“I'd lost all 1000+ images taken on a once in a lifetime cruise and was devastated. I'd tried to recover the files but failed and then discovered R3 Data Recovery on the net and the rest id history. They couldn't have been more helpful and indeed managed to recover virtually all my files from what was probably a faulty SD card. I was delighted to have the images back. “Through stupidity I hadn't backed up my photographs on a second external hard drive for over 2 years. R3 did a highly professional job of collecting, recovering and returning the new and damaged hard drives. Their communications were excellent and exceedingly prompt. They were able to recover 100% of the files and I received the new hard drive within a week of my initial telephone call. Although I will, obviously, prevent this situation happening again, if it were to arise I would have to seriously question whether or not I could justify the expense for what were basically images of holidays, family occasions and my hobby of wildlife photography. Having said that I'm very glad I had the option.”

“Fantastic service, managed to recover all of my data from my HDD. Working in Professional Sport my hard drive is very important to me and was full of videos from the previous season and was very vital to me and our club that we retrived this data. After speaking with R3 Data i was confident enough that they woud be able to do it. Prices are very good was quoted much higher than R3 Data and a much longer turn around time so was very pleased. Hi Richard It is with regret that you feel the communication was poor, and I have to admit in your case it has been a situation which should have been avoided but we were at full stretch at the time. Crucially despite your drive requiring a rebuild and taking up a lot of time in the data extraction phase, indicating it was a drive many labs would have abandoned in favour of easier / more profitable work. It was the sourcing of the correct donor which was the root cause of the issue. Eventually we tracked one down in the US and were able to continue with the recovery attempt. Despite our lab being one of the most productive and cost effective labs, it is only achieved by managing time and costs very carefully. In this situation we actually made a loss on your case having it tie up a recovery channel for over 3 weeks at a time when we were also engaged on very demanding cases as well as dozens of standard jobs. But what sets R3 apart is our willing ness to go the extra mile to get a recovery despite the demands it places on the engineers and lab resources. Think of it like this, many labs faced with your drive would have abandoned and some more unscrupulous types would just charge for the parts and not try to get a recovery. As it was we completed your case on the budget service at the price quoted, I hope you can appreciate in the real world of profit and loss what it means to stick to an agreement wherever possible. Again apologies for the lack of communication but our focus was always on recovery and that was successful. All the best Andy

“I was very happy with the service, it was very but given the price they charged it needed to be. Having worked in the IT industry for 30 years, and having managed a major regional IT business which included maintaining government mainframes I consider myself reasonably well informed as far as the necessities of data recovery are concerned. If you are a large business which has lost mission critical information due to a major malfunction like a disk head crash, then the level of charging is appropriate, however all that happened to us was that a hard disk controller card had failed and needed a new one attaching -maybe 20 minutes work for a skilled tech - I was charged £280 for this. To be fair this included a courier service and the data supplied back to us on a nice portable drive, but all in all the service was costly. My only hope now is that my 18 year old son remembers to back up his school work on google drive so it doesn't happen again”

Hi Jon, I too have over 30 years in IT including over 20 years ago moving and managing data used on mainframes for governmental organisations and other national and international operations so it was good to chat with you. That said my business is the recovery of data from any type of storage device, so I have some of the best data recovery engineers ever assembled in one lab in the UK. And we work in a very competitive and cost effective way. Your particular case was a little more than a simple PCB swap, and in general we would not recommend PCB swaps if a drive was accumulating a long term bad sector list as was the case with yours over and above the damage to the circuitry from a power surge. The donor PCB was sourced, reprogrammed with information from your dead PCB, the drive was then hardware imaged and the inevitable bad sectors from such an old drive were recovered to maximise the quality of the data. As part of the failure your drive had sustained a head crash but not sufficient to require a full rebuild. The data was then transferred to a new drive and verified with a file list and integrity check sent to you. Obviously the entire bill of £286.80 was everything, courier collection, diagnosis, donor pcb, pcb rework / reprogramming, sector by sector imaging, data transfer, file list and integrity check, and a new hard drive plus courier return, obviously the VAT component is something we all would prefer not to have but is unavoidable :-). Do not underestimate the hourly cost of a data recovery lab with trained technicians and the resources and facilities to handle any problems as they arise each engineer represents significant investment and years of training and experience. Hi John Glad you thinks so, most cases do, it is important as was in this case that after realising there was a problem no one interfered with the drive. Although your WD5000AADS-00S9B0 can sometimes be problematic if there is a head crash, In this case it was an overvoltage which had damaged the circuitry but fortunately the heads and platters were not affected and so the degraded / electronic price quoted at the outset was all that was needed.
