This could be an expensive item of jewellery, a property that is thatched or a home that is undergoing renovation works.

Stanhope provides customers with highly personalised insurance products that their specific and specialist circumstances require. We will insure valuable items of jewellery whilst you are living away from home because your house, which has subsidence (which we are also insuring), is undergoing renovation works!

“Insured my watch through Stanhope. Sent in a proof of valuation. Was emailed back that everything was fine and to simply press the buy button on website. Policy was set up, online portal was set up and money taken from my account. Checked the policy paperwork and noticed it had firstly the wrong insurance start date so got in contact with Stanhope and a new policy was issued with correct date. Then saw that my watch valuation price was wrong on policy paperwork so contacted them again at midday on a Friday and was told by customer service that it would be rectified and another new policy would be issued within the hour and I would be sent an email confirming. No response four hours later so phoned and was told my proof of valuation wasn't accepted even though my policy had been set up and money taken from my account. Basically, if I hadn't phoned them then I would have been none the wiser that my watch was not insured if something happened to it. Currently waiting for my refund back into my bank account. Was told this should happen after the weekend on Monday. IF you use Stanhope please make sure to check all paperwork with scrutiny as you may be in for a very unpleasant surprise should you need to claim. Total lack of incompetence within the customer service team which surprised me as they were very professional before payment was made for the policy. I would advise to seek an insurance broker elsewhere.”

Mark, we'd rather have your one star review than your business. We will not tolerate any vulgar language to our staff and simply put, you're not a client for Stanhope. Please do not get upset with Stanhope because of your inability to read the terms of a contract prior to entering into it. As a reminder, you're the one who puts in the desired start date, desired value of item to be insured and who confirms they've read and accepted the terms of the policy before entering into the contract. Finally, you wouldn't have been covered since you didn't read the terms and hoped a non-approved valuation for your watch would be sufficient. Matthew Ashton Director Stanhope
