It has been a very bad experience. The videos are too old, students within the video are not motivated or engaged. Teachers in the videos are terrible explaining same as they tutor reviewing the assignments, the feedback explanations are not concisely clear. The extensions are too expensive (do not be fooled by the initial offer, them courses are ALWAYS in offer but after they rip you off lots of money to extend if needed). Almost 48 hours to correct assignments IS BAD, specially if you consider that the course expires, time is gold so your tutors should mark the assignments within 24hours instead, to be fair. The content is bland and the course is boring. I do not recommend it at all.

Dear Lydia, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We truly appreciate your honesty and the opportunity to discuss this further. We understand your frustration regarding the age of the videos - it is an uncommon instance for us as we normally receive excellent reviews regarding our videos. You can be sure your feedback will be passed on to help us with future improvements. We are committed to continually updating our course materials to ensure they are current and engaging for our students. We are also sorry to hear that the explanations provided by our teachers and tutors did not meet your expectations. We will review our feedback procedures to ensure that our explanations are concise and clear to better assist our students. Regarding the pricing and extensions, we apologise for any confusion or disappointment caused. We understand the importance of transparency so we make it clear on our website the length of each course, to help our students organise their time accordingly. Our tutors do certainly have 48-hours to mark assignments for all of their students. This ensures efficient and quality marking which includes feedback to ensure we meet the strict criteria of our accreditors. We understand that time is valuable though, so please be assured that the tutors can still mark course work even after the expiry date of the course. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and would love to hear more about how we can make things better for you and our future students. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team with any further suggestions or concerns. Thank you again for your valuable feedback and for giving us the opportunity to improve. Best regards, The TEFL Org team

Poor value for money considering it is online and self taught. Stay away from 120hr or 200hr level 5 you prefer face to face teaching. Application for jobs is non existent as there are no links to apply directly. Just a pointless course to do as if you are teaching and travelling on gap year then can complete the tefl free of charge.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback on your experience with The TEFL Org. We appreciate your honesty and are sorry to hear that you feel the course was poor value for money. We try to make it clear on the website that the online training courses do not offer face to face training, but that this can be added at a later time, or combined with the online training in our combined course options. With regard to the job centre, you should be able to access the application links and emails if you log out of your student account and then back in on the job centre, but do get in touch over the phone, chat or email if this is not working for you. With a TEFL Org certification, you would be eligible for teaching positions all over the world or online, so our team work to get you to where you would like to be teaching. Do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything else we can help you with in your TEFL journey. Sincerely, The TEFL Org Team

Overall the course was ok. Had a really bad experience with my tutor named Dee. I was confused at feedback she had written me, only to respond back in an extremely rude mannor. As a student PAYING for the course, I would never have expected to receive such a rude response from an EMPLOYEE. I’ve seen other bad reviews about her online too. Overall really boring and bad setup for the course. I guess it’s the cheapest option. Overall not a good experience

Good luck getting a refund if you're dissatisfied with the service. I requested a refund after being wrongly accused of using AI for my assignments. The software they use to detect AI usage is clearly flawed. Even after clarifying that AI was not used, my request for a refund was denied. After spending $385.50, I will receive no certification because, in their view, my words are the product of a machine, which is quite amusing when considered. At the very least, they should donate my money to charity.

The TEFL course looks like it was made in the early 1980s. I am disappointed by its level. It can be difficult for people with educational experience to watch and pass it. There is no welcome educational invention, only copying and repeating a few primitive educational techniques. Everything that is not the same as the scheme is wrong. It looks like the tutors don't understand what the educational process is. If I can share my advice for students: do not be creative. Only copy and paste, and you will be a successful student.

I had a difficult time understanding why my written assignments were incorrect. Also, I won't be using any of the formats for teaching that I was graded on. It was very frustrating because it took much longer to pass the course than I anticipated and I was delayed in starting my part-time teaching job.

I am a little disappointed in the course, considering this is an English course, the amount of spelling mistakes and other errors, in the course material was shocking. Some of the questions in the assessments were written very poorly, and it was unclear about what was actually required in the answer. I understand the 48 hours to mark assignments, but when I emailed my tutor for guidance (usually about what she's actually wanting as a question answer), it would take at least 48 hours for a reply, which normally by that point I'd already submitted, and had it marked, before receiving a reply. If we were having a conversation via email, it would take a week or more to communicate, even if I replied instantly to my tutor, I dont think that's acceptable, and if that's how I treated clients in my job, I would be sacked. Overall, I'm not happy and won't be recommending to others.

I did the "How to Teach English Online" course after completing an in-person CELTA because I was interested in learning about online lessons. Unfortunately the TEFL Org course was beyond useless. The supplied pages taught little about how to actually conduct online lessons, the videos were pointless (no example lessons/activities, just a person reading out a web page that was already provided), and the quizzes were so unchallenging that I wondered why they were there at all. At the end, an assignment asked for a lesson plan, but the course itself did not prepare me for this task. I would have at least expected an example plan to be provided. After I failed my first submission, the feedback I received effectively told me I was wrong, with no indication of why or how I could improve, requiring me to send a follow-up email to the tutor. In addition, responses from the tutor were poorly written, causing me to wonder if it was written by an AI. Even at the discounted price I paid for this course, it was a disappointing experience all around and I would not recommend it. Below you ask "How quick did the company reply to your queries?" - I don't know why there are no options between "6-12 hours" and "over a week". I chose "over a week" but I believe it took a few days.

Course as a whole is incredibly inconsistent and disorganized. I had considerable difficulties with my assignments, which often had rather vague instructions and unreasonably small word counts and overstrict enforcement of them, all the while requiring very specific and detailed answers. Difficulties continued with my tutor who would give unhelpful feedback or would demand completely arbitrary additions or reworks of my submissions that were not included or required in the original instructions. There is very little support for struggling students or those with grievances, a sentiment I have seen parroted several times on the forums (the ability to post in which are placed in an obscure spot on the site) and what does exist often takes far to long to actually respond. The information offered is incredibly useful and will be advantageous to anyone looking to teach English abroad, but there are certainly much better places from which to get this information. I would highly recommend any prospective students find another place to spend their precious time and money.

Really disappointed at the quality of customer care at what is supposed to be a learning support platform. It is the tiny details that make a difference in quality of support and essentially this is what is missing at tefl.org

Honestly, this was one of the worst experiences of my life. I would never recommend this course to anyone. I did not feel supported by my tutor Denise, I actually felt that my tutor was cold and very rude. Not a welcoming or warm environment at all, I had to reach out to introduce myself to her and her emails were not very kind but frosty. Not the way a student should be greeted, no “thanks for your email” or “I hope you are well. Regarding your email inquiry” – nothing like that. I got a “Hi” (no name) and rude answers. I felt I was continuously failed unjustifiably because my assignments weren't perfect and exactly the way she wanted them worded. Any minor error, failed. I’m not saying I didn’t deserve a failing grade for some units, of course I did – I’m a student and I’m learning. However, I did feel that I was failed repeatedly (and joyously so) by Denise with little support/encouragement. When I asked Denise if we could speak to clarify (since it was extremely difficult to dissect/understand the written feedback) the answer was no. I feel the feedback I received from my tutor wasn't consistent, it changed during the attempts and was very long running. I had to sit and dissect the information I needed to make the changes only to fail and be told I’m wrong (making me feel stupid). I felt I was shamed for not dissecting her unclear feedback to her standards. Setting a limit of 3 attempts is extremely discouraging to any student, especially when they are being made to feel foolish for not knowing exactly what is needed/expected to pass. I feel the grading practices are not clear, no information shared on the grading structure/requirements to pass. This seems unethical as this is common practice in academia to share this information. I spent 25+ hours on one assignment, 7am to 7pm, (multiple days) going through each word & paragraph meticulously to get it exactly the way I thought my tutor wanted it only to be failed - repeatedly. I had a full-on panic attack and cried nonstop feeling like a complete idiot since I couldn't pass and was trying my absolute hardest. I watched the videos, I took notes, I watched/re-watched. I knew the material. Still, constant failing, discouragement and being made to feel like I’m an idiot for not getting things perfectly done in 3 attempts. Students have different learning styles and different ways of communication and I feel that isn’t acknowledged or valued in this course. Overall, terrible experience. My tutor Denise was rude/cold/unsupportive. I don't feel like this course encourages students but rather sets the expectation that students should be perfect and know everything from watching short videos. It's completely unrealistic and can potentially put students off learning.

I think there are into just making money instead of providing TEFL certified teachers jobs. They are constantly pitching you to buy more courses and Franchises instead of providing jobs links. You complete a course and they do not issue a cerificate instead ask you to purchase the course again despite give a lifetime of usage. They say that do not care about bad reviews. TEFL Support Tue, May 16, 11:02 AM (4 days ago) to me Hi and thank you for your email. We will not be treatened by bad reviews.

Could not follow up nor exploit some group's success. In the end, what was a initial salesy promotion from a excitable inexperienced phone chat morphed deep disappointment that reflected on the others, who provided a first class online program.

Misleading mature candidates thinking of a new career at the outset. Young flaky Promoters of tefl.org where only interested in getting you on board. Dishonest when questioned about age and gender on phone, I was badly mislead. At post graduation, again I was over-looked by the industry I suspect because of my gender as male and age and even perhaps my accent made me target. How does a male with a non local accent secure employment in his retirement. As an ELF in a female industry after two courses with Tefl.org almost two years later and despite their promises, age was not a barrier along with gender. I have discovered it very much is a barrier. Tefl.org have never shown any support. I'm done spinning my wheels. I would advise all seasoned males think carefully if this is a career at retirement to remain busy. This is the worse case scenario of this more subtle form of prejudice in my view, while no sources exist in the UK to prevent it. Never received a refund nor any follow-up in finding employment. A real sense of indifference is felt from this company and its not like they are unaware of my dissatisfaction or predicament.

Thank you for your feedback, Kristina. We’re sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations. This is certainly unusual as you will see we normally receive excellent feedback on the structure of our courses. We also train thousands of students a year who go on to live and work abroad successfully with their TEFL.Org certificate. All students are assigned a tutor who can help support them through the course as well. You would have been able to contact your tutor at any time you needed help with your course. We also support our students with writing their TEFL CV, as well as grant lifelong access to our TEFL Org Jobcentre, where you will be able to exclusively access many TEFL positions both internationally and online. We also encourage an active Facebook and forum community, which include weekly webinars, blogs and a podcast. We will certainly take your feedback on board, but please feel free to reach out to info@tefl.org with any further comments, concerns, or suggestions you wish to share.
