About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Limited machines, inaccessible to disabled and non-driving people, gym is dated despite the 'renovation', dirty changing rooms.

The rating is to highlight the issue rather you skim over the review because it has a higher star rating. My rating would be 4 star based on swimming alone. That said i do feel in the "swim for fitness" activity you need to add more lanes. So currently you have two fast lanes roped off. Then two big double lanes for medium and slow swimmers. I thought if you added another rope in to lane 3/4 the wide medium lane you create a medium to fast lane next to the two fast lanes. This additional lane would help split out the fast lane swimmers so the lanes won't be too full. This would use up the space in lanes 3/4 more effectivily also. Other than that the pool is clean and tidy and the pool staff are friendly helpfull and always greet us with a warm smile even at 6.20 am.

A lot of the machines in the gym are old or not working, you can never get signal in the centre so it’s difficult to log into the app and confirm you attended a class which meant I got no show fees multiple times.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Halo, I'm sorry you are not happy with the service you've received this time We are in the process of upgrading our gym equipment, you will find new kit arriving in the near future and we have already upgraded our cardio machines. All gym equipment is working and in good order at this current time, our service provider is on call to provide repairs within 48 hours in the event of any equipment not working We understand the difficulty you faced in getting a signal within our centre, which made it challenging for you to log into our app and confirm your attendance for classes. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We are actively looking into improving the connectivity within our centre to resolve this issue. The front desk should be manned between 8am and 8pm, where a member of staff can manually confirm your attendance if this is an option for you Many Thanks Charlie

Website is absolutely dire. Very difficult/impossible to see what is available and when. Went in hoping to get an A4 summary as in other centres. Nothing at all available. No leaflets or any information. Referred to the app but when shown it was just as bad as the website. The lady who showed me was very helpful but even she could not find anything clear on the app.

Much of the gym equipment is broken and has been for some time. It's a scam to be asked to pay of that money for membership when so much of the equipment is faulty. Staff are helpful and understanding where possible.

The gym equipment is appalling, the training room is inadequate. The Sauna and jacuzzi is defective. Showers in the men's changing rooms are inadequate with the length of time of water. Often no body wash in the showers.

Far too small a gym for it's occupancy. Machines are too close together people find it difficult to walk past whilst you are using the equipment. Not enough equipment, you are waiting forever to get a go, far too busy with too many people on their phones rather than working out, holding up the machines. Too many kids at peak times, wasting time not knowing what they are doing and again holding up the equipment. I was paying full price as I am in full time work and could only go in the evenings. People on the benefit payment who do not work should not be going at this time as well as kids. Complete waste of money if you are a serious gym goer, I have now given my months notice and will be joining Nuffield health as a result.

95% of the staff on reception are awful. Ignorant, miserable and unprofessional, I’ve been a member there for a long time and to be honest I’ve had enough of it. When are you going to wake up Halo? Get rid of these people.

The smell from the toilets and the pool has used plasters floating in the drains. The scum around the top of the main pool is so disgusting you could write your name in it. No one ever answer the phone. Paying over £37 a month is ridiculously expensive for the conditions to be like that In Hereford!!!

My son booked and attended the gym. Because he walked through without swiping his card, he got charged a fee of around £8, even though I paid monthly. This happened a few times. Absolutely disgusting. Tried phoning several times with no one available to speak to. So I cancelled by deleting my monthly payment’s through my bank.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't get through to anyone as we like to try and remedy any issues with customers whenever we can. We require customers to record attendance on arrival for a number of reasons such as recording the number of people in the building for Health & Safety purposes and monitoring people who book slots during busy periods then don't attend (therefore blocking the appointment for someone else) Our reception staff would have resolved the fee issue had we known Many apologies
