“I was a bit sceptical to begin with but needed to do something to make headphones more usable as a mix option. After completing a first mix using the plugin I’ve actually been ultra surprised at how well that mix translates to all the different systems I’ve tested it on. I’m sold. Best purchase I’ve made to improve my mixing.”

“I purchased the headphone-only reference. I wasn't expecting much since I was taught to never use headphones to mix with. However, I am pleasantly surprised, they work as they are advertised. It takes a bit to adjust to it but I've been mixing all my tracks with headphones and seems to turn out well.”

“Sonarworks speaker and room correction has worked absolute wonders for my room. My gripe is that since I moved to SoundID Reference my old Studio Reference 4 software continues to start at startup of my iMac, even though I’ve taken the software out of the startup folder. Plus, when I asked how to uninstall the older software, I was asked why I would want to do that, as if to imply there was some reason to keep it. Very confusing and irritating.”

“I had trouble finding the necessary information on different versions of the software and the options to upgrade from one version to another. During cyber monday I was also interested in the calibration software for speakers, but unfortunately missed the sale by half a day.”

“I always have loved using Reference 4 for mixing, 100% necessary to get back to a flat EQ for mixing right! Sure it's a less pleasant sound at first than the one we are use to hear. But there is the point: not to get a wrong but pleasant impression! Mix, than take it out for rendering. Perfect in addition with CanOpener to correct the crossfeed missing on headphones... There has been a "before" and an "after" using it! Simple and to the point: get used to mix flat like on the NS10! Sound ID has a bit more options, not sure yet about it for the headphone version. The look of it is a bit more confusing than Reference 4 at first. I really would love to have it on the output of my mac constantly (for anything playing there) but it induces some latency that one doesn't get when put in the DAW. But all good. To install is pretty easy, to upgrade too. Thanks guys for your work!”

“Permits my mixes to translate more confidently to a wider variety of devices. Lets me use the tool most suited to the task at hand, and easily switch between those tools. It also allows me to tweak things within a limited range. Being able to adjust & compensate precisely for personal hearing peculiarities would be a valuable capability to add. SoundID Listen appears to be a relatively blunt tool for what I'd like to be able to do. Sonarworks' tutorials are video-based. I much prefer written material, and dislike having to wade through a 20-minute video to glean the 30-seconds-worth of information I need. That being said, the videos are usually comprehensive enough to be useful to someone unfamiliar with Sonarworks' products. Navigating the site is logical as long as you know what you're after and the name of the concept Sonarworks uses to describe it. As long as a product's benefit exceeds its cost I'll be interested in it. Sonarworks SoundID Reference is worth its cost.”

“A short and honest review. The software performs well and has huge benefits but it's a little bit difficult to write music because of the latency introduced. So a high-performance machine and audio IO is essential while using this software, Working on a Mid-2015 MBP I am struggling to write any music while using it because there are a lot of audio dropouts and a huge latency. (140ms). This can add up a lot to the overall latency. Performance-wise I like the calibration done when using a measurement microphone, don't like the available headphone presets so much. Tested on Audio Technica M50X, maybe others are better. Overall the software gives great advantages at a cost.”

“I think it would be a great help if the set-up videos were much further in-depth. I still can't get system-wide to work and play nicely with Cubase 11 Pro and a Steinberg UR28M interface on a Win 10 machine. I've had to just give up on using system-wide and use Sound ID Reference only in Cubase's Control room as plug-ins.”

“I am really enjoying Sonarworks and the new features are great. The only thing I would say is it is a bit buggy at the moment and I have to close and open the program any time I start loading the computer up with tasks. I definitely recommend it and it helps my mixing a lot. Looking forward to updates in the future to iron out some of the kinks.”

“Very impressed with the difference. however, I purchased this and obviously SoundID as it is required just the other day and now it has gone on special for Black Friday so it would be much appreciated if I got refunded the discount percentage for SoundID considering the fact I have forked out 968.14 Australian Dollars at this point. Cheers, love what you guys are doing.”

“This program is great! It needs fixes for compatibility with Motu interfaces, but the issues have been acknowledged at least, so hopefully, those get ironed out. Other than that, the only reason this doesn't have 5 stars is that I cannot use this program as a straight EQ. If there was a flat EQ profile that I could then edit and add my own EQ curves for, this would be the end-all, be-all product. I have certain headphones that aren't currently supported and having that feature would let me get the most out of this program for those headphones.”

“Mixing music with headphones goes very well with Reference ID. Much more transparrency and neutral sound, so easier to mix and master. One drawback is that the Windows driver adds 50ms latency (on Focusrite USB/Scarlett), even if disabled. Bad for gaming. So I had to uninstall the Windows driver. Would be good if the "disable", button really gets it from the audio path. Another drawback is that the plugin draws two times (!!) 2.5% CPU power on my Intel i7. That's another reason to uninstall the Windows driver. One bug is: if used with my Cubase 9.0, then it crashes if it is the first plugin that I enable. Maybe this can be fixed.”

“It's to pricey. And the fact of making you pay another license for getting SoundID is a joke. The EDU license is on one device, wich sucks. Appart from that, i can't really live without that piece of software.”
