I have had excellent service with Srivens for many years, however, I have recently moved to Scotland and when my new optician phoned scrivens to ask about my history, they refused point blank to give any information, saying it wasn’t possible due to patient confidentiality, even though I gave my verbal permission over the phone! They were going to send me the information in a letter to my new address, unsurprisingly it never materialised. Very disappointed, will not use or recommend scrivens again.

Really bad at keeping appointments! Went in for my eye test and didn’t have me on the system so had to rearrange for the next week! Not happy having to rearrange my already busy schedule!

My 90 year old father tried to get appointment for new hearing aid, was told he needed to provide some information which we then passed on via a phonecall. We were promised a call back but nobody bothered. Extremely bad service especially for someone elderly...and most probably the ones most in need of the service. Would not recommend or try to use again.

The hearing aids I was fitted with are too uncomfortable to wear. The hinge to open the battery is very sharp and sticks into the back of my ears. Unbearable after short time. Ridiculously poor design. Told no others available.

I purchased two hearing aids from the Enfield branch of Scrivens at a cost of over £3,000 and 4 months before the end of the warranty period, I brought them in for some minor adjustments. When I returned home, I could not get the aids to work on their loop setting. This was August 2017 and since then I have not had the use of them for four months because I have been in dispute with Scrivens as to whether or not the loop setting is working. The aids have been back to the manufacturers twice who say that the setting is working. After the aids came back from the manufacturer the first time, I had them tested by an independent organization for the deaf, who produced a report to say that the aids were not working on the loop. I have been shocked by the indifference shown by both branch and central (Birmingham-based) staff of Scrivens to my problem. Even if the aids were working properly all along, surely they should have been concerned that they were not working for the customer? They have no provision in the Enfield branch for checking the loop system (even a simple landline telephone would do!) and during my last conversation with the Enfield branch, I had the telephone put down on me while I was asking that they should obtain a loop tester to demonstrate to me that the aids were working. In my view, the branch needs testing equipment if it is to sell such expensive products and certain members of branch and central staff have a totally wrong concept of ‘customer care’.

I booked an appointment for my 86 year old mum who had just come out of hospital, on the way to the appointment a road was closed so we had to go the long way around, we got to the appointment at 9.10 am (10 minutes late), I told my mum to go in while I parked the car. After parking the car my mum was standing outside the shop? I asked her what happened? She was greeted with 'YOUR LATE', she was not allowed to given an explanation and was told to attended the Scrivens nearer where she lives! lets just say we went to Tesco's and received excellent service - THANK YOUR SO MY TESCO.

My hearing in my left ear is better than my right. But my aids were synchronised the same. So I was only wearing the right one. As I wore it more the little wire kept coming out of my ear, so I phoned and the lady told me, if it was a problem then I should cut it off. Which I did, then the whole aid kept coming out. I was later informed that this balances the aid, so I phone 0800 027 4487. The lady didn't want to bother with me when I explained, so I asked if I could make an appointment regarding my query and cleaning them, which I was worried about, but was told that there wasn't any appointments available. I know they were Nhs aids for free, but it would be nice to have a decent service and receptionist on the end of the phone. She kept huffing as though I was being a pain!

Wrong glasses ordered and items were not checked. Very poor customer service even to long serving customers. Branches sometimes closed down because of staff illness even on Fridays. Used to be a reputable business

My optician was unpleasant and a bit rude. She refused to believe the dates I gave for my previous eye test and contact lens appointments. She might have checked your records more thouroughly. It is important to have a good rapport with and confidence in the person you are trusting with your sight. I won't be back.

I have high myopic eyes; the test was throughout and I had a change in my prescription, also I wanted new glasses. Made it very clear that I want Zeiss 1.74 for my -9 both eyes. I was disappointed in trying Spectsavers own lens and just wanted to go back to my Zeiss lens. Ends up that I paid £282 just for Scrivens similar lens and 99 for frame. Found out only because I asked for the Zeiss warranty for coating and I looked for the Z that is engraved on special Zeiss lens. The manager offered to change it for same price, after she made it clear that they don't usually order from Zeiss and she is doing me a favor for not asking a bigger price. I'm confused and feeling cheated.

Very poor customer service, poor quality of work. The optician was efficient and professional. but the reception/ front staff was very rude. Despite having the glasses redone twice, the final product was still unsatisfactory and not what was sold to me. Unfortunately I had paid the full price up front and now have to await a refund. I will certainly not be going back there nor will my family or friends. The head store person seemed very annoyed that I said that there was a problem with the glasses. This is Royston, Herts Branch of Scrivens
