We have been crafting fine chocolates in Dorset since 2002 with origin chocolate & local, seasonal ingredients (& no additives, preservatives or added sugar), so they are truly handmade, handpacked & delivered fresh.

“For me the flavours of the fillings were not strong enough. The best flavours were the fruit ones. I was disappointed by the gin ones.”

“Very prompt and excellent customer service. Chocolate was very tasty and much appreciated by its recipient. Nicely presented and good selection. Unfortunately they did send the wrong chocolate bar type (milk instead of honeycomb) and my order got lost in the system so almost wasn't sent, but I was very satisfied with the resolution. Staff very friendly and appreciate it's a small team! Would also recommend changing the divider inside the box to be lower so that it's easier to get the chocolates out. Took a bit of dismantling to get to them!!”

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your custom & for taking the time to send us your feedback - we are delighted to hear that you thought the fillings were lovely but are a bit confused by your comment that the chocolate tastes cheap as we can assure you it is anything but! Further, many of the fillings are ganache-based which means they are made with the same single origin chocolate as their shells. We only work with chocolate made from fine cocoa beans sourced from Venezuela, Madagascar or Colombia which is higher in cocoa solids than cheap chocolate & consequently lower in sugar. “The chocolates were presented nicely and packaged well so that they arrived in perfect condition. Some of them were amazing (especially their alcoholic ones which didn’t taste too strong but definitely a hint of alcohol) and others good - not sure that they were worth the price paid (£25 + £5 delivery). I wanted to support a small business rather than the big companies like hotel chocolat, but it was more expensive. I found the chocolate menu card wasn’t the easiest to use as some chocolates looked very similar.”

Dear Lucy, Thank you for your support of a small artisan business and for taking the time to send us your review. We are delighted to hear that you were impressed by most of the chocolates and yes we are bit more expensive than the likes of Hotel Chocolat (but not much). Our large box is £24 and we also offer a cheaper postage rate of £3.95 just to clarify that. Our prices are actually very good value given the quality of the fine single origin chocolate we work with, the local ingredients we source and that we make all our chocolates fresh in small batches & completely by hand - we make the fillings & the moulds, we pipe, dip & roll the truffles by hand (most chocolate companies buy in ready-made hollow balls to fill with a filling) and we decorate each chocolate by hand. They are then all packed into their boxes by hand. To be honest, there is no comparison in terms of the amount of work that goes into making our chocolates to say Hotel Chocolat's mass produced offerings! We are sorry to hear that you found some of the chocolates difficult to identify on the menu - this is an ongoing challenge for us as we do decorate them by hand, so they can sometimes vary slightly to the picture, but we are always trying to ensure that they are as close as possible and review this regularly. We created a single menu for our Valentine chocolates which included the additional flavours that were in the large box. We did list the flavours that would be in the medium box on its page on the website but will bear it in mind that perhaps for the future, we need a different menu for the medium box to the large box. “Chocolates are fantastic but getting them out of the box is frustratingly difficult. Why should we need to be advised to remove a divider to get the chocolates out? And then have the hassle of trying to put the divider back in again to keep the remaining chocolates in place! Sorry for the price charged the box needs redesigning-in fact for any price you charge you need a better box. This existing box issue would put me off ordering again.”

Dear Bob, Many thanks for your custom and for taking the time to send us your review. We are delighted to hear that you thought our chocolates were fantastic but are sorry to hear that you struggled so much with the grids. We use our cardboard grid system to ensure that the chocolates travel to their destination in perfect condition, whatever they go through in transit, as it keeps each chocolate separate in its square. Further, the grids are plastic-free which is really important to us - most chocolates are sold in boxes with plastic trays inside which is something we wanted to avoid, so we have been using our cardboard grid format since we launched Chococo back in 2002. We advise lifting out the grids to help extract the chocolates, but don't expect anyone to want to put the grids back in again after as we would hope that you would be able to keep the box flat once you are starting to enjoy them. “Chocolates amazing! But the packaging is plastered with the branding, it is therefore impossible to buy as a present for someone in your household. We had Valentines day 3 days early as a result. Sort the packaging to be incognito/plain and you have a 5 star product!”

“Beautifully presented, and it was great to try am new, independent company. Some of the chocolates were wonderful, bit there were quite a few that we weren't keen on. We found the 'map', although cleverly drawn, frustrating as it wasn't a good match for many of the chocolates. Overall, it was great to try this company, but it didn't win us over.”

“I ordered two small boxes as presents only one arrived. I would not have known this if I hadn’t checked with my son.He would not have known I had ordered two boxes for them I phoned and the missing box was immediately posted so they received the correct order. If I had not asked if the gift had arrived I would not have know one box was missing.”

“The chocolate drink is lovely (as my Mrs says) - chocolate isn't really my thing. I ordered some pouches before the Christmas deadline but nothing arrived until well into the New Year. I'm sure we will buy more but expectations were higher.”

“Beautiful looking chocolates but exhausting trying to figure out and match the chocolates to the flavour guide, it spoilt what should have been a treat . Interesting flavours though and they look great for gifts. Wouldn't buy them again myself.”

Dear Sally, Many thanks for your custom and for taking the time to send us your review. We are delighted to hear that you approved of our service and the quality of chocolates but are sorry you were disappointed with the size of them. We feel that we offer a variety of different formats, from classic truffles which can be quite large to domed chocolates and French-style enrobed chocolates, so yes there are different sizes within the selection as they are made using different techniques. I think our chocolates are actually slightly larger than many of our premium competitors and we have actually been criticised occasionally by judges at the Academy of Chocolate awards for our chocolates being on the large side! I would hope that our photos make it clear as to their sizes as we often also include props such as greenery, pine cones or ingredients, such as nuts, citrus fruit or herbs, to also help give a sense of the size of the chocolates. However, given your comments, we will work extra hard to ensure that we make it as clear as possible in any future photography. “The chocolate and filling taste fine. However the accompanying leaflet contains pictures of possible content and it is unclear which are included in the pack received. It is also almost impossible to locate individual chocs in the box and relate them to descriptions that are too small to read easily.”

“I paid extra for a nominated delivery day but the chocolates came on a different (earlier) day. Luckily this didn't matter in the end but I did pay for a specific service. Also the chocolates whilst looking beautiful were quite dry in the main.”

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback - the preferred delivery day option was actually the same price as first class delivery and wasn't a guaranteed service, as we state on our site, but if you would like to email us at info@chococo.co.uk we can refund you the £1 difference vs standard delivery. We are relieved to hear that they arrived slightly earlier if anything as Royal Mail really struggled to cope before Christmas given the huge extra demand they were dealing with and social distancing at the same time. We note your comments about the chocolates being dry and will add that to our review this week but hope that you found a mix of both solid and soft centred chocolates to enjoy.
