“I paid £45 for someone to take a picture of my back with an Iphone...wasn't impressed. No follow up call either, the email report means nothing without explanation.”

Thank you for reviewing our service. For our TELEDerm service, we use iPhones with compatible dermatoscopes attached to take high resolution images of the structure of skin lesions for diagnosis by skin specialists. The use of dermoscopy is in accordance with UK clinical best practice and is most effective in diagnosing skin cancers. We normally only call patients if there is a diagnosis of possible skin cancer and all other patients receive an email report. Given your comments, our senior nurse has now tried to call you to explain your report further and provide additional reassurance which I hope will be helpful to you. “My nurse's name was Renee she was very competent, easy going, and knowledgeable - and made me feel at ease from the start - the reception team were also very welcoming & helpful...What could normally be quite a traumatic experience was made very easy by your Team and could not be faulted in any way... “The first time I attended the Mole Clinic in 2012 I was very impressed by the service. The nurse flagged up several moles that required being seen by a specialist. The outcome was that one was a BCC and another was atypical and I had them removed. The second visit in 2014 did not seem as thorough and a previously flagged mole was the only one brought to my attention. When I saw the dermatologist to have it removed, she indicated a further 4 that needed to be removed. These had not been picked out by the nurse at the Mole Clinic. A friend I recommended to the clinic was not fully satisfied by the outcome of her visit and is still concerned about one of her moles.”

Thank you for reviewing our service. We value your feedback and appreciate the opportunity to respond. Our nurses aim to ensure that all suspect moles are detected and referred for excision and biopsy as a precaution against skin cancer. They also try to ensure that benign moles are not referred in order to avoid unnecessary scarring and expense. I understand that your dermatologist excised 4 moles which our nurse assessed as benign i.e. not cancerous. Differences in clinical diagnosis are not uncommon and the ‘gold standard’ diagnosis is provided by a pathologist who is able to view excised moles under a microscope. I trust that the 4 moles to which you refer were confirmed by the pathologist to be benign, which would suggest that the assessment by our nurse was in fact correct. I hope this offers you reassurance as to the accuracy of our nurse’s assessment and the high quality of our service. If your friend is still concerned about a mole which our nurse assessed as benign then please ask her to book in for a specialist TELEDerm diagnosis of that mole, which we will be happy to provide on a complimentary basis. “I first visited the Mole Clinic last year because my father was dying from malignant melanoma & I wanted all my moles checked. Last year I found the staff at the Mole Clinic professional & helpful. They recommended an annual checkup for me because of my family history. I have just had my annual checkup & again I found the staff freindly, helpful & professional. I have recommended the Mole Clinic to other members of my family. I will return again next year which is a recommendation in itself because if I am not happy with something I usually vote with my feet & do not return.”

“I was very impressed with the efficiency of the service I travelled from Preston because I am not aware of any similar service nearby. It was very easy to book an appointment and everyone was very friendly and helpful at the clinic. I was very impressed with the knowledge of the nurses and the care and concern they offered. I have been recommending the clinic to all my friends and will return myself regularly. Thank you for providing this service it provides peace of mind and is good value for money.”

“I went to The Mole Clinic for the first time and I was very impressed with Nurse Renae. She gave my skin a thorough examination and made me feel very much at ease. Reception staff pleasant but they could have been better by offering beverages on arrival. I only saw they were available as I was leaving. I will definitely return next year for another check up.”
