I have not received my order and I have sent an email to get the update on my ordered item. I paid extra for the express delivery, not heard from customer service even once. If the Royal mail is on strike, and they knew there will be a delay, they should not charge for express delivery. Not sure if the customer service not replying has got something to do with the Royal Mail strike. Horrible experience so far. Hope I'll receive the item before end of the week.

Order placed on 21st Nov for one engraved knife (in stock). Paid for express shipping (1-3 days). No delivery by 5th Dec, phoned and asked by F&T to call back following day. I was out all day, so called back on 7th (still no knife). Asked for cancellation and refund. Told that they'd send me a return label and I'd get a refund once knife returned...? They have agreed to refund the express fee at least and say that if the knife is not here by the 9th they will initiate a lost parcel process. It was a birthday present, appreciate there was a postal strike for a couple of days, but we're 2+ weeks on. Lesson learned. Local supplier has turned one round for me in two days, albeit slightly more expensive. If in doubt, shop local.

Hi Alistair, I see that the knife did arrive on 9th December and I appreciate that over 2 weeks is a significantly longer time than expected - unfortunately the Royal Mail distribution centre was really affected by the strikes and additional load due to Black Friday sales and some parcels got blocked in the centre, this took some time to clear. We refunded the postage and we're happy to receive the item back if it is too late to gift, we have a free returns service on our website. Best wishes, Jude

Well, I'd love to give a positive review but 12 days after ordering an item on a 'Trusted Courier - Express (1-3 days)', I've still not got it. Had to send three emails to chase for the tracking number. I eventually got a response from an order I placed on the 23rd saying that the order shipped on the 28th! Ok, there's a mail strike ongoing but 5 days later and I'm still waiting. Then today I received an email with the line...At Farrar & Tanner we are passionate about delivering a high level of customer service...well you;ve not in this case chaps.

So sorry you've not received your order - with the strike action from Royal Mail happening on 25 November as well as 28 November, along with increased orders due to Black Friday, it seems the whole of the postal system has been impacted by this and significant delays have been seen, I hope that the parcel has since arrived. Tried to place an order online but couldn't, waited until they finally allegedly open at 9am to order over the phone, was told by an automated message that I was in a que and my position was number one... only to be cut off after six minutes!!!!.... Staggeringly incompetent customer service, very disappointed!!!

Sorry to see you've had trouble placing an order - we are still receiving many orders daily, there doesn't appear to be a specific issue. We do have a queueing system which, after 5 minutes should offer you the choice to leave a voicemail so that you are not on hold for an unnecessarily long time, perhaps there was a fault with the call or service dropped. Over this busy period we do have additional orders and calls, and whilst we do plan for it there may be times when we are extra busy due to circumstances beyond our control, such as additional strike action by Royal Mail.

Ordered goods for delivery on 23rd November. DPD website shows no tracking, parcel still with DPD consumer. Emailed customer services, no response as yet. Beginning to wonder whether this company is a hoax! Credit card has been debited full amount but does not look like it has been despatched.

We bought brown leather , rounDisappointing quality , cups have sharp edges . Advised to only keep drink in bottle for 3 days !!!

Falsely represented product. Claimed that "The box opens to a luxurious velvet tray interior...", when, in fact, it was a cheap plastic liner. And it doesn't even go all the way to the edge, so the unstained interior wood is visible. And the foam liner for the top of the case isn't even cut straight. I made the purchase based on the description of the product being luxurious, and it is anything but that.

Hi Chris, thank you for your review and highlighting this for us, it is a moulded tray inside the box which is flocked for that nice feel to it, it does need to be moulded to retain the chips in place as they are quite weighty. We'd actually used the manufacturer's description but we will now update this. I'll also contact you directly with regard to the foam liner and interior, these are usually so well made that perhaps there's been a problem with your particular set. The engraved silver oval cuff links I bought as a gift for my son’s 21st birthday were disappointing. The engraving was poor and the surface was scratched. I contacted customer services but to date (2 days later) have not received a response. I would not buy a personalised gift from them again.

I ordered on the 1st November for a birthday present and it is now the 9th November and despite having an email saying that that the order is “complete” the tracking details say it has not even reached Royal Mail yet. Very disappointed with the shipping times as I only ordered on the basis that it said 1-3 days

The product that I ordered all can scratched and poorly finished. Upon contacting the CX I received a very friendly response but after explaining the details never heard back in 5 days. The flask also came in a box different to the one in the picture. Since it was a gift for someones birthday, whilst waiting for a response from the customer services it became too late to order a different gift from elsewhere and I ended up gifting the scratched flask hence will make sure to never order from here

Hi David, thank you for your review, I am sorry for the delay in communication - we had sent a new flask out to you on a next day service but we were slow in responding to your reply as we were unexpectedly short staffed. With the original flask, the scratches are often part of the manufacturing of the pewter and usually polish out, however this should have been checked for quality before leaving and polished out by the factory. It looks like perhaps this was missed and I apologise for this. I hope you were able to gift the new flask to your recipient when you received our replacement. Best wishes, Jude

After a great deal of online searching I ordered a personalised wallet from Farrar and Tanner for my grandson's 18th birthday. After the payment was taken from my account I was then informed that the wallet was unavailable. None of the other wallets illustrated looked at all suitable. Although the payment was refunded, I feel very disappointed that I was not able to purchase an item shown as available on the website, and have had to buy a present elsewhere. I

I am sorry we did not have the wallet you ordered available, we really don't like disappointing our customers as we know how long it takes to find the perfect gift. Fortunately this only happens on very occasionally if perhaps an item does not meet our quality control standards or there's been a stock miscount. Hope you were able to find a equally great present and please do return to us for any future purchases, it really is rare for this to happen.

If I could give less than one star I would. I always buy local, but was told the service would be great. Sadly it is not. My watch arrived for a 60th birthday gift and I am in USA. It does not run. I have tried to work with their customer service (I could give them 1 start for that because I did hear back fairly quickly) However, they did not know what my order was, then they tried to get me to return it not from the USA. When I explained I was here they sent me a mailing slip. I have to go 80 miles away to go to the place they say I have to mail it. I am away for a week at corporate budget meetings. So by the time I get home, box it up, drive 80 miles, mail it in and wait an unknown amount of time if ever I get it returned my significant other will not have his birthday gift. Disappointed does not cover where I am and lesson learned I will not buy abroad again. I would hesitate to use this company.

Thank you for your review, however I do feel it's a little unfair. Within your email to us you mentioned the watch was working before you giftwrapped it but then it did not wind. We were more than happy to replace this for you, but did not realise you were in the US when we emailed the returns label. As soon as we knew this we sent instructions for you to arrange a free DHL collection from your home, and in the meanwhile because it's an important gift we are resending the order to you. Your first email to us was Saturday and we responded within 5 minutes, and by Monday we had arranged to resend the watch, and explained how to book the free collection for the broken one. I bought a glass for my husband for our wedding anniversary and had it engraved. The writing that was engraved on the glass was written wonky, not straight at all and it was an additional £8 to have it added. It cost me over £50 for a faulty item. I do not recommend this company at all, very disappointed. Very poor quality. Not worth the money.

I bought this as a gift for my son and I had it engraved with his name. Someone put a hole in the cellophane wrap to take the oyster shucker out to engrave it and then stuck it back in. It looked tacky with the packaging opened. I also was surprised that it was wrapped in cellophane. I was expecting it to be in its own box and not wrapped with plastic. The pieces themselves seemed very cheaply made. I gave him the gift anyway and we will see how long it lasts and if it is very useful. It seems like it will break if it's used to shuck an oyster or break the claws of a lobster. It was very disappointing.

Hi Laura, thanks for your review - we've sold these oyster knives for many years with excellent reviews, if you find that yours does not stand up to the job you've purchased it for, do contact us. We offer engraving as an additional extra as a personalised gift is always well received, unfortunately we do need to open the cellophane to access the tool, however it should always be put back together as discretely as possible so as not to distract from the delight of the gift overall. Unable to review ordered knives since item received was NOT item ordered. Called to report error and was told they would investigate and get back to me. They never did. As the item received was similar decided not to pursue since they were soon to be given as a present.

Service great. Product poor. Wooden chessboard was a laminate effect chessboard finish. Returned easily and refunded quickly. Shame re product.

To clarify, the woods on the chessboard are real wood veneers with a special lacquer finish for the ease of movement of pieces as opposed to a laminate finish.
