About Friars.co.uk:

It all started back in 1927 when William Long had the fabulous idea of opening a luxury chocolate shop in the picturesque town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District. He probably never dreamed it would still be in the same family nearly 100 years later.

In those early days the shop only opened during the summer months and it is believed William chose to winter in the Madeira sunshine. As you would expect the business has evolved in many ways since then, however certain principles remain since those early days.

Innovation – We were the first to make a prosecco truffle and then shortly after we followed with our fabulous gin truffle. More recently; although Easter eggs are synonymous with Easter, we decided to move away from the main stream and invented our famous hot cross bun truffle.

But all this only scratches the surface; we are also one of the first chocolate makers to start transitioning to 100% biodegrade packagingM as well as pioneering vegan milk and white chocolate...among other things.

Quality – Any new chocolate must meet certain requirements to get past our strict tasting panel. If one of the panel gives a score below 9/10 then we simply won’t offer the chocolate to our customers.

Longevity – We are immensely proud of our historic routes and in this fast moving, ever changing world, we take pride in our tradition and heritage. Our rose and violet creams are the same ones that William sold on that first day of opening, back in 1927. We have survived and prospered over the last 90 years and with the launch of our Ambleside store and an online service, we fully intend to be around for the next 100 years.

After all life is too short, so why settle for ordinary chocolate?

The chocolate was wonderful but I won't be ordering anything else from you because I'm absolutely hacked off with you emailing me every day.

I ordered the box of cappuccino cupcake chocolates for £40. Wished I hadn’t bothered, the chef must have forgotten to put the coffee in there, they were horrible. Emailed sales team and there response was disgraceful saying they are not to everyone taste! I WILL NOT BE ORDERING AGAIN 😡

I've had these chocolates before and enjoyed them. I treated myself to them for Easter. And I was very very disappointed. The taste was just OFF the nuts tasted stale... And this sugar dusting over the top was unpleasant.

As it was a routine purchase, I hadn’t expected to need to respond, but you keep asking, so here it is. Melts New Berry Fruits got their name from producing a jelly sweet that had a liquid filling inside a sugar ball - regrettably, they’ve changed that product totally, so it not longer ‘delivers’ that uniqueness it once did. VERY disappointing and the cost is, too.

Hi Ian, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately the original Meltis Newberry fruits haven't been available for a few years now. The description of the product does say that the centre is a soft jelly as opposed to a liquid but we are sorry for any disappointment caused. With regard to the cost of the product, we do state both the weight and the number of jellies in the box so customer know what to expect when their item arrives. I bought these as a present my wife who wanted a good coffee chocolate and the price made me think that is what I was buying I was surprised that the box I was sent was close to their best before date My wife was disappointed that the majorty were white chocolate of sickly cream and had very little coffee flavour My search for a good product continues

Disappointing, the chocolates had leaked before arrival ,so sticky box inside and out ,some empty chocolates. Won't buy again.

In the mint collection the fondant was too sweet, the chocolate on the mint cream was too thick at the top the mint crunch and frosted were best of a poor assortment. I love mint chocolates but was disappointed with this selection

I bought Turkish delight and wasn't too happy with the product. There were 5 rose pieces amongst 19 lemon, I'm not really sure how it passed quality checks being that unequal in ratio.

I ordered this before 9 am, on 18th December and paid extra for next day delivery. I was not dispatched until 6pm that day and it was dispatched so late that it missed any hope of being delivered next day. Very poor. I will ensure I do not use this company in the future because they are unreliable and you do not get what you pay for.

Packing of product in delivery box was poor and not fit for delivery by mail. The design of the product box itself is poor, the chocolates move very easily and all get displaced. Not good when bought for a gift.

I've just received my order including a packet of Buttered Brazils amongst other things. The packet was completely torn open, the contents all over the bottom of the box, some broken, all the toffee had gone sticky and transferred to the box containing Sugared Almonds. Both articles are presents so can't give them as they are. I'm disappointed and reading other reviews, this does seem to happen. Heaven knows why this really great company haven't figured out what's going wrong?? I've contacted Customer Services and am hopeful they can redeem themselves. But beware.. Its pretty shabby when you consider they are quite high end chocs... Could have easily gone elsewhere.

Chocolates were lovely- however I paid extra for NEXT DAY DELIVERY, my order arrived four days later than the next day, so the service provided by Friars was very poor

My delivery was thrown over the fence on a day when the rain was torrential. The instructions I had given were to put the delivery under the mat - which was protected from the weather. In light of this disgraceful act from the delivery driver, the outer and inner boxes were soaking wet, and delivered on the wrong day - they were supposed to be delivered two days later and were delivered two days early. The product was not in a good condition when it arrived. If I could give 0 stars, I would have done so.
