“Drained the tank, added fresh fuel, cleared the lines. Seemed a very simple job. Took less than 20 minutes. So how come it's ridiculously expensive?”

“Tony was his usual competent, efficient & friendly self. This was the second time we had met. The first was on the Shetlands where i had put Adblue into my diesel campervan tank. They promptly sent him up on the overnight ferry from Aberdeen. And i was good to go. No problem, minus £3500. And we hoped we’d not have to see each other again! In the latest episode, i had put a lot of petrol into my near empty diesel tank. Not good for me having repeated a similar mistake. This time Tony came up to Grantown-on-Spey from Aberdeen and finished the job in an hour. Significantly less distance and time than the Shetland trip. Cost, nearly £1600. Ouch! I should have taken shares out in Fuel Fixers. Its my own fault. As a retiree I couldnt afford to pay either occasion, but i managed. The campervan is my full-time home and biggest asset, other than my good health. I could not afford to NOT get the right people to do the job. For me that is not an option. I need to look after the van and ensure its reliability. Tony doesn't set the charge rates, but i wonder if Fuel Fixers sets its rates on the basis of business clients for whom vehicle or machinery down-time costs them money. Unlike domestic recreational vehicle owners like myself for whom vehicles do not generate any income, and the Fuel Fixers costs are therefore disproportionately higher for them. Im not sure whether this is what Fuel Fixers consciously intends? Or whether there is a case for some form of stepped or sliding cost scale? I understand that ‘a job is a job’ regardless of who it is for, and that Fuel Fixers are not running a charity. But i wonder if the original business plan for setting up Fuel Fixers didnt envisage the recreational vehicle market in its cost structure and strategic marketing and profit outcomes. This comment is not intended as criticism. Rather as heart-felt constructive feedback from someone who was unfortunate enough to do the ‘same’ thing twice within a matter of months and is £5000 lighter and still paying it off. “It is a very expensive evolution (£600) to get a Fuel Fixer to northern Argyll from Stirling because of the travel time and to do a 30-40 minute task but there was no other option. Even so, I was pleased withe the outcome and the car is now running well.”

“Put a small amount of Adblue in my Diesel tank. Knew it wasn’t worth risking anything. Made sure I didn’t start the engine. Breakdown cover wouldn’t help me, so decided to use Fuel Fixer. Great call centre. Fast despatch and friendly and helpful mechanic. Would recommend! Was more expensive than I was expecting, but mechanic was on-site for over 2hrs and I could see was very thorough. Many thanks”
