Turf was wonderful, delivery driver was unhelpful and rude

The website is very people friendly but would not allow me to pay for my chosen product, resulting in a telephone call to place my order. Your lady who answered my call was efficient and polite and solved my problem.

The soil was good but the pallet was defective ( broken) and so the bag fell onto the road and spilled half of its contents as it was being lifted off the lorry. Donal Dowds

Overall, I'm satisfied, but there is room for improvement. The ordering process was helpful and efficient, ensuring that my delivery was for the correct day and allowing me to postpone after unforeseen problems in preparation. The delivery wasn't perfect; in fact, a little odd. The first I knew was to discover the driver half way up our path in his 3-wheeled forklift truck, having parked his wagon some 300 yards farther down the road, for reasons best know to himself. He then didn't ask where I wanted the delivery (not where he put it) and when he placed the second pallet damaged our paving stones by pushing the first pallet further up the drive. When it came to laying, the topsoil was slightly odd, with layers of unmixed sand, but it was okay. The turf itself, though, was only just about adequate. I'm not quite sure how anyone could determine if they had received the quality paid for, but this seemed nothing special, though I'd paid for the 'Jubilee' which is supposed to be a better standard. It also had curious patches of clay visible on the underside, which meant the finish feels decidedly 'lumpy' as the clay is far less compressible. More importantly, I think their turf cutter needs resetting, as the turfs were thicker on one side than the other (this was only slight, so wasn't too problematic). The most worrying aspect of all, though, relates to the quantity delivered. I had determined through a laser measure and computer drawing that I needed just about 50sq metres, but had ordered 60sq metres to be on the safe side. I was left with two rolls (one of which was very thin, scraggy, and uneven towards the end) and perhaps 1sq metre of offcuts. Something does not add up!

Hi, 1/3-1/2 of the turfs showed damage from the heat. Now they are yellow/dying...

Was guided to the Turfonline website from a different website to buy sedum roof fertilizer. The product was different with no explanation so to was confusing. After making the order the confirmation details had a lot of information about lawn fertilizer. At first I thought I had ordered the wrong product. Again, very confusing.

The website is easy and convenient to use , although there seems to be a long term issue with dates of delivery not being confirmed correctly. The communication from the company is good. The quality of the turf so far ( i've ordered 2 seperate times ) hasn't been great unfortunately. The first lot of turf was ridiculously thin and crumbled in my hands. Of the second order of turf (last week), 20% of it has just died. Not too impressed so far.

Would have given more stars but their customer service/information was not good. I phoned for information when prepping a summer house for a green roof for a client. I was told that the 'meadow roof' was fitted just like the sedum roof kits that I have used before. When I phoned again to order the meadow roof and pressed them for more info I was told that the meadow roof needed 100mm of topsoil substrate. This is completely different from the sedum which needs no extra substrate. The upshot of this was that my client had to have the sedum roof instead as it was too late to make allowance for the soil and I was left hundreds of pounds out of pocket. Customer service were not very helpful.

Not impress with the turf. Some of the rolls were damage by the forklift and the rolls were not consistent in the thinkness. I only ordered 19 m2 so was disappointed that they could not have made an effort to give me 19 decent rolls of turf.

The delivery was great and arrived exactly on time. I was however a little dissapointed with the turf supplied. I would say around 75% of the turf was in great condition, however 25% of the turf seemed to have black marks that looked like mould or rotting grass or tears and holes... I continued to lay these pieces as i needed them to cover the back garden and thought that the scars would turn green and grow as usual once it was laid. This however does not seem to be the case as it is now turning a white colour and basically just soil. I am really happy with the service, but given a second chance I would report the "scarred" turf as soon as i discovered it or source my turf elsewhere. I took some pictures to show the turf and tried to highlight the scarred areas that are now dead.

Turf arrived early but once layed I had seen quiet a few bold patches that I wasn’t expecting. Hopefully the grass will recover

Quality of turf very good. The only problem was that the turf turned up two days early. Luckily we could divert staff to lay. A real inconvenience... Turfline acknowledge that there is a “possible” problem with the online system. Be aware and check following ordering!

having recently purchased 44 rolls of turf for my garden project I was very pleased with the quality and ease of your website. Making the ordering process very easy and straightforward. It was also very handy to use your online calculator tool, which let me select the correct number of rolls for my project. However, this didn't go according to plan... On the day of delivery, the driver was very rude. He complained that my driveway was awkward to access. I've received many deliveries by large lorry before with no issues. My neighbours were very annoyed because he threatened to drive over their grass. Again, unnecessary because my driveway is very accessible. He also said it would be impossible to place the pallet as far back as possible and out of the way of my car so I could park easily. Again I said it was possible to reverse back very far, but he insisted on dropping the rolls halfway onto my driveway, meaning I could not park my car behind, and I have a very large driveway that can easily fit two cars parked behind each other. I had to park on the road because there was no room now. So not very impressed with his attitude and customer service. I lay the turf the very next day (Saturday), after lifting the old grass off and preparing the ground surface. I was very surprised after finishing off the large circle that I was left with about 27 rolls of turf still (from 44). Obviously, the smaller circle would not require that many rolls to cover it. At the end of the day, I had finished laying all rolls of turf required and was left with 20 rolls. I basically used 24 rolls from the 44 quoted. How could this have been so inaccurate? I have been directly in touch with you by email because I'm very unhappy about this waste of turf and waste of money and I would like to be compensated for my loss. Lastly, I was unhappy with a few rolls which had dead patches of grass on it. I really hope these recover.

Hi Dylan, Sorry to hear that you had issues with your delivery. There's no excuse for a driver to be rude, and I will make contact with the delivery company about this. I have emailed you as regards the calculation problem you had. I have verified that there is no issue with the calculator on the website and have sent you a diagram with the error that was made as regards the measurements you took. If you need any more clarification, please get back in touch.

Wasn't massively happy with turf. I feel I had hidden crappy rolls within the pallet. A few of the rolls had big chunks missing and once laid down realised there was some dead patches. Also a few too many large stones for my liking. Wouldn't recommend to a friend. Better to try your luck with another supplier.

The turf arrived with no issues and was of a high standard. The delivery driver was really rude and ignorant. My experience was fed back to the company who said they would get back to me, but didn't.

The meadow is lovely and growing very well. I am more than happy with it. However, I asked for the turf to be delivered in one square metre rolls. Instead, it came in rwo square metre sections. My sister and I were unable to move it at all. I had to seek out a couple of workmen and pay them £20 apiece to bring it through to the back garden. I then had to cut it up so that I could move it to the prepared bed. This made the process rather more time-consuming than it need have been.

Know it was the wrong time of year to order turf but we prepared the ground meticulously and made sure it was well watered, the turfs were very dry when delivered(again it was a very hot day) but were delivered on two pallets 50 on one and 20 on another which seemed strange ? The turf from the pallet with 20 were very different from the others and when laid seemed a grey/green colour not green like the others these went brown very quickly (even though they were watered in) they have recovered somewhat since laying (19th May). Have ordered from you previously and the quality was not the same as the first order some split some thin, as I said may be the time of year but if this is a problem maybe you should inform the customer that it is not a good idea to take delivery at this time of year.
