Over the telephone and via email the people I dealt with at Pure Cremation Ltd were very polite, respectful and made me feel comfortable that my Dad was being looked after in a professional but caring way. We were also told by the nursing home that the people who collected my Dad were very nice and friendly. The most important thing for me was that my Dad was looked after with care and respect. However, sadly Pure Cremation Ltd did make one very bad mistake and that was to email me with the committal date when I had asked not to know. I was extremely upset by this hence the reason that I have not given a very good review rating.

I was delighted with their service. The only reason not a 5 star review is that one of the members of staff who contacted me by phone had the most patronising telephone voice which I know she felt was comforting bereaved people but it really grated on me and came over as an artifical tone.

Everything was done professionally and simply, however I do have one criticism, on initial contact and after explanation of the service they offered I was told that I would be advised of the date of the cremation and where it took place, this did not happen. I contacted the company, spoke to Harriet on the 20th September and was verbally advised that the cremation was taking place that day in South Oxfordshire Crematorium. Nowhere in their advert does it state that is where the cremation would take place, had it done so I would have chosen somewhere else, I live in Sussex and it is impossible for me to get there to visit the garden of remembrance, and in its way has left me feeling that I have let my mother down.

Dear Ms Williams thank you for your review. We are always committed to giving clients the right level of communication and so and I have looked carefully at your record to assess our performance. Our website is very clear that we use 7 crematoria across England and Wales and there is a map to make it easier to understand where these are located. In addition we always try to help clients understand which of these locations might be closest or more convenient for them so that an informed decision about whether to use our service at all can be made. Every family is asked whether they wish to know the date of the cremation once booked. The instructions that were recorded on your file were extremely clear - you asked only to receive confirmation of the cremation once it had taken place. You happened to call on the day that the cremation was scheduled and so we gave the details. I note also that Harriet had selected the crematorium nearest to you. We do understand the desire to visit a loved one's resting place and would be very happy to make arrangements to return your mother's ashes to you so they can be scattered at a more local venue, allowing you to visit more easily. Kindest regards Catherine Powell

Simple, straightforward, unfussy, but also respectful.

The only concern is that it is still expensive in my opinion for picking up a body, organisin the Cremation and delivering the ashes, it is half the price of using a funeral parlour who are, in my opinion, just ripping off people at a time of great sadness.

We are fairly confident that things went well, although of course we were not there. When we first contacted you, you sounded professional. What we didn't like was the fact that you did not stay in contact, as we had to keep contacting you. We hope that you will contact us soon regarding the ashes. The other thing we were not happy about was the fact that you kept getting the name wrong, and although you apologised, even with this survey, you continue to write to Anna Bauml, when she is the deceased, which really is not professional. Although those things greatly disappointed us, we would still recommend you. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your comments. It is very difficult to always provide the right level of communication - some of our clients simply don't want to know what's going on, others want to hear from us every single day. Getting the balance right is a challenge and we are constantly reviewing this. We completely agree that accuracy is vital and have addressed this with our team. Unfortunately our review system is automated and triggered as soon as the information we are initially given is entered into our systems and doesn't pick up later changes. Thank you for highlighting this. Our dedicated ashes delivery team will be in touch shortly regarding the return of the ashes.

Pure Cremation handled my telephone enquiries about their service in a very professional and caring manner which gave me confidence to select them to carry out my late Aunt's cremation. I did have to repeat some of the information I had provided in my first telephone call during a second call and this is my only criticism.

My husband wanted no fuss so private cremation was ideal. I will now be able to travel with his ashes to Thailand where a Buddhist Monk will preform a simple ceremony before scattering his ashes on the sea. Pure Cremation also provided a Funeral Director's declaration to go with my husbands ashes to minimise issues at customs!

It was the first cremation I have been involved in and found it a good and dignified method. Pure Cremations were just moving premises and there was some delay in receiving my brothers body as they did not want to move it twice. The cremation was handked very well and we had the privilage of pressing the button and played his favourite record and had time alone together with him.

Overall, a very efficient service. There was only one thing, I was unhappy with and that was the delivery arrangements of the ashes. They were scheduled to arrive when I would have been at work. The time was amended without any difficulty but I had had visions of queuing at the local sorting office for my Mother's ashes, which I feel is inappropriate and insensitive. Mutually convenient times need to be put in place for the handover of the remains. I did mention this at the time. Having covered that one blip, the rest of the arrangements were faultless and I would certainly recommend Powell & Family to anyone who needed a service such as this. I sent an email saying as much and thanking them for their service, kindness and sensitivity at the time so I find being asked to write a review a little excessive and somewhat commercial. I appreciate that this is a business like any other, but I would like to hang on to the delusion that cremation is a dignified, personal part of a loved one's departure that transcends marketing and trade. Frankly, I'm a little shocked to be asked to write a review, clearly my comments at the time were insufficient.

Thank you for your detailed response. We really appreciated your positive comments at the time of your mother's funeral and hoped that you would be happy to contribute to an independently moderated feedback process that would help other bereaved families to gain an impartial view of the service we provide and so make an informed, confident decision. I am sorry if this request stirred painful memories, and please be assured that this was not our intention. I hope that you will be comforted to know that after receiving your constructive comments regarding the return of ashes at that time we immediately adjusted our communication process to ensure that every family re-confirms the most convenient date to receive their loved one back into their care. We do rely on frank feedback from those we are privileged to look after, to help us identify any way of refining the service we deliver and I would like to thank you for the part you have played in this. Kindest regards, Catherine Powell.
