I have purchased many items from Farrar & Tanner over the past six years - nearly all of them driven by my passion for Laguiole knives and building up a wonderful collection. Presentation box was lovely but the only problem was I was a couple of digits short with the text . Could do with another 4 digits as there are plenty room on the lid....

Firstly, my understanding of the purpose of “copy” in the context of personalization of a product, is an exact representation of what the customer wants/requires and what the vendor will provide. Both parties are agreed and tied in. In the event that the vendor has differed from that which is due and agreed upon, I would expect the vendor to recognize that fact and “make it right” in the quickest and most seamless way possible. The copy I signed off on clearly shows “!” closest to the tapered end of the belt. The belt I received has the “A” closest to the tapered end of the belt. Instead of agreement and recognition of the difference, I receive an email stating that the belt is printed and supplied correctly. Upon further discussion in a telephone call, initiated by me, it is re-stated that the belt is printed correctly. When I point out the above, the vendor states “the belt is correctly printed, it is the copy that is shown incorrectly”. (Rough content of the conversation as I recall it). Result…….I receive a product different to what I ordered. I am told I will have to return the belt and another belt will be sent out. I was not offered a returns label. It was only after I requested a returns label that one was supplied via email. I got the impression that the phone call would have ended without the offer of a returns label. I would think that, given that my order was supplied incorrectly, you would want to “make things right” asap. I.e get the replacement to me as soon as possible. Instead I am asked whether this item is a gift. I think this question is asked as a way to save money on postage. As in, if it is a gift, we will reluctantly spend money on getting it to you quickly. However, if it is just for “you/me” you can wait. Lastly, I have a final observation:- “The Barbour logo is just upside down, on many of the Barbour belts the logo is upside down however this of course does not affect the use of the belt as it is only seen on the inside.” This is part of one of the emails I received. I find it surprising that it is deemed ok to send a belt where two out of three words printed on the belt are a different way up. To me this does not look professional or shout quality. I find it jarring and not aesthetically pleasing or correct. It cheapens the whole effect. I understand that “it is only seen on the inside”. By the way, the representative that I dealt with was pleasant enough. I think she probably did her best. Perhaps the Company policy was followed to the letter. Kind regards, Dan Wibaut.

Hi Daniel, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m very sorry for the mismatch between the copy you approved and the belt you received, and for the frustration this has caused. I can see my colleague did explain the situation to you, and did offer a return and organised for a replacement belt to be done in the way you'd prefer. Regarding the logo orientation and overall presentation, I appreciate you flagging this. Unfortunately, Barbour do just manufacture their belts with the logo upside down and we are unable to get them to change the way they do that, we can only apologise. We are still awaiting the return of the original belt you received, but I can see the replacement belt we sent out with the engraving done differently has been received. Kind regards, Stacey

This is a review purely regarding customer service (item ordered and awaiting receipt before I can review that regarding quality etc.). Had cause to use the Farrar & Tanner website today but had a few issues with the order I wanted to place and ended up dealing with a customer service staff member - Sue. Blown away by the phenomenal way my query was handled. Sue listened, was very knowledgeable about the products and the website and services offered and completely understood what I needed. Went the extra mile in assisting with gift options and delivery arrangements. Honestly, to deal with a person who wants the very best result for the customer and works so hard to achieve that is fabulous. So, huge shout out to Farrar & Tanner for recruiting such a fabulous employee and an even 'huger' shout out to Sue for the help given to this customer. Outstanding.

I was looking for a small 40th birthday gift for a neighbour . I googled unusual birthday gift and your website came up and as he is a keen cyclist the glass personally engraved fitted the bill perfectly . Excellent efficient t service

Lovely belt my partner really likes it! Could have been clearer where the engraving would end up and what colour it would be. Turned out better than the website makes out but would be better if they engraved the brown side rather than the black side. Quality is really good!
