“I purchased Starkey Evolve AI 1200 RIC rechargeable hearing aids from Scrivens (Fakenham) in September 2023 for £2,195. At the time of sale, the focus was entirely on how much better they were than NHS aids. What was not clearly explained before payment was taken was the limited two-year warranty, the realistic 3–5 year lifespan, or the potential repair costs once the warranty expired. Just over two years later, the left aid developed a battery imbalance issue — discharging significantly faster than the right and failing to charge fully overnight. I was advised I would need to pay to have them sent away for inspection and likely repair, despite the fault arising only shortly after the warranty expired. When I raised concerns about pre-sale disclosure and product durability, these were dismissed. I was offered 50% off a repair “as a gesture of goodwill” but no acceptance that the situation itself was unreasonable. For comparison, I have since attended an NHS audiology appointment. The assessment was more thorough, the explanation clearer, and I was provided with hearing aids that are, in my experience, better suited to my hearing needs. Speech clarity is significantly improved, background noise is reduced, and even my TV volume has dropped by a third. They were provided free of charge, with free maintenance and replacement after five years. I accept I cannot undo the purchase, but I do feel I have effectively wasted over £2,000. Based on transparency, value and outcome, I would not choose Scrivens again for hearing care.”

“Been into the Didcot branch this morning. The optometrist there Nagi has been monitoring an ongoing eye condition that I have. I’m currently suffering from Agorophobia so find it difficult to leave the house on some days. Jo the optical advisor was excellent and did the OCT scan for me. The service was quick and both Nagi and Jo were both sympathetic and caring. Nagi was visibly pleased with the improvement in my eyes. Excellent customer care and friendly staff”

“6 months after having my first hearing aids from Scrivens, they do, at last, seem to be functioning properly. Have been to the Exeter Centre several times, and my last visit was to see Kiran who was most helpful and thorough. Very friendly and spent time getting things right. And also at the Exeter store, was a lady receptionist (unfortunately I didn’t get her name - had grey/blonde bobbed hair), who was extremely pleasant and very helpful. The staff they have now seem to be working very hard to get things right, after the transition from Chime.”

“I only recently decided to try the Sutton - in -Ashfield branch of Scrivens opticians,and couldn’t be more pleased with the service I received. A very warm and professional manner which I received from Kim(sales) and Donna (sight test) which was very thorough and the best I’ve received for years I will definitely be going back again next year Thanks to all the staff.”

“Team couldn’t be more helpful with a set of hearing aids that need to be serviced. I visited them in mid January and they were ready as advised within the two week timeline that’s set. The chap in there was absolutely brilliant looked at my ears. Make sure there’s nothing else going on and when I went to collect the offering new batteries lovely Lady in there and the work well as a team. The Lady couldn’t be more helpful in her service and therefore I’m more than happy to give this review well done team.”
