Aside from the obvious - producing hot and cold water, which is does satisfactorily and I would guess far more economically than boiling water in a kettle and/or cooling it in a fridge - my reason for reviewing is more to point out its shortcomings. 1/ The internal pressure reducing valve in my, lightly used, 2012 Bibo Classic started leaking (from a body joint) after about 2 years requiring replacement. Bibo wanted £20 for the parts. Sorted with an ebay one for a few pounds. 2/ It is a shame the firmware cannot be upgraded as the one 'huge' issue I have with it is that if, say, you fire it up from eco-sleep mode for a glass of nice filtered cool water at 0200 hrs, there is no way to immediately send it back to sleep. As a consequence it wastes energy heating up the hot water tank (and cooling the cold water tank - it does them both) - which won't be used until 4-7 hours later... by which time it will have cooled down/heated up again. Daft for a device supposedly intended to be 'eco-friendly'. Martin Winlow Incidentally, the de-scaler fluid (a type of food-grade acid) can be purchased at about 1/4 of Bibo's price if bought in litre bottles - just search the web for 'coffee machine de-scaler'. That said, you'll have to buy the first cleaning kit from Bibo as you need the special dispenser - the the bottle of de-scaler fluid also supplied in the kit, makes it easy to fill the dispenser in the future with cheaper de-scaler fluid.

Hi Martin, Many thanks for your feedback - We only supply spare parts specified for the BIBO, the pressure regulating valve comes with the correct pressure setting & pipe fittings, every spare part has a 12 month guarantee. A key energy saving feature of the BIBO Classic is the ‘Power ON/OFF’ mode which will switch the BIBO off or on up to three different times throughout the day. If this has to be overridden for an early morning hot drink then the BIBO does have to heat up which takes a few minutes & the similarly chill down for a cold drink. It is possible to turn the BIBO off again via the ‘Power ON/OFF’ menu also if the other energy saving ‘Sleep’ mode has been selected then the BIBO will power down after as little as 1 hour after use. We selected the descaling solution after extensive testing & while it’s very effective at removing mineral deposits from the stainless steel hot tank it doesn’t degrade the plastic parts unlike many other chemicals. We import the fluid from a specialist manufacturer in the US, hence the high cost.

Our BIBO is a delight on daily basis. Our family of 4-6 people use it every day and it makes us all smile. If the kids go elsewhere they are apt to moan of its absence in other peoples kitchens. It makes us smile as it is instant and the water tastes better. The only issues I have with ownership are regarding maintenance. Like many owners I'm sure we could do it more regularly. We have the filters by post scheme so always do that on time but it we should probably do the de-scale a little more often and/or quicker when it starts to leak than we do. We bought descale kit between ourselves and our in-laws who also have a classic machine. The issues are a) that the screw cap has now stripped its plastic thread in the descale water chamber due to this being a weak design and being given a relatively large hex key to encourage it to be over-tightened. This small flaw has just cost me £33. and b) the cost of the BIBO descale fluid at £20 a shot. Like most owners I'm sure that we would be a bit worried about using other than your own fluid for this for fear of it either not working so well or damaging the BIBO, however, proprietary brands retail in the order of £4-6 for a larger bottle. I', sure it can't be much different stuff, it only has one active ingredient, an acid. Come on BIBO! shop ripping us off for de-scale fluid or tell us which other brands would suffice so that we can buy elsewhere. Many Thanks for Reading

Hi Robin, So glad to hear your BIBO makes you smile and all the family are enjoying its benefits! :) The BIBO de-scale solution is formulated & packed specifically for use in the BIBO Classic & Bar hot tanks, it's based on a proven de-scaler liquid made by a high quality producer in the USA and was chosen after extensive testing. It’s a Citric and Sulphamic acid blend, nothing similar that can be bought locally or replicated by buying a sulphamic crystal or powder and mixing it at home. The packaging & postage alone accounts for nearly £8.00 of the total cost. As the amount of solution we sell is growing we are working with our supplier to reduce the cost and of course any savings will be passed on to our customers and we do now provide two bottle of solutions for £19.99 which covers you for a full year. If you have any issues with the descale cartridge again then please do give us a call and we can get a replacement sent out to you.

Had our Bibo classic just over 3 years now, and it has always performed flawlessly up until a few weeks ago, when we started to have problems with the hot water tank tripping out. A phone call to Bibo, had me in touch with their tech department, where I found a very helpful and polite Alex, who explained to me how to reset the trip for the hot water tank, all was good for a couple of weeks and it has just started doing it again, so another phone call to Alex, and he is sending out some parts for me to change (engineer visit was offered) but I am confident enough to do myself, so fingers crossed this will solve the problem and we will all be happy again.

I was disappointed to find that there was still a lot of lime in the water so that steamer pans etc still get limescale on them and that I have to descale the tank. Other than that the water does taste good.

The BIBO is great. My only 'complaint' is the high cost of some of the maintenance products ... £17 for a small bottle of descaling fluid for a single use is outrageous!

i was very pleased with my BIBO at first but have been a bit less pleased as time4 as gone by i.e the price offilters is rather high for pensioners and since receiving a kit to stop a water leak (which by the way i found rather complicated and am having to wait for my son to sort out for me) i have found it impossible to move the machine as it seems to be bolted or fixed in some way. Unfortunately it seems i am going to be forced to part with my BIBO SINCERLY J,J,Newman

Hi Mr Newman, thanks for your feedback. It's good to hear you have been pleased with your BIBO! I am sorry you have found the cleaning process complicated, we do have full instructions with the kit and you can give us a call if you or your son have any problems. The machine isn't bolted or fixed to the work top but will be heavy as the tanks will be full of water. If you need any help or advice with this then please do get in touch!

The Bibo machine itself is brilliant, one of the best purchases we have ever made and we couldn't now be without it. However the cost of the cleaning solutions is ridiculous. You get one small bottle of solution and a pack of litmus paper strips for £20. A comparable descaling solution is only a few pounds in most supermarkets so why is this one so expensive? After a bit of research I discovered the solution is Sulphamic Acid and this can be bought in powder form on the internet and mixed with water at home. A 5kg tub will make up 50 litres of solution and costs £24.59. Compare that to the Bibo solution at £19.99 for 200ml!! That's 250 bottles against 1 for only £5 more. I know I am being pedantic and most people wouldn't bother with making it themselves but the above does show the price is way over the top.

Love having the Bibo, could be a bit quieter and has running costs for filters and lime scale treatment but the pros outweigh the cons.

Does what you expect instant hot or cold that's it really, does not filter out limescale so needs to be descaled regularly ,descale refill could do with being a lot cheaper

Love the availability of constant hot & cold water, however we have had three faults with our machine, currently awaiting the third engineer visit in about three years, they do attend very promptly but I am glad I took out the extended warranty.

Hi Roland, sorry to hear you have had some bad luck with your BIBO. Glad we could get it all back up and running on our visit to you.

We have owned our Bibo for approx. 5 years now & would to be honest lost without it. Unfortunately the quality of drinking water in the UK is generally poor so have clean & nice tasting water on tap is great. Over the years we have also found the customer back up excellent. My only criticism I can think of is the cost of the replacement filters & UV,s

Hi Derek, really glad to hear you love your BIBO! Sorry to hear you feel the replacement filters are expensive. We try to keep the cost down as much as possible and the filters work out at just 20p per day!

I'm not quite sure the BiBo you supplied was new. It came with the fitting kit missing and the water tastes as if the filter needs changing. Compared to my previous filter which was cold only it is not as good. The first time I used the cold outlet it had quite a musty taste.. I bought the BiBo because I wanted a plumbed hot water supply. I previously used a one-cup dispenser. Both myself (physical) and my wife (dementia) are severely disabled and a kettle is dangerous as my wife regularly left the lid insecure. I am disappointed the output is so small. We use large cups and the output needs either the output button pressing twice or holding down until the water flows. In both cases we have to stop the water flow when the cup is full. Often we finish with half a cup of hot water and the top-up is cold or we stop the water too early/too late. Having said the above we still like the machine! It is very close to what we were looking for when we bought it and not having to fill it physically is a bonus. I would not hesitate in recommending the machine to others. Brian Markin.

Hi Brian, thank you for your feedback. I can assure you, all the BIBO's we send out are new. Sometimes the water taste can take a short while to settle down when the machine is new as water has not passed through the components before. We do have our BIBO Classic which offers a higher output. You can also set a measured quantity with the Classic which sounds like it could be useful to you. I will get in touch with you regarding this. Best regards.
