“The content changes style part way through (use of click through buttons, the “introduction videos” are incredibly unnecessary, my tutor had me resubmit items because she had incorrectly marked the work. Very overpriced”

“The material taught in the course is very valuable and I have learned many things while taking this course. However, my interactions with my mentor were very annoying. Every time I submitted an assignment to be graded, I would see a pop-up message that said something along the lines of "Your assignment will be graded within 48 hours excluding bank holidays." This was rarely the case. Not only did my mentor fail to grade multiple assignments within 48 hours, but it felt like they would wait until the 48th hour to START grading even the smallest assignments. I finished the great majority of the content of the course within one week and spent TWO WEEKS just waiting on my mentor for days on end. I wanted to get this certification done before an application deadline, but I only got this certification several hours AFTER the submission deadline because this mentor took almost FOUR DAYS to grade my final assignments (and there were ZERO bank holidays). To sum up this course experience: The actual course was great! My mentor was HORRIBLE.”

“While the aim is wonderful, the content is a bit dry and somewhat inflexible. The videos about the PPP method seemed to contradict themselves: one video used the chain story, if I recall correctly, to illustrate the production part. However, a few videos on, it indicated that was incorrect. That was the practice stage. There also seemed to be a mismatch between the videos and the expectations of the instructor, which led me to quoting directly from the videos to justify my particular responses. It felt as if the films and the instructor weren't entirely on the same page.”

“Some of the lessons and curses were redundant . At least for me , maybe you should offer grammar elementary courses to teachers who have never studied grammar. I also think that to pay for the extension was too expensive and a way to get more money from the students. It is claimed your price is reasonable but not really when you count all the extensions I paid. The last two courses are the most valuable ones and I wish I had started the program with those two to keep Me motivated and engaged .”

Hi Amelia, Thank you for your feedback. Although our courses are to help people who are already fluent in English become teachers of English, we do like to provide a short grammar section on our courses. This is a great refresher for many of our students. Although we provide 5 to 7 months (course dependent) to complete a course, we also like to ensure we offer different extensions should these be needed. “I found the course itself very educational and easy to follow. Towards the end of the course I struggled a lot with my tutor. I did not feel like she was marking the assignments carefully and would give feedback that was either very vague or was asking me to do things that I felt I had already covered. As i felt like the was being unfair and failing me 'for the sake of it', there was one assignment that i waited a few days and simply resubmitted the exact same piece of work to which I was passed and she wrote "much better thank you Bethan". It was a shame that such a good helpful course was made so frustrating at the very end by unprofessionalism from the tutor.”

We do feel that 48-hours for our tutors to provide feedback for all of their students is a suitable time frame, but I will certainly pass along your feedback to them. You should have received a confirmation email once you requested your hard copy certificate. All our certificates are sent by standard delivery, so there would be no further updates after this. Depending which country you are based, the post can take up to 4 weeks to arrive. If it has been longer, please reach out to the customer service team who can help you further with this.

“It was good. Classrooms were sometimes hard to hear. Lessons shouldn’t be split into multiple sections for example: definition and examples can be put together instead of multiple separate 30 second videos.”

“I know that it's a prestigious certificate but the certificate has no hologram,and more than that I had a tutor who should have supported me during this course and she did really nothing.no support at all and for one task she rejected my lesson plan 3 times and each time that I corrected my task she chanded her review. If at the first time she had written the reviews completely I wouldn't have to pay 1900 lira for extension time. I submitted all that task at the first time with 100 and passed them for the first time but 10 days for one task??? It was not fair at all with no support from the tutor. And even I showed all that tasks that she had rejected to great tesol,tefl, celta and delta teachers, every body told me your lesson plan is perfect why she rejected.it shows that it comes out of the creative mind.but she rejected 3 times,she answered late and I had to pay mor money and that was unfair. Really I have a big negative comment on the support... I loved this course but at last it was like a trouble for me. Sorry I complain a lot, but I am so sad about all the issues that I told. And we paid for the delivery of our certificate”

You can be sure that our certificate does include a hologram, but you need to request the hard copy first, as the PDF copy I see you just have at the moment could not possibly include a hologram. Please log into your account to request this free hard copy certificate where our printers can then create this quality document for you. Our tutors are certainly there to provide feedback on your assignments, but to receive support if you struggle you would have to contact them and ask questions first. You will have received their direct email address when you first enrolled. They are always happy to provide additional help when requested. As long as you submitted your course work on time, your tutor can certainly mark this even after a deadline passes, so there would have been no need to purchase an extension - you simply just needed to contact us. You also did not pay for the delivery of your certificate, as the initial certificate is included in the cost of your course. As you have not requested this certificate as yet, you can still do this by logging into your account. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the customer service team.

“I found the grammar course the most interesting and I learnt a lot from that module, however some of the assessments were not very effective as you could randomly select true or false and then the quiz would be marked and tell you if you were right/wrong, meaning on your next go - you could work out the answers even if you didn't understand the questions. This was particularly true for the Video Observation course where the questions asked you 'which lesson was better? the good one or the bad one?'”

“The website was easy to use and the grammar portion was very helpful. I have 5+ years of teaching experience but even I did struggle in planning some of the lessons as the videos didn't always overlap with the quizzes/assignments. It can be difficult to plan a single lesson for an assignment and have to make assumptions about class ability/prior knowledge etc and the word limit can affect how much detail is put into answers. Overall, it was useful but I can imagine that people with no classroom experience would struggle with the course.”

“I'm happy I finished. However I found many punctual errors even in the lessons and my feedback from my assignments often lacked complete/full sentences. A lot of videos are somewhat outdated and could use updating.”

“I found the grammar course to be less helpful than I thought it might be, it was a very brief overview and really didn't go into much depth. After paying for the course, I was urged to buy a grammar book to learn on my own - which in my opinion defeats the purpose of the course. I found the methodology course to be quite outdated, overall I don't feel very prepared after taking the course.”

We try to focus most of our Teaching English as a Foreign Language courses on creating and delivering lessons, but do certainly cover some grammar as well. It is certainly not essential to buy a grammar book to complete our courses, but these books are recommended by our experienced TEFL teachers who still use these in class themselves. “I felt the course video/media content was quite outdated and didn't really hold my attention. The videos, for me, are dull compared in keeping with the now. It could do with a brighten up. There could be content showing how to do online lessons. I feel this is an important, missing aspect. My tutors were helpful and quick to respond.”

“All in all a useful course and a very useful and recognized certificate. With some blind spots. (Which we all have. It’s okay. Really.) The TEFL Method is a rigid ESL structure that takes itself very seriously. There is no room in its dogma to admit or consider any other way of teaching English. As one winds their way through the course one is forced to be guided by TEFL’s inflexible rules, tediously and tirelessly laid out by the curriculum and reinforced by the Instructors and TAs. I found the homework feedback given to me by my TA Steve to be off putting and negative from the start, and after the first two assignments I stopped reading his responses altogether. (He began his second feedback to me thusly: “Do not do what you have written here”, which although admittedly has a certain amount of blunt humor, is unhelpful.) It was enough to know I passed the assignments and simply move on, without taking the time to read his feedback and take my lashes. He may have had some fantastic ideas from which I would have benefitted greatly. I wouldn’t know. The classroom videos of the course are excellent and illuminating. I enjoyed them and collected some good ideas. The website is buggy, but mostly functional. I often had to go back to a lesson and pretend to do it again for the Course to update it and mark it as completed. Upon completing a lesson, instead of moving me forward to the next lesson, the website would at times seem to freeze before taking me back to the main page of module, where I had to scroll down and find my correct lesson. A bit annoying. I am giving the 140-hour TEFL course 3/5 stars, because I did enjoy the material, whose subject matter (learning and teaching languages) I am passionate about. I did learn a lot. I just wish TEFL was more receptive to other ideas. For all its worthy insistence on Student Teaching Time, it felt like I was being preached at for 140 hours, including the 20-hour live module on Zoom, where questions were brushed aside, probably—and fairly—due to time constraints, and including my TA, who made it clear from the start that my class planning was to include only those ideas blessed in TEFL holy water. The TEFL Method is not so precious. There are many ways to learn a second language. There are as many ways to teach a second language. Humans learn things. It’s what we do. Alas, if you want the blessing of a recognized and renowned certification, you must enter the Church and take your lashes. Be sure to leave your own ideas and experiences at the Door.”

“The course was interesting and covered alot. I must be honest though, and say that the videos of classes were not very realistic. About 8 people in a class and all spoke pretty good English already not sure exactly what level they were. This did not help me much when it came to writing lesson plans for pre intermediate and intermediate. Also the Methodology video was about 'Clothes' ...easy right ? but it didn't help me at all to write a lesson plan for Past Continuous Interrupted for that module 😕!!! I teach 3hour long classes for Pre and Entry 1 with over 10 in most groups. The feedback is very limited but having said that they do get back within the 48hours. I'm guessing it's the best around but has a few areas for development .”

“The lessons were clear and useful. However, within the modules there were some spelling mistakes in the text, which was very unprofessional, you would think there would be proofreaders. In some of the video lessons the audio is extremely quiet and hard to hear. The transcriptions of the videos aren't actually transcriptions except for in the Telephone Teaching Course. The transcriptions are a sentence saying what the video is of, not the words spoken. The combination of the lack of transcription and bad audio made some of the videos incomprehensible to me. The courses themselves did teach a lot about how to teach English and the necessary preparations for classes.”
