for me, this is a pure corporate greed no matter how much they try to advertise themselves as "family business". Anyway, popped in to a tiny private Opticians down the road from where I live and they can order these lenses for me for £161. Instructed my bank to reverse the payment of £25. Bye Scrivens!!!”

“First class service from the moment I entered, albeit ten minutes early. I particularly welcomed the excellent communications with the optometrist. My wife and daughter are now arranging appointments after poor experiences with better known high street businesses.”

“I am always very nervous about having my eyes tested having had a detached retina as a teenager - I hate people looking in my eyes. All I can say is with gentle persuasion I was persuaded to have a full eye exam - thanks to the sympathetic and caring attitude shown. The exam was very thorough and carried out very professionally. The lady who helped me chose my frames once again very patient and helped me (eventually!!) chose some brilliant frames. Thank you”

“I make these comments in respect of 2 recent visits to the shop. I found that both the hearing and sight professionals were very good and made me feel at ease. However, whilst there can be no direct criticism being directed at the shop front staff, I found them rather aloof and not really welcoming. In fact on my first visit, I had to stand and wait for a while whilst 2 members of staff finished a conversation.”

“I attended the Chesterfield Branch with my mum Mrs Janet Middleton who is 87 for both hearing and eyesight tests. She was delighted with the professional care she received and the attentive polite and friendly service she was shown from Tracy and Selina with regard to her glasses being chosen and fitted once made. Also she would like to thank the optometrist who examined her eyes and Sarah who did her hearing test. All her visits went smoothly and on time. She would like to pass on her thanks as it meant so much to her the be treated so well and with such care.”

“I’ve been using your branch in Milton Keynes for several years I cannot fault the service it has been brilliant, the staff are very helpful, one member I think her name is Aktar (not sure if spelling either) remembers me from one year to the next and is always very pleasant and friendly. My only negative would be that I don’t see the same optician each time, but they have all been good”

“I always receive good service and a friendly welcome at Scrivens. I have got to know them well over the time I have been going there and was happy to send my Swiss friend to them when she was over here staying with me. She was delighted with her glasses. “I had a good experience. First, I had a glaucome test offer regarding my family history. I was not aware that I can have it done. Then I had time to try many pair of glasses, advice before making my choice. Finally, 3 days later, my glasses were ready.”
