“Super easy and informative course! Very easy to navigate and understand. The videos and the written dialogue for each one made it easy to follow along each lesson. The classroom example videos and the quizzes were a great way to apply the lessons I just learned and see it in action and test my knowledge. Would absolutely recommend this course to anyone interested in earning their TEFL certificate!”

“The entire course was great! Professional, complete, interesting and it gave me full knowledge of what teaching means. I really appreciated the Methodology course, most of all, because it highlighted lots of interesting aspects of teaching, which go much more beyond the simple knowledge of a language. “I did not think the course had much educational value for me. I needed the certification, so in that sense it was useful, but as someone with a master's degree in education it did not feel like a course that taught me anything. As an American, I was annoyed by the cut and paste way the "American English" course seemed to just take British material and reuse it. I don't think I would necessarily have been annoyed that the instructors were British, but having the course be called "the American English course" and then having the instructors be British was annoying. There were small things, like one of the main presenters was obviously faking an American accent but kept anunciating her T's strongly like a British person, and there were really glaring things, like I recall one of the questions using the term "whilst". There's nothing wrong with learning from British people, but the marketing of the product that way as "American" felt sloppy. I didn't like the feedback I got either. For instance, I recall a lesson I planned where the free part of the lesson had the scaffolding of a box of props, so that the students would be free to roleplay but wouldn't run out of ideas or get into ruts. The instructor feedback was that I needed to drop this to pass, and I did drop it, and passed, but I thought it made the lesson measurably worse. On the whole I felt like a lot of the feedback I got read as being in the form of a form letter, to the pount that I wondered if it was even a person or just an AI. In any case, I did not feel like revisions I made made my lessons better. I told a friend that the TEFL lessons eemed designed to make my teaching worse. There were parts of the grammar section I disliked too. A lot of the questions seemed meaningless, or even wrong on their face. There was one I remembered asking how many tenses there are in English, and that's an extremely debatable question, because some linguists regard English as being like Chinese and not having a "true" future tense since it uses a helping verb, "will". But definitely the answer isn't more than three, because the other examples that were offered were really differences in mood or aspect. The lessons did get to aspect later, so I think that was fine, but the question felt designed to sell snake oil. It was like, "You speak English natively, but did you know...?!" and my answer was "Yes, I did know, better than the designers of this dumb multiple choice test." Overall, maybe I'll recommend it to someone since it seems to have a good reputation, but my opinion is the reputation isn't earned.”

“I was incredibly excited to get started with my TEFL certification. I have always worked with kids, whether it be teaching or camp counseling. Being involved with the youth is a passion of mine. I was beyond stoked for the possibility of not only teaching but teaching abroad. My excitement quickly turned to discouragement. The first issue started when I was assigned my courses incorrectly with a faulty timeline. I started completing my courses out of order because my program date was shortened by 6 months causing me to stress and panic. I completed the assignments in my first course and received a failing grade on an exam- which happens. But, upon reading why I failed my instructor, Thomas, failed me because I hadn’t given 8-10 examples for a student to use. I didn’t think to much of it. As I go to redo my assignment I read the instructions again to verify I knew what was expected in the assignment. Not once was there a mention that I needed to provide 8-10 examples for a student to practice. I had been graded on unwritten standards and expectations. When Thomas got back to me he was very helpful and provided a screenshot of the section I needed to review with the guidelines and extended my program to it’s original date. However, when he provided the screenshot it still had no mention of the 8-10 examples I needed to provide. Yet, I was still failed because TEFL has unclear and poorly written instructions. Within weeks this company zapped my potential love for teaching. I’m not saying it’s not worth it but this company is certainly not. I’m sure this is not everyone’s experience but mine has been horrible and that is a most generous definition of I can give.”

“My experience was a very positive one though I do have some minor gripes. Let’s start with the positive though, I think the grammar, methodology and teaching large classes course were incredibly well delivered, my tutor (Thomas) was an amazing resource and the discord has been a lifesaver and a massive comfort. On to my gripes, I could find next to no purpose in the video observation courses, the “what not to do” videos felt incredibly forced and unnatural to an almost comic extent. I also felt that the lesson on discipline was…odd. To speak for myself as a student, I would find it frustrating being in a class where everyone was getting timed out or had to give chips to be able to answer, it felt especially unnecessary with that class as there were no problem students to warrant extra measures in the first place. Frankly, It’d have to be quite bad for me to try such a thing with children, but to adults frankly seems baffling to me. My mother was in the room when I was doing this section and her layman’s perspective was the same as my own perspective when we talked after the fact. The online teaching module was so bare bones. Hardly any videos and the material was incredibly rushed. I know TEFL has the advanced course for Online teaching (which I do intend to take once I start working and can afford it.) but considering the lesson planning is entirely different it should have at least been covered more fully in the methodology course as a lot of individuals are in a situation where they can’t afford this and the specialized advanced course concurrently. I still feel prepared enough to teach online from the get go but I found the lack of sufficient material difficult to overcome in the final assignment. However, I feel like I now have the necessary tools to frankly achieve my dream career and for that reason I can’t justify giving this course any less than 5 stars. The mini modules just need a little working on, that’s all. TEFL Org has my highest gratitude and has my ongoing support and recommendation. I’ve already recommended it to one friend.”
