We deal with large amounts of goods on a daily basis via our physical stores, established mail order website www.rimmersmusic.co.uk and dedicated education sales division with education catalogue (distributed to over 26,000 schools and Music Services all over the country).

Via these couriers we give tracking information for timed delivery slots (in most cases). We also sell specialist items that require an additional level of delivery service, items such as acoustic upright or grand pianos. These specialist delivery items are delivered by our trained team of experts who know how to handle items of this nature, are fully insured, professional and give our customers the installation with the care and attention they deserve.

We have established Rimmers Music Schools at each of our branches with hundreds of satisfied students of all age groups from 5 years old to 95 years old. We are also London College of Music and Rock School examination centres (and are highly respected by both), although taking exams is optional. I purchased a Roland FP-10 piano which I am very pleased with. The website was easy to navigate and placing and paying for the product simple. I placed my order early evening on a Wednesday so didn’t expect delivery until Friday, but I received no notification of delivery so called and spoke to James who was helpful. I was out Friday morning for a while and was waiting for information on delivery time, when I arrived home between 11:00 and 11:30 am the piano and stand had been delivered and left outside my door which I was very surprised by and had no notification from the carrier so don’t know who they were. I was glad they had been delivered and were safe but was not happy with the lack of communication.

The piano received (Yamaha c845) is beautiful. The customer service from Rimmers was ok but the delivery service was misleading and really let the whole thing down. Next day delivery was in fact 3 days with no notification of the delay (so much wasted time waiting at home for the delivery). Then the piano was left in the middle of our driveway with no notification that it was there and no assistance getting it to our door. The delivery arrangements are made by Rimmers so there has to be some responsibility there and no attempt was made by them to make up for our wasted time, the disappointment of the delay (missed birthday) and additional effort to move the piano into place. I hope this process is reviewed.

Hi We are sorry that the delivery took longer than we would hope. Most deliveries using the boxed delivery courier are delivered on the next working day. However sometimes there can be delays, particularly with larger items as they can be more logistically difficult. The piano should absolutely not have been left un attended and we have reported this to our courier partner to look into, as this is not acceptable to us. We do suggest if an item is for a special occassion that you select our deliver and build service which allows a timed delivery ( you can pick a date) and they will put the piano into place, build it and take away the packing. There is an extra charge for doing this. We are limited with regard to choice for couriers who carry such large items unfortunately, but we do feel we have the best possible solution for the cost. Kerbside delivery only for a 100 kg package isn’t really good enough when you’re spending a lot of money on an instrument. Not only that, the courier TNT only had one delivery driver so I had to help him out the van with it.

Contact was difficult - no answer to telephone call and no return call until too late to buy for next day delivery and then no answer again when responding to message - so only bought one guitar (gs mini +) but realy wanted info/availabily to try and buy taylor 812. Great delivery service but poor telephone contact disappointing.

We also have a customer service email address that is responded to really quickly, within 24 hrs as absolute max depending on the time of day. I guess this is a tough one. The guitar was great although the pick guard is a little scratched which I didn’t expect from a new guitar. RM dispatched it quickly but the biggest issue I had was with TNT making it very difficult to get it as they don’t give tracking info and expect you to wait in til 6pm or take the day off work. I waited in for them to not knock the door. They said they left a card but didn’t and I ended up having to drive 90 mins the next day to collect from a distribution centre. For that reason I wouldn’t use RM again. Ditch TNT and I’d reconsider using RM but until then.

I ordered a Kawai CA701 and delivery was quoted as next day. I tracked the order through the TNT system and was disturbed to note that the piano had been returned to store ‘at the customers request’. This was disappointing and I ‘phoned Rimmers to report the issue, requesting a callback. Needless to say, in line with numerous instances of customers complaining that no callback had been received, my request was ignored. I received an email from Rimmers the following day apologising for the non-delivery advising that the carton had been incorrectly routed and sent to the wrong distribution centre. Whether this was in response to my ‘phone call or alternatively, following a non-delivery report from TNT is unclear. The carton arrived the following day on a wooden pallet and I noted that the carton had been placed upside down inspire of clear markings on the carton advising orientation. Luckily, the piano survived the ordeal and arrived in perfect working order. I reported this back to Rimmers and their response indicated that the carton had been passed to TNT the correct way up. I could only assume that rather than lift the carton onto the pallet, it had been rolled on hence it arriving upside down. I have just received a an email from Rimmers requesting a positive review with the caveat that if there had been a problem, they would rather deal with any issues by email rather than me post a negative review. In my opinion, this is completely underhand. You asked for a review so here it is - warts an’ all. So there you have it: 1 point deducted for the delivery issues and another point deducted for the review request. It could be argued that the delivery issues were not directly attributable to Rimmers, but the customer has no control over who Rimmers select to mis-handle their consignments. Perhaps Rimmers need to review their choice of courier and they certainly need to abandon the ‘callback’ approach. Why can’t customers speak directly to Customer Services?

Hi I have just tried to call you but haven't managed to reach you. I'm sorry to hear that you piano was mis-routed. This does happen from time to time and is frustrating for us and our customers. We did contact you via email to update you of the situation with the courier and apologised for the delay - which was out of our control. We have a very limited choice of courier for these larger items in order to offer the most competitive prices. We do offer a specialist 2 man delivery service for an additional charge that means you can specify your day and time for delivery. This would also ensure the piano is kept in its correct position, rather than it going through a huge courier network and risking as you point out it being turned over in transit. We are perfectly happy to say please let us deal with any problems as we would like the chance to do so, but if the customer would prefer not to give us that opportunity before writing a review on different platforms, that is their choice. You refer to numerous reviews saying we don't call back... I can see x2 instances on this page where customers have said that. I do know after having personally dealt with one of those 2 customers has since purchased from us as we went out of our way to try and find out why we hadn't got in touch with him as we couldn't understand why that had happened. Customer service is of the utmost importance to us and we have numerous people and reviews who we have called back and responded to emails from. If we don't we may as well all go home and not advertise our company any further as a supplier of musical instruments. In closing we have just ordered a new phone system which means customers will have the ability to call and speak to one of our staff, which is something we always did in the past. Following the changes that covid brought, we were unable to man the phones; however we now can again and see that as another improvement to customer service. I gave a 3 star only because the company knows about the issues with tnt not delivering on time but they continue to use them. TNT claim to deliver my pkg even though my two cameras showed no one visited. TNT does that once they figure they’ll miss their deadline.

Hi We are limited with regard to the couriers that we can use for larger items unfortunately as other music retailers are too. We are aware that TNT don't always offer the service we would like. The alternative would be for you to pay for a 2 man timed delivery which would cost and additional £150, Regards Cathy

The experience could have been better. I had to wait 2/3 hours to have my phone question answered about payment by BACS. The information provided then proved to be wrong requiring further contact with Rimmers. The delivery, however, was prompt and communication about the delivery was comprehensive.

Ordered a 5 string banjo gig bag which arrived on time and was a good product. Unfortunately Rimmers sent the wrong size and had sold out of the size required. Returning it was quite easy and a refund was eventually sent to my account. Suggest better checking procedures

Great customer service; however due to the limited post-COVID stock, items may have not been accurately shown. We originally expected immediate stock for a piano but running out of stock our piano had indeed been not available prior to our purchase which is shown available in the next working day or week. One month later, the pianos arrived the central warehouse of Rimmers BUT we still cannot have the right one - mostly because of the, quite frustratingly, limited stock. More work should be done to really check which stock IS 100% in stock, every day, or which MAY run out of stock soon - the waiting time can also be a huge cost to some customers.

Hi We're sorry to hear you are disappointed. When you placed your order in Sept, according to the information on our system, the stock showed as due in Oct. We updated you during the 1st week of Oct to advise the stock was expected at the end of Oct. We then dispatched your order on the 8th Nov, which was slightly later than anticipated. The item (Roland TB-03), the price and the free next day delivery is excellent. However the same can't be said for postage care. The Roland TB-03 box was merely placed in a postal bag, which has resulted in the box getting slightly beaten up round the edges. This may seem trivial to some, but If the item is new then the official packaging should also reflect that. The box could have at least been bubble wrapped before being placed in a postal bag.
