“I travelled to New Zealand on the Kiwi Discovery Pass. Helpful advisors, and a good company for a first time solo traveller. They are often acting on behalf of other companies which actually run the programme in the country you're travelling to, but they have all the information you need. Luckily I didn't need any overseas support once I was there so can't comment on that. Could have had better communication from flights department following booking regarding whether my flights were insured, but they did sort out an issue I had with the airline rearranging my flights (my connection was suddenly sue to take off four hours before I even got there!) really efficiently. Good price on flights! Overall, I was very happy and would recommend to first time travellers.”
“The team at Gap 360 were very helpful when it came to booking my trip for a 2 week elephant volunteering project in Thailand, answering every question I had and being a good support network.
As I have a medical condition I was asked to get my doctor to complete a medical form, this part was fine, however, when I got to Thailand no one in the team asked about the condition or touch base on the subject. I feeling this is a important matter as I was unsure as to if they had been told and if you knew how to deal with it if anything was to happen concerning it.
Another point I would like to bring up is the price of the experience. When comparing with other members within my group it was clear I had paid way too much for the same thing, some were even taking part in the project for a longer amount of time and was still cheaper. I'm not sure if there were extra charges for something I was not informed of or if there is a very high commission for gap 360 to book the experience. Either way I am very unlikely to book with gap 360 unless a very good deal is on offer purely because of value for money.
In terms of positive elements to the experience, the programme was well laid out with a good mixture of activities to do when we were at the elephant village, such as feeding, bathing and walking the elephant, planting and harvesting the elephants food, cooking for a local school, going to local market, finding out about elephant poo paper and the elephant graveyard. However at the weekends which was our 'free time' a better selection/suggestions of things to do would be helpful for those who have never been there, like myself.
Personally I would like to thank Worn, Ing and Wi from the project, that would not only help during the project but also in their free/personal time, arranging travel such as tuc tucs, additional accommodation where needed and being a good support network for those feeling homesick.”
