My fault I think ordering the wrong chocs as there is too much granache and not enough basic dark choc for my wife’s taste....ah well!

I ordered the giant salted caramel egg as a gift for my husband. I took it out to check it on arrival and there is a big hole in the egg. Obviously it got damaged on the journey. Disappointing given the cost.

Dear Dee, We are very sorry to read that your egg was damaged in transit but we can sort it out with a replacement! All you had to do was call or email us to let us know, but I have informed Katharine our customer care manager now, so look out for an email from her to follow up with you. All our eggs leave us in perfect condition but we cannot control how carefully they are handled in transit, however well we wrap them. I bought the small egg with dinosaur pieces and the large egg with dinosaur pieces. The small egg was fine but the large egg arrived completely smashed to bits. It was a present for my husband so that was a bit sad, but we managed to piece it back together with chocolate and that was a fun activity. However, on balance I wouldn't buy an egg from here again as there's too much risk with them being smashed. I appreciate them being plastic free, that was a positive from the brand itself, but perhaps a cardboard holder for the egg might be needed. The eggs were well wrapped though, can't fault the packaging. Perhaps the dinosaurs stuck inside the egg somehow damage the structural integrity?

Dear Catherine, We are sorry to hear that the giant egg was broken but we are also a bit confused as to why you didn't contact us to let us know, as we can fix the problem and send a replacement out for you! I have alerted Katharine our Customer Care Manager, so look out for an email from her to follow up with you directly. We are confident that our plastic-free packaging is strong enough for our eggs as we conducted postal tests before launch and since then have posted c5,000 eggs so far and have only had a TINY number of damaged ones. Whilst they leave us in perfect condition, we have no control over how well they are handled in transit and at the end of the day, an egg is an inherently fragile item, so this can happen. We are a small business but are here ready to talk to our customers if they have any problems and encourage all our customers to contact us directly on info@chococo.co.uk in all our confirmation emails and website. Chocolates came on time, box was pleasing to the eye in design, although I expected the medium sized box to be a bit bigger. Chocolates were average and a bit on the small side in my opinion but I loved the rhubarb and vanilla one.

Well first order was a bit of an issue as the stated delivery date was missed. However Chococo went the extra mile to sort sending a second box and refund of postage. Good customer service. I will use again.

I was a bit surprised at the large box, was looking for something sumptuous and special (luxury). This was to share with my wife. I felt a bit disappointed, they were incredibly small and although I like dark chocolate my wife does not so there was alot of dark chocolate. It was a mixed bag, some tasty some ok. Was looking forward to them so had high expectation. I do not really rate hotel chocolate because the chocolate is a bit waxy and bland, and although yours was better, it's not the full flavour I was looking for. Sorry, this is not a bad review but just on a hunt for incredible tasting chocolate.

For me the flavours of the fillings were not strong enough. The best flavours were the fruit ones. I was disappointed by the gin ones.

Very prompt and excellent customer service. Chocolate was very tasty and much appreciated by its recipient. Nicely presented and good selection. Unfortunately they did send the wrong chocolate bar type (milk instead of honeycomb) and my order got lost in the system so almost wasn't sent, but I was very satisfied with the resolution. Staff very friendly and appreciate it's a small team! Would also recommend changing the divider inside the box to be lower so that it's easier to get the chocolates out. Took a bit of dismantling to get to them!!

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your custom & for taking the time to send us your feedback - we are delighted to hear that you thought the fillings were lovely but are a bit confused by your comment that the chocolate tastes cheap as we can assure you it is anything but! Further, many of the fillings are ganache-based which means they are made with the same single origin chocolate as their shells. We only work with chocolate made from fine cocoa beans sourced from Venezuela, Madagascar or Colombia which is higher in cocoa solids than cheap chocolate & consequently lower in sugar. Our chocolates are all also palm-oil free, an ingredient that is often in cheap chocolate. Thanks again for your custom. Best regards, Claire Burnet co-founder

The chocolates were presented nicely and packaged well so that they arrived in perfect condition. Some of them were amazing (especially their alcoholic ones which didn’t taste too strong but definitely a hint of alcohol) and others good - not sure that they were worth the price paid (£25 + £5 delivery). I wanted to support a small business rather than the big companies like hotel chocolat, but it was more expensive. I found the chocolate menu card wasn’t the easiest to use as some chocolates looked very similar.

Dear Lucy, Thank you for your support of a small artisan business and for taking the time to send us your review. We are delighted to hear that you were impressed by most of the chocolates and yes we are bit more expensive than the likes of Hotel Chocolat (but not much). Our large box is £24 and we also offer a cheaper postage rate of £3.95 just to clarify that. Our prices are actually very good value given the quality of the fine single origin chocolate we work with, the local ingredients we source and that we make all our chocolates fresh in small batches & completely by hand - we make the fillings & the moulds, we pipe, dip & roll the truffles by hand (most chocolate companies buy in ready-made hollow balls to fill with a filling) and we decorate each chocolate by hand. They are then all packed into their boxes by hand. To be honest, there is no comparison in terms of the amount of work that goes into making our chocolates to say Hotel Chocolat's mass produced offerings! We are sorry to hear that you found some of the chocolates difficult to identify on the menu - this is an ongoing challenge for us as we do decorate them by hand, so they can sometimes vary slightly to the picture, but we are always trying to ensure that they are as close as possible and review this regularly. We created a single menu for our Valentine chocolates which included the additional flavours that were in the large box. We did list the flavours that would be in the medium box on its page on the website but will bear it in mind that perhaps for the future, we need a different menu for the medium box to the large box. Chocolates are fantastic but getting them out of the box is frustratingly difficult. Why should we need to be advised to remove a divider to get the chocolates out? And then have the hassle of trying to put the divider back in again to keep the remaining chocolates in place! Sorry for the price charged the box needs redesigning-in fact for any price you charge you need a better box. This existing box issue would put me off ordering again.

Dear Bob, Many thanks for your custom and for taking the time to send us your review. We are delighted to hear that you thought our chocolates were fantastic but are sorry to hear that you struggled so much with the grids. We use our cardboard grid system to ensure that the chocolates travel to their destination in perfect condition, whatever they go through in transit, as it keeps each chocolate separate in its square. Further, the grids are plastic-free which is really important to us - most chocolates are sold in boxes with plastic trays inside which is something we wanted to avoid, so we have been using our cardboard grid format since we launched Chococo back in 2002. We advise lifting out the grids to help extract the chocolates, but don't expect anyone to want to put the grids back in again after as we would hope that you would be able to keep the box flat once you are starting to enjoy them. Chocolates amazing! But the packaging is plastered with the branding, it is therefore impossible to buy as a present for someone in your household. We had Valentines day 3 days early as a result. Sort the packaging to be incognito/plain and you have a 5 star product!

Beautifully presented, and it was great to try am new, independent company. Some of the chocolates were wonderful, bit there were quite a few that we weren't keen on. We found the 'map', although cleverly drawn, frustrating as it wasn't a good match for many of the chocolates. Overall, it was great to try this company, but it didn't win us over.
