I have only had cause to use Start Rescue once since I joined, when I inadvertently lefdt a light on that drained my battery. I had not realised that Start Rescue "contract out" their services, and I found the contractor unfriendly and unsympathetic. However I don't do very much driving, Iand Start Rescue seems generally to be highly-rated, and the price is very competitive compoared to alternatives I looked at, so I hav stuck with it and will conntinue to do so.

I’ve been with start rescue for around 4 years and just renewed again. Fortunately I’ve never had to use them for a breakdown so I cannot comment on what their breakdown or recovery service is (hence why only 3 stars given). Regarding price they’ve always been excellent 3* cover which includes onward travel and home start came in at £67.08 this year for equivalent RAC cover taken out via my insurer at the time of insuring the vehicle was an additional £100. Yes I understand RAC & AA use their own staff whereas other breakdown agents such as Start Rescue use whomever is available but I didn’t consider that paying an extra 50% was worth it. I like the idea behind the app to report breakdowns as the last thing you want if you do breakdown, is to be waiting in a phone queue watching your phone battery deplete when you would probably sooner let friends and loved ones be aware of what has happened. So in a nutshell, good value and features but I cannot vouch for the quality of breakdown service as so far I haven’t needed to use it (fingers crossed 🤞 that continues).

The main selling point was how great value for money it was compared to the bigger boys, but unfortunately despite not making any call outs again this year, the cost has basically doubled. So any enthusiasm and good will is now gone.

Rewarding loyalty is something that is very important to us and we do so for every Start Rescue customer by automatically including savings in your renewal quote, meaning that renewing customers will never pay more than our standard website retail prices. Hello, Thank you for your feedback. We took the step last year to be more transparent to customers, with regards to the fees that we apply to policies. The arrangement and administration fee is for administering your policy and handling breakdown claims, instead of, or in addition to receiving commission from the insurer. We collect our fee within the same transaction, as we used to, but now detail our fee within the breakdown of the price you will pay. Okay as a default recovery provider but take too long to arrive, isn't all that well-set up for non smart phone users who prefer to chat, and the recovery providers do limited roadside repairs but seem keener to take you to nearest garage

Was not notified that the renewal would be taken out of my account. I would have cancelled the payment as no longer required. Start are excellent by the way. Just no longer needed

Hello John, We are sorry to hear that you were not aware that the payment for renewal would be taken, we do send communication to all customers 30 days ahead of the renewal due date to inform that renewal is due, and if on auto renewal, that the payment will be taken up to 2 days before the renewal due date. Rang them on the recommendation of my local garage as I was about to start a road trip round Scotland and needed peace of mind. The one thing I needed was the ability to continue on to my pre-booked accommodation and finish the trip. The one thing all breakdown companies don't do is allow you to complete a preplanned multi stop journey. However, they were very professional, no flannel and efficient. I agreed to their conditions and booked the annual cover in less than 10 minutes. Time will tell if they meet their obligations as I only started the trip today. In the evening of a breakdown, my options are to accept their return to home or have a rental vehicle for up to 72 hours which means I can do another three days and then recover my own car or abandon the remainder of the trip, forfeiting my accomodation costs. I am doing the NC500 and there is clearly a gap in the market for this type of cover as thousands of motorists undertake it each year either in their own cars, camper vans, motorhomes of with a caravan in tow. Look forward to your response.

on the last occasion I have had the need for your services, I found that although your initial response time very good, and was diagnosed quickly and that I needed a recovery wagon, this time was very, very poor, in as much has I did not get the correct wagon (first one was not big enough to take my vehicle) and that the second did not arrive until gone 11.00pm at night, I found this to be unnacceptable as you have my vehicle type on your records, it was also one of the coldest, wettest nights at that time. Previous to this your service has been very good.

I'v been with you for a number of years and not needed to call for any help. I am quite unhappy to find my premume has increast quite a bit £17,63. Just because both I and my car is a year older, Next year I will be looking else ware for a better deal. Unless you come up with a deal.
