had been waiting for two weeks for a withdrawal to be deposited into my bank account. Although the company insisted that the transaction had been completed on their end, my bank confirmed that no deposit had been received, attempted, or rejected. After a thorough investigation conducted by both my bank's fraud department and UNIQUE RECOVERY FIRM it was determined that there was no trace of the transaction. Fortunately, following the investigation, I was able to recover my funds successfully."

Requested paper documents as it states once you have purchased your policy if you do require them to request them. Got told they do not send them as it is not secure. Eventually someone said they would. Been over a week nothing yet. Cancelling. If they cannot send a policy out then I have no faith should I need to claim through them.

Not professional at all. They don’t read the information they provide to you and you may as well not have a broker at all. All they do is a cheap cut and paste and they are completely inflexible on their commissions. They were recommended to me by my contractor, but I would never use them again for my further insurance needs.

Felt tricked into buying the insurance. Apparently impossible to log into client portal to try and cancel policy. Wouldn't recommend.

Shaun, thank you for the feedback however we're confused. Before buying a policy online you need to: (1) select the right product and click 'buy now', (2) input card details, (3) click 'pay now', (4) read a pop-up text with important information, (5) click 'agree and pay', and (5) complete online two-factor authentication. I am not sure the process could be made any clearer but if you think we can, please offer constructive feedback accordingly. Finally, at the end of the buying process, we make it clear that mid-term adjustments must be completed via email, portal, or telephone. Matthew Ashton Director

Hi Shannon, thanks for coming back to us with honest feedback on your experience. In all honesty, we only launched the online quote and buy comparison site, including complementary portal access, in February 2025. As such, we're quickly learning a lot of lessons and fixing bugs as we go. That said, we've looked into your case specifically and noticed this issue might be sitting with your email provider and not us. Perhaps this is being too honest but from the looks of it, your account is not being set up since you're not receiving our email(s), which could be due to several reasons, namely: (1) The destination email server is offline or unreachable, (2) The server won't accept delivery of the message, or (2) A network problem is causing message delivery to time out. We understand this matter was resolved, and your documents were sent to you by another method, on the day this review was received but we wanted to formally respond on here today.

I took out a house insurance policy with Stanhope Insurance Brokers, and they placed the policy with Pen. A couple of months into the policy, I found that it was no longer required and therefore cancelled the policy. I was told I would receive a refund of £2355 as I had paid the full annual premium. It has taken Stanhope and Pen Insurance just under two months to refund the money. They are quick to take your money, but clearly hold on to any monies owed to customers for as long as possible. I have never known any kind of refund take nearly two months, especially this amount! This abnormal refund policy should be made very clear at outset, as it is not a normal refund practice.

Hi Jo, Thanks for letting us know about the delayed refund. You are right, some of our refund practices are antiquated. I was provided with a written quote for insuring an unoccupied property, which was valid for 30 days. Just before departing on holiday (about a week before the policy commencement date) I phoned to purchase the policy. However, due to an error by Stanhope, the policy they had quoted me for was not available and so they then offered me alternative policy which was £200 more expensive. As I was about to go on holiday I did not have the time to shop around for a more competitive quote and so had to accept the new, more expensive policy. As a token of goodwill they cancelled their admin fee but I am still seriously out of pocket.

We've had the chance to look into this file, and you've rightly given us a 1-star review. Here's an explanation of what happened: (1) We offered your insurance renewal with one option but needed to update the statement of fact due to a change in circumstances. (2) When updating the statement of fact, we put in the incorrect quotation date, which meant a product no longer available on the market quoted at a much lower rate. (3) We noticed this error and amended the quotation date, rendering the previous option redundant. As you rightly point out, the next available option was higher in cost. We are so sorry for our error; this is entirely on us. As you rightly point out, we picked up our fees, but we appreciate that this only partially absorbed the additional cost. Previously we dealt with Danielle. She is on mat leave and her colleague dealt with us this time. It was incredibly transactional. Literally just wanted our money, no niceties. Not what I’m used too. Bit put off using you in the future when I pay £50 admin fee and that’s what I get

Advisor left and while contact was made to assist renewal this was only after I reached out. Eventually we renewed when my wife contacted supplier direct (it was quicker) and negotiated a renewal discount.

Just got told by this company that my quote was declined. I am a 49 year old gas technition with a perfect 999 experian and 1000 clear score rating and no history of claims. I have been discriminated as woking a a gas installer. My son who is also 25 years of age and has a Masters degree in physics has also been declined because he is under 30. Absolute joke and a waste of time

Stanhope only gave me 4 days in which to consider their renewal notice. Their recommended insurer had raised my premium by 22% and was 60% more expensive than the alternative quote which another broker found for me, with equivalent cover.

Mrs Court, yes, we have recently struggled with getting some insurance renewals out on time. Particularly with a couple of difficult insurance products we have on our panel. That said, it is 100% our responsibility to ensure you have enough time to make an informed decision at renewal stage. Whilst it offers no immediate consolation to you, we have made every effort to consolidate our insurance panel to ensure greater controls are in place. We're grateful for your honest review, despite being disappointed to have put you in this position in the first place.

Thank you for leaving your honest review Alan. Our Operations Coach Emily has just spoken to you on the phone regarding your renewal and the reason why the premium has increased. At Stanhope, our values are important to us and the insurer we had placed you with before didn't line up with them which is why we made the decision to cease trading with them. This lead to a higher renewal premium with an insurer that truly reflects our values and therefore would be a better insurer to place you with. We are sorry you chose not to renew with us this year, but we trust you understand the reasons why.

Very poor service. Didn’t Send any documents. No phone number to call agent who I originally spoke to . I know we are in strange times but you were quick enough to take my money with no follow up call /email to see if everything was in order! Good job I never needed to make a claim !! I emailed but had no reply, did no one working from home keep their eye on a business email. Wouldn’t recommend.
