About Friars.co.uk:

It all started back in 1927 when William Long had the fabulous idea of opening a luxury chocolate shop in the picturesque town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District. He probably never dreamed it would still be in the same family nearly 100 years later.

In those early days the shop only opened during the summer months and it is believed William chose to winter in the Madeira sunshine. As you would expect the business has evolved in many ways since then, however certain principles remain since those early days.

Innovation – We were the first to make a prosecco truffle and then shortly after we followed with our fabulous gin truffle. More recently; although Easter eggs are synonymous with Easter, we decided to move away from the main stream and invented our famous hot cross bun truffle.

But all this only scratches the surface; we are also one of the first chocolate makers to start transitioning to 100% biodegrade packagingM as well as pioneering vegan milk and white chocolate...among other things.

Quality – Any new chocolate must meet certain requirements to get past our strict tasting panel. If one of the panel gives a score below 9/10 then we simply won’t offer the chocolate to our customers.

Longevity – We are immensely proud of our historic routes and in this fast moving, ever changing world, we take pride in our tradition and heritage. Our rose and violet creams are the same ones that William sold on that first day of opening, back in 1927. We have survived and prospered over the last 90 years and with the launch of our Ambleside store and an online service, we fully intend to be around for the next 100 years.

After all life is too short, so why settle for ordinary chocolate?

Expensive chocolates beautifully presented but not sure they are value for money also postage adds on additional expense when weight of package does not justify the high postage charge

Signature Chocolates selection. I enjoyed the truffle part of this selection,particularly the Irish cream truffle.The rest i found rather boring in taste, particularly the Florentine and Sticky toffee pudding.Rather overpriced, and found the chocolate to be somewhat "stale" in taste. Probably would only order the Truffle selections again,if i can afford to.This selection could do with updating to make the chocolates better tasting.

Chocolates were brought for gifts but had very short dates on them (1 Month) Not as fresh as normal.

It was fairly obvious that this was going as a gift as the delivery and billing address were both different with different names and yet I had to actually message the person it was going to (an elderly family member) to let them know it was from me. I think they enjoyed them but it came in a huge box for such a small item and I think there was a lot of confusion and disappointment. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone looking to purchase as a gift but if buying for yourself definitely!

I didn't feel that I was buying something special because, at first sight, the box looked lightweight and cheap. It didn't have the 'look' I would like to have seen when spending over £1 on every chocolate. That is one star taken off, the other was the chocolates, yes they are nice but not very nice or good, just chocolate, although I presume of good quality, but are they really worth over £1 each? That was why I took off another star.

These chocolates were given as a special present to my wife. The chocolate is not fresh, she tells me. Is this from stock left over from Christmas? I am very sorry to have to complain like this as we have always found Friars to be excellent in the past.

I ordered 4 boxes of macaroons for next day delivery which arrived perfectly. They were gifts for FOUR separate people and the boxes looked beautiful. I would give 5 stars for this. I added a small message to each however on receiving them today there was only 1 card in the delivery. Apparently only 1 card is included PER order! Why would I give the message card to ONE person? My order clearly stated it was for speedster people. Therefore if I had ordered 4 separate boxes @ £5.50 each and then paid a delivery charge for each one I could have had a small gift message for each one. Whilst this may seem a minor detail and I can fully respect the time and cost to your company this diminished MY first shopping experience with you.

My family were gifted a box of Christmas chocolates from Friar's. I thought they were delicious, so I bought some more (different boxes) but I was disappointed with the taste of many of them: they were quite sickly and I only liked a few of them: the honey crunch, praline milk and I think the dark choc coffee ones. Not sure how much this can be helped but they got a bit messed up in transit, and there were little bits of chocolate all over the boxes & on the outsides of the packaging.

A little disappointed as the Mo n Cheri chocolates were advertised as expiring in June 2023 but were only dated March 2023. this meant that some of the chocolates could not be eaten in time as they were a gift. It also means that we are wary about ordering anymore if the dates shown are not the dates sent.

I cannot review the products as I live in France and your company does not deliver to France. Furthermore it was difficult setting up an account and payment as your company does not accept customers outside the UK or credit cards from banks outside the Uk. It is a problem.

The purchases - chocolates & wine plus Turkish delight - were a gift which were very well received and with the Turkish delight being declared "the best I have ever had". However, it was very disappointing that, despite me putting a gift message on both purchases, neither had any with them when they were delivered.

They were a gift and recipient said they were divine. Reduced stars as I paid for quicker postage and they took ages to arrive ( I know at Christmas couriers were stretched due to Royal Mail strike .
