“I found the lesson and instructions clear and easy to follow. Interaction with students and teachers gave me an insight into what an international English class may look like. I loved the quizzes and the 70% pass expectation as you felt as though you had a chance to redeem yourself. I did have problems with some quizzes where the answers weren't saved and I scored low the first time around. A technical glitch perhaps. Other than that, I am grateful for the support from Joanna, especially when tackling the end-of-unit assignments. I have no hesitation in recommending this course. Thank you for my certificate. Thank you for the Webinars as they will be very helpful. Now onward and upward to better things. All the best. With much gratitude from New Zealand.”

“The only reason I'm giving this 4/5 and not 5/5 is because of the course about online teaching. It left some things to be desired. Most things are online now. It would have been great to spend more time gaining familiarity with that. I especially would have loved to have been able to participate in a couple of real/live online sessions where I could have acted as a student teacher or simply an observer. Another idea would be to allow us to teach a brief online lesson to someone, or to at least ask us if we would like that (I'm sure some people would prefer to pass haha, but I would have liked the opportunity). The only other criticism I have is about the part on "difficult" or disruptive students. As a former high school teacher, that part was a joke. If you want to prepare us for difficult students, we need to have much better examples of difficult students, not students who are great but may have misunderstood or forgotten the instructions. Thank you! If you like my ideas, then feel free to reach out and consider hiring me!”

“This was a well put together, straight forward course. I liked how interative it was with lots of quizzes and assignments to keep you on your toes along the way. “The course was comprehensive and beneficial. I liked the variety of topics and lesson methods. The classroom videos were also really helpful. However, I didn't like how the interaction went with my tutor. I felt like interacting with a robot. I also felt like my hours of work werent appreciated. I would suggest a video meeting between the tutor and students to make the experience better”

“Overall I enjoyed the course and found it helpful. The feedback on lessonplans helped my confidence tremendously. I did find the online section outdated. I believe these courses were recorded in 2017, and technology, and online communicatin especially, have changed since then. I was sceptical that the techniques and programs I was learning about were still being used. I also would have liked to have seen classroom content with more varied classes. Almost all examples were with the same group of people, the same age, and the same situation. I would have liked to have seen highschoolers, young children, a very large class, in general more variety. I also found the section about classroom management unhelpful. Seeing a staged video of studnets pretending to be disruptive and then immediately stopping after the teacher says something was unhelpful. I found the quizzes were helpful with staying engaged and retaining information.”

“The course (I took the 120 hour version) contains a great deal of valuable information. There are several points that might be considered in future versions: 1) in the grammar section, I believe the passive voice needs to be included. 2) in the phonology section, use of the phonemic symbols could be helpful, but there wasn't enough effort made to teach them or refer to places where we could learn them. Should we be teaching this alphabet to students? Unless, they are really linguistically inclined, I question the value of doing so. 3) a great deal of focus is placed on planning lessons. But I believe it would be quite useful to talk about the materials one is likely to encounter as a TEFL teacher. How do you plan lessons in the context of textbooks or other materials that may typically already be in use at the school? It seems to me that most schools will have developed a curriculum for teaching English and we would be expected to work within that framework. 4) I believe it would be useful to make weekly calls with the tutor a part of the course. 5) while no one likes to be bored, I found the constant emphasis on making lessons "fun" to be misplaced. Every effort should be made to engage the students, but I believe it is as important to focus on the motivation necessary to get students through those parts of the language such as learning irregular verbs which are unlikely to be fun. 6) I think it might be useful to include a two or three hour discussion or seminar on first steps towards finding a job as a part of the overall course.”

“The TEFL Org have created a good learning site with videos, quizzes and assignments online. It is a good way of trying something else alongside other jobs, to start and create something new for the future. The tutors could improve their way of feedback as I often felt mine was writing off a already written text, not replying to my questions nor giving me constructive feedback on how to improve.”

“I think the lessons were clear and well-informed. As a secondary English school teacher in the UK, I found the course especially helpful for revisiting grammar topics which I was able to teach to some of my own classes. I found it helpful that the course provided specific areas of teaching that I may not have considered e.g. teaching to large groups or online. However, I will say the reference to visual/kinesthetic learning was wholly inaccurate and outdated. Please revisit this topic using recent journals about how learners learn. As well-intentioned as it may sound, there is no such thing as an 'auditory' learner or any of the other senses because students use all their senses.”

“Overall I thought it was well laid-out. My feedback is that for the video segments, sometimes I found it distracting that the speakers were clearly reading off a teleprompter and they made it far too obvious. Also on the whole, all of the video classroom demonstrations were of a very high level of english language learners. In practice, the teaching I've done to language learners has been to speakers that are far more beginner. This rendered a lot of the TEFL activities challenging for me to replicate and I wish there was more content on how to communicate in VERY simple English to increase learners' chances at understanding. For reference, I'm currently teaching in Japan, and I have to use a lot of Japanese in the classroom to run games because otherwise the other teacher and the students won't know what's happening.”
