About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Friendly staff and easy parking”

“The gym itself is great and the staff are friendly. Most days, I attend the gym from around 4pm. My biggest gripe is the amount of kids using the equipment without any support, or guidance. I have seen many ‘close calls’ with them dropping weights, messing around, or not correctly using the equipment, hogging the equipment so that serious gym ‘goers’ like me are unable to use the equipment. These youngsters are an accident waiting to happen. The staff unfortunately do not seem to intervene or at least keep an eye. In my eyes, this is a huge downfall for the gym as it really is a great gym and has made me think about leaving unless this changes. My final point would be in relation to the amount of heat that is pumped into the changing rooms, very hot after an intense workout!”

“The gym itself is great. The staff are lovely and friendly. It’s clean and has great facilities. The biggest issues are the high volume of teenagers there at 4pm. The gym is almost unusable at times. They wait for staff to leave the room and use all the equipment in groups of up to 6 people. They mess around. Risk injury by dropping weights and stop those coming from work using the equipment. I therefore have to wait around for equipment. If they were using the equipment correctly I would wait my turn however it’s sometimes unbearable and I have thought about leaving this gym for this reason only. Which is a huge shame. I know a lot of other people think this way too.”

“Need a better range of fitness classes. No body attack, body combat, boxercise/ boxfit. Same classes are repeated. Tabata class is amazing but only on once a week on a Thursday so if you work that day you miss it. Also wish the classes were at 5.45pm instead of 5.30pm after work as can only just get there with a mad rush.”

“Staff and equipment excellent. But the whole enterprise is let down badly by the lockers. Many will not take the pound coin and others, having taken it will not give it back. This does take the gloss off an otherwise very rewarding experience for which congratulations.”

“I go swimming every Monday morning, and find the facilities very good, and the staff very helpful. The only negative comment is regarding getting an answer, when I have tried to phone.”

“I started by joining the aqua aerobics following an accident. These sessions have proved to be very helpful in my rehabilitation and also very enjoyable. Taking out a membership helps cut the cost of these, whilst offering the opportunity to use a wide variety of gym equipment which I am working my way through. The staff are very friendly and approachable.”

We truly appreciate your honesty and it is through feedback like yours that we can continuously improve. Firstly, we would like to sincerely apologise for the cleanliness of our gym and equipment. We understand how important it is to have a clean and hygienic environment to work out in. Rest assured, we take this matter very seriously and will address it immediately. Additionally, we are sorry to hear that some of our equipment is old and in need of replacement or repair. We understand that this can affect the quality of your workout and we want to make sure you have the best experience possible. We have just invested in all new cardiovascular equipment and are working on the budget to replace the resistance equipment as soon as possible. We would love to hear more about your suggestions on how we can make things better. Your insights are valuable to us in ensuring that we meet your expectations and provide you with a fantastic gym experience. Please feel free to share any further thoughts or specific areas that you think need improvement. “Bridgend facilities are good, instructors passionate about what they do and staff friendly. The gym is overcrowded during peak times though and maintenance and cleaning issues are not resolved very quickly. The spa is in need of a deep clean as spraying a hose pipe over dirty tiles does not remove the grime. Other customers share the same concerns about cleanliness. These have been reported to staff including managers over many years. I know for a fact the area in a photo I took (which I can’t seem to submit with this review) have not been cleaned since well before COVID lockdowns. When issues are reported I have been told the spa is cleaned regularly. As stated earlier, pointing a hose pipe at filthy tiles doesn’t remove the scum and dirt. I would like to see the spa cleaned properly and other maintenance issues fixed quickly. I will provide more examples. More posts to follow. Photos can be provided. I genuinely want to make the Halo in Bridgend even better than it already is. There are lots of good things, it’s a shame some basics don’t get done properly. Kind regards, Mike”
