The new blades are step backwards I'm afraid. They do not shave as close or as quickly as the previous blades and look and feel more 'off the shelf commercial' than the previous blades which were excellent. My feeling is Cornerstone have gone through a cost per unit cutting exercise and subsequently lost some of the individuality and specialist quality the previous blades provided. Please change them back again.

Sorry to hear our new blades are not for you. We developed it specifically with feedback from our members, who asked us to include a trimmer blade, better blade spacing and a more contoured handle. We even asked some members to help test our razor before its release, to be sure we got it just right. I’m sorry it hasn’t felt that way for you.If you pop an email across to help@cornerstone.co.uk they can switch you back to the original razors whilst we still have a stock of them.

The handle is beautiful. Sadly the blades do not give a good shave. They are sharp very sharp, but uncomfortable and do not give a good shave, takes many passes to actually get a decent shave.

Hi Ernie, thanks for taking the time to leave us some feedback - we really appreciate it! Sorry that you haven't had a comfortable shave with the razor. Please do send an email to our care team at help@cornerstone.co.uk if you haven't already as they'll want to know about this and try and help you out. Thanks again for the review and best wishes.

I have just used my razor for the first time, the blades are excellent and give a nice close shave. The handle is awful, shaving uses water and water on the Chrome handle makes it very slippery. It is the worst handle I have used and is very inferior to your competitors . A rubberised handle would make your product truly excellent. I have also not received my aftershave balm which was on my order

Hi John - thanks for the review, I'm so sorry to hear you are not getting along with our handle. We developed our new razor based on feedback and suggestions from our members, and even asked some of them to test it out before it was released. In developing the handle, we designed it to be more contoured, to fit in the hand better - I’m sorry to hear that hasn’t done the trick for you. We would recommend rinsing any gels or creams from your hands and drying them throroughly, before going ahead with your shave.

Into my second week of using the Cornerstone razor, having previously used a Gillette Fusion. The razor itself has a nice weight, but in a similar manner to the Gillette product have to (in effect) shave twice (the second time against the grain) in order to achieve a face as smooth as a baby's behind. Having shaved in a location where the water was soft and in a building with a water softener fitted, I found it near impossible to hold the Cornerstone razor's handle with wet and slightly slippery hands. In those circumstances had to resort to the Gillette Fusion which has serrations and a rubberised type grip to complete the shave. So is it a case of style over substance? I also found that shaving the area under the nose was more difficult with the Cornerstone (Perhaps it will become easier with more practice). I'm not convinced that I received any benefit from using the pre-shave scrub, but the shave gel and after shave balm are OK.I will persist and continue with my Cornerstone, but the jury is out as to whether I will continue or try an alternative competitors product once I have used all of my Cornerstone blades. As a matter of interest has anyone tried the Bearded Colonel razor......their blades look pretty much identical to those supplied by Cornerstone when viewed on the web.....makes me wonder if the manufacturer supplies both companies. I'm so sorry to hear that you are not fully satisfied with the Cornerstone shave Brian. We would definitely recommend rinsing and if possible drying hands before handling the razor - our gel is meant to lubricate the skin so will definitely make the handle more slippery. You will be pleased to know the we have just released our new razor and the handle is slightly more contoured, so hopefully this will reduce this issue for you. The new blades do also feature a trimmer blade at the back for those tricky bits.

The shave made me reasonably happy (or very happy). I received a pack as a present. I have, however, tried twice to set up an account on different machines and both times it just says "There was an error setting up your account". The first time I emailed and they said try again with another browser/delete history etc (which is crap) but it still doesn't work. Can't buy, won't use........

Hi there - thanks for taking the time to leave us some feedback. We're sorry to hear you've had trouble setting up an account. With regards to deleting browser history, this is usually our first suggestion to try in situations like this and it can often resolve the problem - sorry it hasn't been successful in your case! There are a few other reasons this problem could be occurring so I would recommend getting in touch with us at help@cornerstone.co.uk again so that we can investigate this further for you.

The shave gel and face scrub are excellent and great value for money, the aftershave gel not quite so good. The razors are nowhere near as good as the ones I have been using and really need a single detail blade. Tried for 2 weeks but unfortunately don't suit me.

Thanks for the review, Martin - sorry to hear you weren't enamoured with our blades. We're working on improving these and will be adding a trimming blade in the near future so keep your eyes peeled!

I wanted these to be good but unfortunately found them on par with disposables. Started off sharp but went blunt very quickly.

Decidedly average. I did not opt for all the additional oils, creams and gels. I was interested in the actual razor. It's fine. But no cheaper than big brands. Thanks for the freebie. It's OK for back up.

The product when it arrived. What didn't make me happy after a few months is that the holder tarnished, the shape is not as effective as more well known brands and the blades become difficult to fit. I'm going back to over the counter razors

I've used the Cornerstone razor and blades for about six weeks now. In short, they're Ok. The quality of shave is about the same as, well, most razors really, but, when pitched against the Gillette big boys, it's always been a cut-below - no pun intended - because it lacks the extra little trimmer-blade that's always useful when sorting-out above the top lip. In fact, whenever I use the Cornerstone, I've had to dig-out the Gillette to finish-up. Sad really. When you consider it for a moment (presumably if you're the type of person with nothing better to do), given that razors and blades don't have a best-before date, this whole 'Razors in the post' thing is a bit weird and it's more puzzling that I see more companies are now clambering aboard. If the product is amazing and if I'm going to need to shave most days of my life, wouldn't it just be easier to do what Gillette and the retailers are increasingly doing and simply sell you a job-lot of blades for one fixed price? After all, even if you live in a bedsit, razor-blades take up very little space, and even if, at the end of, say, a year, I had ten blades left, well, I'd wait till they ran out and then place a new order. Easy. And a little more eco-friendly. Instead, we get this mail-order thing which may be fine for, say, olive oil or bouquets of flowers (where regularities and types of orders can change and where you often can't viably keep them in storage for very long) but it makes no real sense or logic when it comes to shaving. Does it? Think about it for a moment. It really doesn't. It's weird. I suppose the odd person may get a kick out of saying: "Oh, do you buy your razor blades in Waitrose!?? OMG! How 2015 are you!?? Mail-order is the way forward!" but...well... That horrible tosser Kelvin Mackenzie has been attacking - amongst other things - the Gillette Mafia rather a lot recently in THE SUN, arguing that whilst the blades cost 5p to produce, they're flogging them out at a mark-up of about one million percent and it's utterly unacceptable. Indeed. But here's the puzzling thing: Cornerstone doesn't work out any cheaper. In fact, if you shop around, it's marginally more expensive. According to their site, six "German engineered" blades will set me back £14. But go to Websites like, 'Shavers' and eight Gillete Fusion razors will only cost £18.50 and will give my postman a little less work to do. So...there isn't really any cost-saving at all - perhaps enough to buy a tin of kidney beans or something, but that's it. In any case, the likes of Tesco and Superdrug are increasingly flogging-out 40 packs of blades for pretty-decent sums (as said); they well undercut Cornerstone's prices. So, if you're thinking it's cheaper, it ain't. Really. If you really love saving dollar, shop about and you'll find the Mafia-brands are actually rather cheaper.... If what-turns-you on is their being "German engineered," go buy a razorblade in ALDI (actually rather good) or LIDL (decent too). ....Then there's the fact that Cornerstone take the stress and hassle out of having to reach up onto the shelves of Tesco or Sainsbury's when you're next visiting aisle 9 (Hair and cosmetics) to pick-up a box of blades. I know. It's a nightmare moment no self-respecting bloke ever looks forward to. I've had many a sleepless night over it...reaching up above the KY Jellies and strange lubricants to slowly touch the corner of a Wilkinson's 6 pack, my mouth forming a polo mint-sized O shape as I gasp at the price ("£8.99 for 4...WTF!"). Cornerstone have solved this though: they deliver them straight to your door. Phew. But, of course, I still have to go to Sainsbury's or Tesco every week. I still have to visit aisle 9 for shampoo and Anadin Extras. So - the 'benefit' of having some blades drop through my door isn't very exciting or, well beneficial really. In fact, if anything, it's a bit of a hassle: there may be weeks or months where I do a Rasputin and opt not to shave and so don't need blades through my door. Yeah, yeah, I know I can amend my order with Cornerstone but...If I'm not a member, I don't have to worry about that do I?! Finally. The shave quality. I've used the lot over the years. Wilkinson's, Wilkos (yeah, their own brand), Gillette, Aldi, Lidl, Kwik Save (remember them?) etc. I've even used some really rubbish cheapo disposable jobs from Tesco and thus experienced some godawful shaves. The Cornerstone ones are...well, no better or worse than the standard big-names. In my view. You shave. You feel your face. Occasional bristles still on the skin. You shave again. The feel of the metal handle's rather plush and it's great if you have a tendency to forget your name from time to time as they stamp your initials onto it as a gentle reminder...but...that's all. Those people who appear to be getting their boxer shorts a little damp at the front in their Cornerstone reviews may need to think harder: did it really, truly do something that the Aldi treble, the Wilko blue or the Gillette Mach 3 didn't? Really? Really? I won't be extending my order - if it were a big cost saver or gave me some amazing shave that were making women (and men) fall at my feet, maybe. But, whilst the product is decent, it's no better than many of its competitors and the razors-in-the-mail thing is, well...pointless.

Not a brilliant shave, not as close as some of its competitors; followed by an overly exuberant barrage of emails reminding me of 'extras' available for purchase. If I'd wanted them, I'd have ordered. Not quite the finished article, despite pretty packaging.

I like the approach and the service was good and quick. It would be good to see a little less packaging used if possible, especially where only the razor and/or razor heads are being sent out and not the additional shaving products. The shave itself is ok. It's certainly not as close a a Mach 3 shave, although it is acceptable. This and/or the five-blade configuration, also mean you're less likely to knick yourself when shaving, which is good I guess. Didn't have any problem shaving under my nose as others have suggested. The blades do get clogged with shaved stubble though, which won't budge by simply running them under the tap. I found you often need to run your thumb over the blades (in the direction they are facing of course!) and this pulls out what is stuck. They get clogged every 4-5 strokes I'd say, which also means the razor becomes ineffective that regularly are requires de-clogging. Hopefully the upcoming new razor-head design will improve this.

Hi Stu, Thanks so much for leaving us such a thorough review! I'm really glad that you like the shave, and are excited about the new razor :-) Yeah, our new razor's going to have a more flexible head, better blade spacing, and a trimmer for under your nose for a better smoother shave!
Posted 7 years ago
Generally OK but..... 1. its impossible to shave under the nose 2. the blades get clogged 3. if you bang the blade head on the sink to help unclog it the plastic arm breaks quite quickly -- not the first few time/days but soonish after 4. the plastic arm always breaks in the same place so its either a general design fault or designed to break after a certain amount of time If these things can be resolved it could be a good product - still a bit pricey

Thanks for the review, Robert. We're currently working on a new razor with a more flexible head, better blade spacing and a single trimming blade - hopefully this will address your concerns. If you're having issues with blades breaking please contact help@cornerstone.co.uk

I've been using the razor for a couple of weeks now. I find the design and shaving experience pretty good. However much like other reviewers, I find it difficult to shave under the nose. The other thing is that I've already gone through half of my stock because the plastic around blade seems to break/come off the part holding it to the handle. I have stopped future orders due to this issue and may choose to use Cornerstone again if they have a better product in the future.

Wasn't blown away but I guess we're all different. I found it difficult to get a close shave under the nose, under the chin and around the neck. I also got several cuts from the blade. I find the shape of the plastic that holds the blade prevents it from getting into smaller areas. For £4 the starter deal is worth a try but I doubt I'll be ordering more once my initial lot have run out, I still have patches of stubble on my neck even after about 8 passes with a brand new blade.

Hi JB, thanks so much for the honest review, I'm so sorry that you're not happy with the shave. Just so you know, we really do take members' feedback to heart and use it in all our new developments. You might be pleased to know that, because of other members' feedback, we're working on a new razor with more flexibility in the head, better blade spacing, and a trimming blade at the back for a smoother, more comfortable, and more convenient shave.

While I do believe the value of the product is great and I particularly enjoyed the shaving gel, I will be going back to my original razor. The blades provided a good, comfortable and close shave on the flatter/easier areas. But Due to the size and lack of rear blade, I struggle under the nose and corner of the jaw. I see a new razor design is coming out, maybe that will help address these issues.

They cancelled my subscription with politeness and without fuss. Their shaving system (essentially the blade) can't possibly satisfy everyone and, compared with advanced Gillette and Wilkinson blades, I found their blade, even when brand new, caused nicks and some razor burn. It doesn't have the reverse blade featured on the Gillette Mach blades I've been happy with for years. The Cornerstone blade was blunt and unusable after half a dozen shaves whereas Gillette can go on giving a decent shave for several weeks.

The razor is a good weight, the handle could do with a polish though doesn't look as attractive as the pictures of it...the blades are good, packaging is great but doesn't have to be soo big when I just ordered the razor and no products. Sadly I cant say im happy with getting this..its fine but its not anything overly special..i need to use another razor to do under the nose and sideburn areas as this razor is too big so its not worth the money..im glad I just paid £4 for it, would have been disappointed for full price! I like what you guys are trying to do but its not quite there yet for me...

Razor has a design flaw. It doesn't rotate far enough to permit accurate shaving below the nose. Disappointing as this is kinda a basic requirement.

I just paused my subscription. In principle, I think this is a good idea and the razor handle is very nice - much better than the generic mach 3. I really wanted to like it... However, the most important part of the shaving experience is the razor itself, and this definitely falls short of what I used before (a Gillette Mach 3). Firstly, I have not had so many shaving cuts since I used a cheap disposable when I forgot my razor while on a business trip years ago. Secondly, the blade is too wide to shave narrow, difficult to reach places (just under my nose, for instance). After a couple of shaves with the Cornerstone, I went back to the Mach 3, was a lot more cavalier with my shaving - doing it quickly and violently, and still did not cut myself as much as my careful wet-shave after a hot shower with the Cornerstone. It's not a bad product by any stretch, and the packaging and delivery system and website are all great. But ultimately, if the shaving experience falls short - well why would I use it?
