About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I hv noticed that the gym and equipment are dirty. Equipment is old and needs replacing / repairing”

We truly appreciate your honesty and it is through feedback like yours that we can continuously improve. Firstly, we would like to sincerely apologise for the cleanliness of our gym and equipment. We understand how important it is to have a clean and hygienic environment to work out in. Rest assured, we take this matter very seriously and will address it immediately. Additionally, we are sorry to hear that some of our equipment is old and in need of replacement or repair. We understand that this can affect the quality of your workout and we want to make sure you have the best experience possible. We have just invested in all new cardiovascular equipment and are working on the budget to replace the resistance equipment as soon as possible. We would love to hear more about your suggestions on how we can make things better. Your insights are valuable to us in ensuring that we meet your expectations and provide you with a fantastic gym experience. Please feel free to share any further thoughts or specific areas that you think need improvement. Once again, we truly appreciate your feedback and thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. “Bridgend facilities are good, instructors passionate about what they do and staff friendly. The gym is overcrowded during peak times though and maintenance and cleaning issues are not resolved very quickly. The spa is in need of a deep clean as spraying a hose pipe over dirty tiles does not remove the grime. Other customers share the same concerns about cleanliness. These have been reported to staff including managers over many years. I know for a fact the area in a photo I took (which I can’t seem to submit with this review) have not been cleaned since well before COVID lockdowns. When issues are reported I have been told the spa is cleaned regularly. As stated earlier, pointing a hose pipe at filthy tiles doesn’t remove the scum and dirt. I would like to see the spa cleaned properly and other maintenance issues fixed quickly. I will provide more examples. More posts to follow. Photos can be provided. I genuinely want to make the Halo in Bridgend even better than it already is. There are lots of good things, it’s a shame some basics don’t get done properly. Kind regards, Mike”

“Great gym, cafe , and library. Brilliant! Staff don't speak though, only to favourites. In many years of attending, only one staff member Tom regularly says hello”

“I can only comment on the gym, which I use weekly. The new equipment is good and the member of staff there that I see most often (Ryan) is always very friendly, helpful & hard-working. I feel that fault and minor repair issue reporting does not seem to be as effective as it should be. H&S awareness and premises management needs a higher profile to ensure that standards are maintained; these are often low cost issues. Cleaning also seems to be a low priority matter.”

Our service and repairs contractors usually attend within 48 hours, however a recent issue with our climbers was initially intermittent, so there appeared to be no fault when i looked into it. This has since been reported and the technical team have attended site to work towards a resolution Similarly, we appreciate your feedback on health and safety awareness, premises management, and cleaning. We understand that these aspects are crucial for maintaining high standards and we will make this a priority for improvement. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. “I enjoy using the gym at Bromyard Halo Centre. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The gym is well laid out and there are more than enough pieces of equipment to work out on. It always looks clean and bright. Whenever anything needs replacing or repairing, it always appears to be done promptly.”

“I only go for the swimming, which I enjoy for exercise. It is becoming more difficult to find a quiet time due to the increasing demand for the facilities, as Ledbury's population is expanding with all the new housing developments.”

“Been to lots of these types of places over the years and this is the best i have experienced.s Well run by staff who care..nipping clean...excellent all round facilities for all types of activety and staff who know their stuff regarding helping folk to improve their fitness both physically and mentally.”

“Halo Ledbury is an excellent sports centre run by friendly staff. I used the pool, the sauna and the gym, and found them (and the changing facilities) excellent and always clean. The improvements that would have led to the 5th * are more proactive staff - staff were always very friendly but it was always up to me to initiate - and some more places / availability on fitness classes (I tried a couple of times to get on but with no luck). But these were very minor imperfections. It's a very good pool and gym.”
