About Friars.co.uk:

It all started back in 1927 when William Long had the fabulous idea of opening a luxury chocolate shop in the picturesque town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District. He probably never dreamed it would still be in the same family nearly 100 years later.

In those early days the shop only opened during the summer months and it is believed William chose to winter in the Madeira sunshine. As you would expect the business has evolved in many ways since then, however certain principles remain since those early days.

Innovation – We were the first to make a prosecco truffle and then shortly after we followed with our fabulous gin truffle. More recently; although Easter eggs are synonymous with Easter, we decided to move away from the main stream and invented our famous hot cross bun truffle.

But all this only scratches the surface; we are also one of the first chocolate makers to start transitioning to 100% biodegrade packagingM as well as pioneering vegan milk and white chocolate...among other things.

Quality – Any new chocolate must meet certain requirements to get past our strict tasting panel. If one of the panel gives a score below 9/10 then we simply won’t offer the chocolate to our customers.

Longevity – We are immensely proud of our historic routes and in this fast moving, ever changing world, we take pride in our tradition and heritage. Our rose and violet creams are the same ones that William sold on that first day of opening, back in 1927. We have survived and prospered over the last 90 years and with the launch of our Ambleside store and an online service, we fully intend to be around for the next 100 years.

After all life is too short, so why settle for ordinary chocolate?

Picture on website very misleading. I did not expect large eggs but was very disappointed in their actual size .Perhaps you could make it clearer in your advertising of the product .

I bought a selection of chocolates and whilst some, like the coconut pieces were great, good taste, value for money, some others were really not very nice. The rum truffles didn't taste of Rum and the dark chocolate was really too bitter and I love dark chocolate. Definately a mixed bag!

The chocolates were for my mums 92nd birthday. Being diabetic I was trying to find chocolates that were low in sugar. The chocolates arrived on time and the box looked good. I was a bit disappointed when my mum opened the box. The chocolates were a bit shaken up. The reason is that despite there being a number of different shaped chocolates, the plastic tray shapes were all the same with no attempt at matching the shape of the chocolates. The result being that the contents weren’t held in place and just sat roughly in the area provided. I also felt that the chocolates were very ordinary considering they are very expensive in my opinion…roughly £1.08 per chocolate plus delivery. I don’t think I will be buying again.

Hi Stuart, Thank you for your review and we're sorry that you were disappointed with the chocolate box. Your feedback will be passed on to the team who pack the boxes to see if anything can be done regarding the trays used. With regard to the price of the chocolates, we do state the weight and dimensions of the product on the listing to give customers an idea of the size but again we are sorry you found them to be expensive. Kind Regards, Friars Customer Service.

LOVELY CHOCOLATE BUT THE PACKAGING WAS VERY POOR. THE EGGS WERE JUST DUMPED IN A BOX WITH NO WRAPPING EXCEPT FOR PLASTC AND NO INFO ABOUT THE COMPANY OR THE PRODUCT. VERY DISAPOINTED.

Hi Julie, Thank you for your review and we're sorry you were disappointed with the packaging of the chocolates. We do show in the product images how the product will be supplied, which shows a tray and bag. However, a cardboard sleeve is usually included, and we unfortunately ran out of the packaging. We have made a note to order more than we think we will need next year. Kind Regards, Friars Customer Service

Hi Helen, Thank you for your review and we're sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the best before dates. Our chocolates will have at least 2 months date on them as a minimum although they are usually much longer than this. Sorry again you were disappointed. Kind Regards, Friars Customer Service

My sister in law always give us chocolate as a Xmas gift and I’ve got in love with the brand. Decided to get for Valentine’s Day and I was a bit disappointed. The box of chocolates didn’t come with all the flavors that was in the folder, many of them were the same and the passion fruit truffle doesn’t taste any close to passion fruit. Good quality of chocolate but I was a bit dissatisfied with it

They were nice chocolates on the whole but considering they were boozy they did not taste boozy. I couldn't really tell the difference between them!

They were slightly waxy I thought, not the best chocolates I’ve had and some of the flavours you wouldn’t recognise if you were blindfolded personally I wouldn’t buy them again

I felt that the chocolates were over priced for size. When I received the very small pack of 6 chocolates for £5 I was disappointed I had ordered 6 for Xmas gifts

The sugared almonds were a very good price. However, despite having a nice flavour, the coating was far to hard and a result I would not buy these again.

Kirsch Cherries - overall good quality, however it could be better packaged and the chocolate nibs it's dipped in feels cheap. These nibs also get all over the packaging and diminishes the quality of the chocolate and beautiful cherries. The base is also a bit thick. If these little things could be improved this would be a 5* product. It was enjoyable overall.

Delivery was smooth. Unfortunately, in one box half of the chocolates were broken and the recipient was rather disappointed.

Poor value. Never gave the Teetotal chocolate box to my friend because it didn’t reflect the cost. Sorry to be negative this year.
