About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Far too expensive for the service provided. Centre is tired and dated. Equipment is shabby and dirty, not enough variety of classes or understanding of levels.”

“Overall good experience but fast track system never works so often caught in long cues to check in at desk. Facilities good but really need a jacuzzi to justify higher rating.”

“Well equipped gym and loads of classes. Sadly the cafe is 'lacking' and I found the gym a bit dark and oppressive. Clunky entry system unless you download the app. Sometimes queuing for 10 minutes.”

“Poor reception - one just stand there and nobody attends to you Nobody answers the phone. Very difficult to get into classes. It would appear that the Bridgend centre is understaffed.”

“Hereford leisure centre is great but Hereford leisure pool is filthy! The swimming pool is disgusting, I once saw an ice cream plastic spoon floating whilst I swam by! The pool floor is covered in sand, loose tiles on the sides of the pool and some times it stinks by the shallow end of something similar sewage. I can only afford to use this pool and have to for training for my triathlons but please please clean it up, sort the filter out (guessing that’s where the sand is coming from) stop people walking in with shoes on with no covers. Make everyone shower never getting in the pool and stop letting people drink in the pool. Some people bring bottles to the edge of the pool but then take the lid off and drink the in pool. I’ve seen someone spill this before and it’s not nice swimming with that in the water.”

Dear Ezzy Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback on Halo. We are disappointed to read your feedback as staff take pride in the centre and being able to deliver a positive experience. If there are any occasions you are not satisfied with something please do raise it with any member of staff immediately and action will be taken. We do have a thorough pool water cleaning and filtration system and have recently purchased a second pool vac so we can reduce the amount of sand that comes through from the filters. We have had comments from customers that they have seen a vast improvement. We can only advise and educate customers to use overshoes and shower beforehand, it is not something that can be policed all the time. We have added more overshoe containers and shoe storage racks to encourage this further. We advise hydration whilst swimming like any other form of exercise so will encourage the use of water bottles, they obviously need to have appropriate liquid inside. I do hope your next visit is a positive experience, please do raise any concerns you may have to a member of staff. Kind regards, Hereford Leisure Pool

“The facilities are great and the staff are friendly, however I’ve got to knock a star for the lockers. A lot of them are broken and I’ve lost at least 3 £1 coins in lockers that don’t have the right key/don’t lock and just swallow the coin anyway. A few don’t even have doors.”

“Website is absolutely dire. Very difficult/impossible to see what is available and when. Went in hoping to get an A4 summary as in other centres. Nothing at all available. No leaflets or any information. Referred to the app but when shown it was just as bad as the website. The lady who showed me was very helpful but even she could not find anything clear on the app.”

“The changing rooms are not clean. They never smell fresh and there is ingrained dirt over the shower cubicles etc. They should be thoroughly cleaned throughout the day and between classes. No soap available in toilets either. Also smelled like urine the other week.”
