“Brilliant - was able to get the shade of Cuprinol ‘Garden Shades’ paint. I bought 2x 1L cans of ‘Rich Berry’ - looks great and hard to find elsewhere. Goes on slightly pinker (don’t worry!) settles and dries as a lovely ‘Acer’ colour (Autumn red, maple’ colour. Only comment is that I’m going to have to buy more as with the 1L cans I think I’ll need 4. (2-5L can option would be ideal - as feedback/suggestion)”

Hi Katie, The picture look amazing and sets the scene perfectly..... hop, skip and a jump over the freshly painted "rich Berry" fence and swan-dive into the pool.... James Bond "eat your heart out" ;0) Thank you for your detailed review and picture, it is really appreciated. Thank you also for your comments on the 1ltr tin size availability. Johnstones like many other paint producers make various "base colours" and from these we tint to the desired shade. Unfortunately, the "Rich Berry" is produced from a base which is only available in 1ltr containers. This is not the first time we have received similar feedback on 2.5ltr containers/colours not being available in 5ltrs. We will relay your comments to PPG Johnstones and hope that things may change moving forward. Thanks again for your review and picture. All the best from the team at tools-paint.com

“I bought some cuprinol shades Iris paint in a 1ltr can from B&Q to try out, couldn't get a tester pot for love nor money, tried it and decided it was the shade I liked and then tried to order some 5ltr cans as I had 22 6Ft panels to paint. Then discovered after searching everywhere and finally contacting cuprinol that they don't do it in 5ltrs only 1ltr! Not very helpful why not say this on the can! Long story etc - thank goodness for Tools-Paint who could mix me up the colour in 2.5ltr cans. Delivery was good, packaged very well and securely and paint seems fine. I say seems because I opened a can and painted some of the fencing and it looked great, however yesterday I went out to continue and opened the can and as I was painting realised it is slightly lighter now which is strange, same can. I am hoping that maybe as it dries it gets darker, I will have to see. Overall happy, I did contact Tools-paint to ask if they did a 5ltr size but they didn't ever reply so I assume not.”

Hi Diane, thank you so much for taking the trouble to review tools-paint.com in so much depth. I would like to answer the questions raised. • Unfortunately the largest tin size we can produce in this colour is 2.5ltr. Cuprinol colours are made for a number of “bases”, “bases” are like the name suggests the base material to which tints are added to get the desired shade, pastel bases for some shades, deep bases for others etc. Certain bases are available in 1ltr, 2.5ltr and 5ltr, the base used for “Iris” is only available in 1ltr and 2.5ltr, I am sorry to report. • The paint appears “lighter” than when originally opened. Sorry to question this, “had you stirred the paint”? This is a common action that is overlooked, the paint will need to be stirred with a paddle ideally, or a ruler, something that is wide and mixes the paint. Any paint needs to be agitated, “stirred”, really should read “mix paint well”, stirring alone will not mix the pigment at the bottom with the base material at the top of the tin (round and round and up and down). If a stick, cane or screw-driver is used it will not disperse the pigment thoroughly into the paint base. The appearance of paint in a tin when mixed and when first applied will appear lighter than the final cured colour, paint does dry darker generally speaking. I hope that this puts your mind at rest and please accept my apologies if these actions had been taken Finally a big apology for any unanswered emails you sent referencing a 5ltr can. We do try and respond to all emails/questions, I am sorry if this was missed.

Hi Kath, thank you for your review and thank you for the correspondence we have had regarding the appearance and performance of the anti-slip version of the CooVar floor paint. The CooVar floor paint comes in two varieties "smooth" (as you purchased originally) and "anti-slip" (most recent purchase). Smooth as the name suggests is a smooth hard-wearing floor paint, similar to the appearance of a glossy enamel. The "anti-slip" version is "textured" and has an additive in that gives the appearance and feel of sand-paper, hence the anti-slip. To try and evaluate the two products side-by-side is not comparing apples with apples, more apples with oranges. Both are fruit, similar size, shape and weight but similarities end soon-after. Floor paints from CooVar could be deemed in a similar way, both "CooVar", both "light Grey", both "floor paint". However, the appearance from textured to smooth would give a different gloss level/surface finish, likewise the smooth and textured would give different grip and durability characteristics.
