I enjoyed the courses and the variety of methods used. I would have valued seeing videos of lessons with groups at different levels rather than the same one each time.

I may not have a full experience but I do understand how to approach teaching English. My focus is towards Japanese students and based on some sample classes I saw on YouTube, I was surprised it was mostly English (may depends on how good the school is). Though, based on my experience at JASM and overhearing some interactions in Tokyo, I feel like their English is not good in comparison to Koreans and Taiwanese. The course emphasizes only using English but I think usage of Native Language during Lead-in may help connect their intentions with the sentences they’re trying to form mentally. Overall, I do feel I have a better understanding of teaching English.

Hi Yuta, Thanks for sharing. We’re glad you found value in understanding approaches to teaching English. You will find that most EFL schools will expect their teachers to provide an immersive experience when teaching English, and they frown upon speaking the native language in class. We wish you all the best in your TEFL journey! Warm regards, The TEFL Org Team

I found it very informative and my supervisor was extremely helpful in suggesting other ways to approach the assignments. Well worth the time and cost.

Amazing , helpful teachers; Great and super practically useful knowledge in lessons; if I have one minor complaint it’s that I had trouble with the classroom section as it took quite a long time for me to be able to do it. Thankfully, I eventually was able to get into it live, and though I also feel as though they should clarify that the classroom section that is required does have homework between lessons, aside from that it was a really useful and good experience. Aside from that, this is a bit more minor but I feel as though some of the lesson modules can seem a lot longer than others by a large mile; still, it’s completely doable though. Overall I am so happy TEFL I got my certification thru TEFL org!

TEFL is excellent for new teachers (teaching for 5 or less years). It introduced great pedagogy and strategies that would give new teachers confidence in a classroom setting and plenty of ideas. It’s even good for veteran teachers, such as myself, who may have become complacent in our teaching to better hone our skills and current lessons, to look at new methodologies to bring to the classroom, and to improve ourselves. The struggle I had with TEFL is that my experience as a veteran teacher, (teaching for 22 years and being an ESL coordinator for the last 10 of those years), I felt like my experiences were dismissed and ignored on assignments. On several assignments, even if I used verbiage that demonstrated that I was “eliciting” teaching/learning, the fact that I didn’t actually write the word “elicit” seem to mean my lesson was instantly a failure. Another example, I had the assignment where students had to listen to the song, “Don’t worry, be happy.” On my lesson plan I wrote that the students would have the lyrics and the vocabulary would be color coded so that they (the students) would be able to see where the vocabulary was being used. As a native English speaker, who also knows the song very well, I STILL used closed caption to see the words just so I could see where the vocabulary I was using was placed in the sentence of the song just as a helpful visual. It wasn’t about reading the lyrics, it was a sentence stem to help while listening to the lyrics, which is an ESL strategy that I currently use, however, that assignment was marked wrong. Yet, I did notice in the next module it was actually mentioned that the teacher should have the vocabulary shown so the students could see it, making it feel like a contradiction to what was being graded on that previous assignment. Last, there was a video where a tutor demonstrated a “bad lesson” where he spoke quickly, was unorganized and barely listened to the students. While I got the gist of why this was shown, it was overly dramatic, so the point was almost lost. Why not have a video where the tutor maybe forgot to use the “target language” or didn’t have free time at the end for the students to practice. This would demonstrate more effectively how missing those steps could lead to a bad lesson versus showing a lesson that just pure chaos. Having said that, I did appreciate the online modules and the best ways to engage students as I believe this will be the start of my focus in teaching.

We’re sorry to hear some experiences felt dismissed and the grading felt inconsistent. Overall I was pleased with the program. It felt achievable and worth the effort. My only frustration came from the homework feedback. I often felt there was a checklist of words and if I didn’t have those then I would have to resubmit. Or even if it was passed first time there was little encouragement.

Overall, I had a positive experience with TEFL.org. The course content was detailed, well organized, and easy to navigate. I especially appreciated having an assigned tutor who could provide individualized feedback on lesson planning and teaching methodology. I definitely feel more confident in my understanding of lesson structures and classroom techniques after completing the course. My biggest criticism was the grading process. I felt my tutor graded far more harshly than necessary, often failing assignments not because the lesson was incorrect or ineffective, but because it didn't match his personal approach to teaching. In several cases, it felt like there was only one "correct" way to complete an assignment, despite there often being multiple pedagogically sound approaches to lesson planning. Some revisions also came down to adding or changing only a few words rather than demonstrating a misunderstanding of the material. I also wish there had been more variety in the written assignments. Many followed a very similar format, and after a while it felt like I was trying to predict exactly what the tutor wanted to read rather than demonstrating my own understanding of the concepts. I think incorporating more practical or scenario-based assessments would better evaluate a student's teaching ability while allowing for some creativity. Overall, I still enjoyed the course and would recommend it to others, particularly because of the quality of the learning materials and the flexibility of studying at your own pace. I just think the assessment process could be improved to better recognize that there is often more than one effective way to teach.

Course covered a lot of material but the pacing and modular form made it easy to learn. It was a review of my college grammer course but also included valuable tips and insights on planning and teaching ESL courses, both in-person and on-line. Highly recommended!

My experience with the online TEFL program was very positive. The course was well organized and easy to follow, making it simple to learn at my own pace. While some sections were more challenging than others, I appreciated that because it encouraged me to think critically and apply what I was learning. The program was also reasonably priced, especially with the discounted rate, which made it affordable. My tutor was responsive, supportive, and provided helpful feedback throughout the course. He also made it clear that I could reach out whenever I needed assistance, which made the learning experience even better. Overall, I would recommend this online TEFL program to anyone interested in teaching English abroad or online. It provided a solid foundation in lesson planning and classroom teaching, and I feel much more confident in my teaching abilities after completing the course.
