“This was a great program that provided a comprehensive overview of teaching English as a foreign language. It provided opportunities to put the knowledge to work by requiring lesson planning practice as well as lots of quizzes along the way.”

“Hello. I am enjoying and learning alot from the TEFL courses. I appreciate the various instructors and varied forms and styles of teaching, as the content is complicated and lengthy. Two areas that are of difficulty however. First: I live in the United States. I do not have access to either your TEFL store or to the recommended text books. I have tried to get past my computer firewalls that do not allow access to the TEFL shop site. Additionally, the TEFL recommended text books are not sold in the United States. (Sold on the UK Amazon platform, but not on the US Amazon platform.) I ordered a different text book offered in the US - not the TEFL-recommended textbook. I am concerned that this will not be the best grammar text book for my TEFL courses. However, it is expensive to have the recommended text book shipped from the UK to the US, and I won't have it on time with the faster pace that I am taking the courses. Second: I am a native speaker of English in the US and am coming across words and phrases that I have never seen. An example is: Learnt (UK) versus Learned (US). I understand that I must learn the UK form of words for international teaching, and I will; however, the content of the TEFL grammar course teaches that words that end in a constanant such as Learn have - Learned (past) - have/has Learned (past participle). I have not come across content showning that "Learnt" is an exception/irregular, or if it is slang. This difficulty is compounded with only having access to the TEFL grammar book sold here is the US may not address these words used in the UK, therefore leaving a gap in my learning. I would love your TEFL feedback and/or assistance on the above. Thank you for listening. I continue to be very excited to continue with my coursework. I really enjoy where the instructor states "dream big" in assignments for structuring sentences in future tense. I dream that I will be teaching english in a foreign country in the year from now, and I know with my hard work and use of the TEFL resources, that will happen. Regarding your two concerns: - Access to the TEFL Org Shop. We're sorry to hear you've had trouble accessing our online store and getting hold of the recommended grammar textbook. Unfortunately, we did have a system issue that took some time to fix but this has been resolved now. That said, you’re absolutely not at a disadvantage if you’re using an alternative grammar textbook. The course is designed to be self-contained, and the recommended book is just a supplement, not required reading. If the textbook you've chosen supports clear grammar explanations and includes examples and practice, it should serve you well alongside the course content. Regarding your other point on UK vs. US English differences - You’ve picked up on something really insightful here. “Learnt” and “learned” are both correct past forms of "learn," but "learnt" is more commonly used in British English, while "learned" is the standard in American English. It’s not slang - it's just a regional variation. We can absolutely appreciate how confusing this can be, especially if your grammar reference is US-focused. Although we do offer American English versions of some courses, our Level 5 courses are only offered in British English. The key thing to remember is that for international teaching, especially if you're aiming to work in Europe or Asia, it’s helpful to be familiar with both UK and US usage, but you’re not expected to "unlearn" your American English. Instead, think of it as broadening your teaching toolkit. You may even end up teaching both variants depending on your students’ needs! If you ever feel stuck or unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to your tutor - they’re there to support you every step of the way. Thank you again for your lovely words, and for sharing your dream. “The level 5 TEFL course is challenging and well-designed. The teachers are great and engaging. My tutor was fantastic. The units are presented logically, with short videos, slides, short quizzes, and study resources. The course is relatively self-paced. I truly enjoyed the experience.”

“All together the course was good and i learnt a lot that will help me but when your are doing telephone teaching course, it says things about Skype but Skype is shutting down very soon. I think it needs to be a little bit up to date”

“There were some typos in the course material + some areas weren't formatted correctly [e.g. some definitions/descriptions were placed in inncorrect or ambiguous sections, or sometimes a piece of text ended abruptly in the same was as when the maximum character/word limit has been reached. It...kind of felt like this was made either in a hurry or was made for some other digital format and then was haphazardly reformatted to fit this relatively new tefl.org online version. THAT ALL BEING SAID, if you're not as easily derailed by minor structure mishaps like that (*cough*cough* like I am)... the information is of high quality in a vacuum. I actually am neurodivergent myself, which is a large part of why I felt a strong need to complete this course. I just spent some extra time rewriting the course material by hand in a graph notebook I have. It helped a lot with retaining the abundance of information. Since the information genuinely taught me several things of which I was not prior aware, I rate this 4 stars. Minus one star for the typos and formatting confusion.”

“Did the 230 hour Level 5 course and was impressed by the amount of comprehensive information on each of the modules to help us with becoming TEFL tutors. I also attended the lesson course in London and really enjoyed the 3 days there with Simon. Very knowledgeable and overall the whole course helped me to understand what types of lessons I'd potentially be teaching as well as the layout overall. Definitely worth the time and effort.”

“On the whole I really enjoyed thhis course. Despite working in schools and supporting students with their English, I found the Methodology module pretty challenging. However, I have learnt so much about the theory of the English language. I liked the way the course was split into modules and it gave me a good flavour of the different types of students you may teach. My tutor responded quickly and provided positive and productive feedback on my assignments. I think my only suggestion would be to include an interactive module similar to attending a live course. I'm now looking forward to putting the knowldge into practise!”

“The course seems well structured and relevant for people who plan to seek teaching jobs working with perhaps the most common groups of students e.g., pre intermediate teenagers and young adults from literate European backgrounds. I plan to volunteer with refugees who are likely to be beginners with more challenging backgrounds and low literacy in their own languages and it was sometimes hard to see how I might adapt the TEFL course content to be more relevant. Maybe you could develop some more inclusive material or signpost people towards appropriate resources? The teaching methodology was generally good but some teacher's approaches seemed patronising (e.g., classroom management and recommended textbook 'Getting the buggers to behave'.) I think this is inappropriate for students who are autonomous adults. I understood when I signed up for an online course and the express version of the virtual classroom that there would inevitably be no/limited opportunities for teaching practice and I am happy that I got what I expected and think it was value for money. Having taught for 30 years, I think the virtual classroom tutor's statement at that we would all be able to teach 'anything to anybody' by the end of the weekend (!) was ill advised and could mislead people with less experience if the actual challenges. Maybe you could have a word with Elizabeth? She also suggested (I hope she was joking...) that if we were bored or struggling, we should NOT tell her. Hardly a great example of student centred education. However, all in all I'm glad I did this course. Thank you.”
