The scampi was the worst I have ever experienced. It had been badly shelled, was soggy and completely tasteless, probably because it had been frozen inefficiently. I bought it because I was phoned and told it was on special offer and I was tempted. Please don't phone me again.

Hello Mr Hinchliffe I am sorry you thought our scampi was so poor. I am mystified. It is the same scampi from the same supplier, frozen in the same way as you have had many times before. We have sold about 400 packs in the last 2 months with no other complaints. I have put a credit on your account for the full price paid, £39.20. I have marked your account “Do not call”. This is what I wrote to the Fish Society: I thought I would write and let you know about our starter for our dinner party from the Christmas order number 94309, which we first used last Saturday The North Atlantic peeled prawns and the giant red crab were served on a bed of lettuce and served with a Rosemarie sauce at our dinner party which was for eight on Saturday evening, they were chewy and on closer inspection they were loose and had frostbite. Why was the prawns in one big bag and loose as was the giant crab not vacuumed packed? The rest of our order that is vacuum packed is fine. We have had the North Atlantic prawns before and came in bags of 200 grams, which were gorgeous. What went wrong? Danny G Norris ......................................................................................................................... This is the answer that was received: Hello Danny I’m sorry you had this experience. I’m not sure what the explanation is as regards the prawns. But I can answer your questions about the packaging. The crab cannot be vac-packed because of the thorns on its shell. These puncture the vac pac straight away. We have never vac-packed this kind of crab. I can assure you the prawns were the identical prawns from the same factory as before. We don’t vac pack these either. Vac packing a bagful of small items such as prawns can result in them freezing together if anyone down the chain is slightly careless with temperature or the delivery is delayed. The prawns have a light glaze which protects them from the cold, except when it burns off via freezer burn if they are left exposed. The prawns were in a large bag because this is a saver pack at a lower price (per kg) than a small pack. The large bag saves packaging and labour and enables the saver packs to be priced lower. We sell hundreds of these packs a year. As long as you close the bag up tightly when returning top your freezer, it should be fine. As for the frost bite – I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean a very frosty finish like whiskers? Or do you mean “freezer burn” where the surface goes “bright” white? These have different causes. Either way – is it possible this happened at your end? Our throughput of these prawns is so fast (so they don’t have time to deteriorate) and our checking of them when dispatching I believe rigorous enough to pick up almost any case of “frost bite” of whatever variety. Still, it COULD have been us. Danny, you have been a good customer for a long time. I’d like to make a gesture. If I were to put a £25 credit on your account, would you consider that a reasonable response to your email? ............................................................................................................................................. I asked for a fish between 4-5 kg and paid £125,20 including delivery and it came and it was 2,4 kg. unreasonably too expensive. I bought a fish 4,5 kg at Tesco for £27,40

The website picture was very misleading as far as the on bone halibut steak is concerned. it shows a nice steak from a youngish fish, bot what we had was from a very old fish and the result was a tasteless coarse piece of fish. It was on bone but the bone was about 20 mm across. I will definitely not be repeating the experience

I have used this company twice. Unfortunately, the second occasion has proven to be the last thanks to the rudeness of the person on the phone. I paid for a pre-noon delivery to then discover they couldn't reach me by then, which the company would have known when I placed my order but didn't advise me, so I had to call to get a refund. That was fine but when I then contacted them again as my delivery didn't show up that day the person was very unpleasant and was completely unapologetic. While the first experience may have been positive they are only as good as their last customer interaction and this was far from good.

further to Friday's comments, it seems we had an e.mail , Saying fish society hoped we enjoyed our fish. We phoned, Alistair, said this had not happened before, but phone him on sat 16/5/15 if still had not arrived, Did that no one there, I give up. Fish was for special reason, now been floating around since Tuesday 12/5/15 . Will phone on Monday 18/5/15 to be refunded, or will they tell I,ve had my fish and eaten it?

Is this company run by Basil Faulty by any chance? I have used this company many time before and last week I had a problem with my delivery, on contacting the company I received a phone call from Customer services manage Alistair Blaire ( Basil Faulty) For a customer services Manager he is very unprofessional, rude, arrogant and likes to shout at customers down the phone. I was told never to use this company after refusing to take my order at 6.45 pm.
