“I don’t like the design of pushing the bulb through a small hole in the balls as the split, not a very good Idea, I also thought that the lights were on a continuous line not a circular line, so you cannot hang them along the wall, or not very far. When lite up they do look fantastic.”

Hi, Sorry that you had a little trouble getting the balls on the string of lights. There is a really helpful assembly guide here: https://cableandcotton.com/help/assembly And a Youtube video here: https://youtu.be/_7nkSxE5g2k The slit in the balls is to make it as easy as possible to get the lights into the mini lampshades and then you slide the wire to the hole where it will all sit snuggly and securely. We have now moved to LED lights which do come in a continuous string rather than a loop. Hi Claire, Thanks for the feedback and sorry you were a little disappointed. As we offer a completely customisable service where customers can choose their own bespoke set of lights from a choice of 50 colours, I'm afraid we can't pre-mount the cotton balls onto the light string. In fact, most of our customers find this element of arranging the colours and popping them onto the lights as part of the experience and rather fun. But I appreciate not every one will. Sorry that wasn't quite what you had wanted. I hope every other aspect of our service and product was up to scratch and you're enjoying your Cable & Cotton fairy lights. All the best - Anthony

“I really appreciate being able to choose your own colours. Chose them online, and looked forward to getting them in the house. The colours match the pictures online very well! Even when the lights are switched off, they're still a great decorative piece.”

“Hi, I was a bit disappointed with my purchase. For the price I expected the item to arrive fully assembled and ready to go. I found that the cuts in the balls were too small to fit in the LED and so had to take a Stanley knife and make each one larger after much struggling. I also have arthritis in my hands so I found that inserting the LEDs was both difficult and quite painful. I just thought that considering the price they would be ready to use straight away. On the plus side, the service was good, colour and quality were good and they look really lovely lit up.”

Hi Stephanie, Thanks for your feedback and sorry to hear of your hassle with the cotton fairy light balls. There is an assembly guide here: https://cableandcotton.com/help/assembly But I take your comments on board and we'll try and make it clearer on the website that the cotton balls will need to be popped onto the light string. Each mini lampshade is handmade and sometimes the slits can vary slightly in size and may need to be enlarged a little bit. There's a handy hints and tips Youtube video here: https://youtu.be/_7nkSxE5g2k We're making sure that we're addressing this issue and making the slits a little larger to accommodate the new LED bulbs. As one of our key selling points is that customers can choose their own bespoke colour scheme from 50 colours, I'm afraid we can't pre-mount the cotton balls onto the light string. For most of our customers it is a simple and even fun part of the purchase, but I appreciate, in your case, this was awkward and painful, and for that I apologise. “I love Brighton and whenever we visit I always end up standing outside your store window and enjoy looking at all the lovely coloured balls and fairy lights - I've always thought you've got such a lovely quality and original product... So I bought a gift voucher for a friend's birthday. I made the mistake of not requesting a gift card and when I asked if I could change it Kate was extremely helpful when sorting it out and posted it promptly to me. I know my friend will have such fun choosing her colours!”

“Hi Kate I was really disappointed with my lights. The colours are lovely, but the balls don't stay on the lights, and I've been meaning to contact you to discuss, and explore the possibility of a replacement set. I adore these lights, but they look terrible up as the balls keep dropping off! Please help. Is there anything that can be done please to rectify? Many Thanks, Sophie”

Dear Sophie, Thank you so much for your feedback - I am sorry that the cotton balls are not staying on your cable properly. It may be because the cotton balls were not attached to the bulbs according to the instruction leaflet that came with your order. To attach the balls you have to press down on the hole at the top of each ball with your finger and thumb to find the split next to the hole. You then push the bulb through this slit and pull it along to the hole where it will sit nice and snugly - and will not fall off. If you force the bulb through the hole only, it widens in the process and the balls then have trouble staying on. Please kindly let me know that this is what you did - if the balls are placed on properly they are always secure (you would have to shake the cable very hard to dislodge them). “I had some difficulty with my lovely lights as they died completely. I contacted Cable and Cotton and you suggested that I should change the fuse bulb, which I did and they worked until the next time I put them on. We took out each bulb to test until eventually found the second fuse which we replaced. I have not had a problem since but I was pretty disappointed at the time as it seemed that technology should have moved on since the old Christmas tree fairy light situation. I realise that you have now moved onto LEDs which is a welcome improvement. I love my lights but I did have a disappointing episode!”

Dear Catherine, Thank you for your feedback - I do understand that it is disappointing if the filament cable does stop working. The white-tipped fuse bulb is always located under one of the first two balls when you work your way back from the plug - I am sure you know that now, having looked so hard for it!
