“Wanted some gold balls in the lights I ordered, but didn't see that colour available so chose a cream instead - was this because of lack of stock leading up to Christmas or don't you do a gold ball? Thanks, Mrs Gray”

It does entail putting the balls on the cable oneself but this can also allow customers to change the arrangement of colours as they wish. “Would be great to just be able to buy fuse bulbs on their own. They frequently blow but because you only do mixed packs I'm collecting a bunch of ordinary bulbs that I've never used. Also expensive to buy with postage as well. The postage is quite expensive for such a small item. Makes me sad.”

“Delivery was quick and packaging was pretty (which is nice as I bought the lights as a gift). I bought the ‘choose your own colours’ lights and didn’t realise the light string wouldn’t be pre-assembled, but it’s actually quite good as the gift recipient can arrange them how she likes.”

“Had to put the lights on the string myself by cutting them. This was fiddly and balls only loosely attached. Only two replacement bulbs given and one of the lights was already out so only have one spare now. These are very hard to find as no longer legal in the UK”

Dear Kate, Thank you for your post. I am sorry you had to cut the cotton balls yourself. There is a split next to the hole on each ball which only appears if you press down on the top of the ball next to the hole. You can then slide the bulb into the split and towards the hole where it should sit snug and secure. Certainly the balls should not fall off the cable if properly attached. The bulbs that we provide are still legal in the UK - if you would like some more please email me at hello@cableandcotton.com and I will help you as you should have received more than 2 spare bulbs when you got the cable. “The fact that you despatched my order of Fairy Lights without the mains plug that I had also ordered and without any word of explanation. The fact that I had to chase you for the mains plug and the fact that by the time you shipped the mains plug I had no way of forwarding it to the recipient of the gift in time for Xmas. So Xmas fairy lights without any way of turning them on. Not good.”

“I’ve just bought my second set of lights as a gift- I love the ones I bought for our study 3 years ago. A few could do with replacement but generally they’ve been surprisingly resilient for shades made of cotton! Delivery was quick and product exactly as described.”
