About Friars.co.uk:

It all started back in 1927 when William Long had the fabulous idea of opening a luxury chocolate shop in the picturesque town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District. He probably never dreamed it would still be in the same family nearly 100 years later.

In those early days the shop only opened during the summer months and it is believed William chose to winter in the Madeira sunshine. As you would expect the business has evolved in many ways since then, however certain principles remain since those early days.

Innovation – We were the first to make a prosecco truffle and then shortly after we followed with our fabulous gin truffle. More recently; although Easter eggs are synonymous with Easter, we decided to move away from the main stream and invented our famous hot cross bun truffle.

But all this only scratches the surface; we are also one of the first chocolate makers to start transitioning to 100% biodegrade packagingM as well as pioneering vegan milk and white chocolate...among other things.

Quality – Any new chocolate must meet certain requirements to get past our strict tasting panel. If one of the panel gives a score below 9/10 then we simply won’t offer the chocolate to our customers.

Longevity – We are immensely proud of our historic routes and in this fast moving, ever changing world, we take pride in our tradition and heritage. Our rose and violet creams are the same ones that William sold on that first day of opening, back in 1927. We have survived and prospered over the last 90 years and with the launch of our Ambleside store and an online service, we fully intend to be around for the next 100 years.

After all life is too short, so why settle for ordinary chocolate?

Ordered on the 12/12 for next day delivery. Didn't receive order called 2 days later.was told delivery was on its way. 4 days later a replacement order was made. A week later no order received. So called to request a refund.

Hello Tracey, I'm sorry that you did not yet receive either parcel. This is currently something we are looking into as they were both sent on a tracked service and should have been with you within 24 hours of dispatch. I can only apologise on behalf of Royal Mail, who we use to deliver our parcels and I understand this is not acceptable; especially at this time of year when you have paid for a service you did not receive. Did not get the return confirmation of delivery, called you after four days and was told need to check. It was at the depot and did not deliver in expected dates. Delivery person was rude. Disappointed! Supposed to be a surprise gift for the receiver, ended with a hassle.

Very disappointing not come as expected. We used to get Friars products years ago and these were definitely not up to standard.

I brought a pack of 3 chocolate lipsticks and when they arrived one of them had broken. Very disappointed as it was a gift and now looks shoddy.

They didn't make me happy they sent me something that had melted and looked a mess. Husband present was ruined!!

Unfortunately we were unprepared for the hot weather and we are now in the process of researching cool packs and reflective packaging to try and avoid this happening in the future. I bought a chocolate PlayStation controller and when my husband opened it, it was all melted over the box and it looked a state. You need to think again about packaging chocolate when sending out.

Unfortunately we were unprepared for the hot weather, at the time of sending your order it wasn't very hot where we are, but Cumbria does seem to have it's own weather system. We are in the process of researching cool packs and reflective packaging to try and avoid this happening in the future.
