“When my external hard drive stopped working suddenly with important data potentially lost, I contacted R3 Recovery. Hi Anthony Those Western Digital WD2500JB-22REA0 250GB drives are actually quite reliable and it appears there had been an overvoltage. Paul our electronics rework specialist was able to find a suitable donor PCB and swap the ROM information. Additionally there had been a head crash during the failure but we were able to complete the recovery with just a very few unread sectors without the need for a rebuild. Enquiry for Data Recovery "I have a western digital external hard drive since 2009 and the drive is no longer working. My computer does not recognise it and I cannot access the data. An IT person at work has suggested that I use a data recovery company to recover the data from the drive and store on a new hard drive. Please advise. Thank you"

“I retired 3 years ago, the company I worked for contacted me with a problem with a machine I made in the 1990's. The machine used a PLC to control it. As the machine had not been use for several years the back up battery had failed so the PLC needed to be reprogrammed. To My horror I discovered that the PC I used to program the PLC's had been dumped together with backups, cables, and software dongle. We managed to find the original soft wear disks but they are 5 1/4 inch floppies and old dos computers available. I managed to get a computer to run in dos only but no 5 ¼ inch drive. After contacting several data recover companies they could not help retrieve the data off the 3 floppies. That is until I contacted R3 Data Recovery these people really know what their doing they kept me well informed of their progress and within a week had recovered all the data of the floppies and at worthwhile reasonable cost. I highly recommend R3 Data Recovery they really helped my old company out of a major problem.”

R3 Data Recovery Enquiry "When used as system disk it gets to blue splash screen before user logon but never loads anything else. Drive placed in the second computer and can not be accessed from dos, is visible in windows explorer but when you try and access it does nothing."

Many thanks for the review Fortunately the drive had only one unreadable sector out of the 19,000 which were preventing the drive being accessed normally. This meant that the 125Gb of data was recovered from the Seagate ST9320423AS 320GB drive at the quoted budget service price of £199+vat without the need of donor parts / rebuild. “Having broken my memory stick in two, I thought the stored data would be irretrievable, but did a web search for data recovery companies on the off chance that something could be done. I emailed R3 Data Recovery with details of the damage and they responded within a day asking for an image of the broken device. They advised of retrieval costs, quoting two prices and explaining the correlation between price and work required for the successful retrieval of data. I sent my device to R3 and within a day received confirmation that the data had been successfully retrieved at the lower price. I was really impressed with the service provided by R3 and with the integrity with which they operate their business. “Our organisation had a mechanical failure on one of our external hard drives. We were pleasantly surprised with the knowledge about the recovery process. Our organisation decided to use this company to have our data recovered. R3 even sent out a private hire organisation to collect the hard drive. A very nice gesture. Our organisation staff's was treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. Data was recovered very quickly and efficiently. All the way through we were told what the progress was of the recovery. Would use again in the worst case scenario. This company should be noted in any companies contingency plans. “I hadd an old Apple computer which "died" after a power failure in our village for 10 hours. I had some very precious photos, etc. on the computer and urgently needed data recovery. We took the computer to our local company who tried very hard but were unable to recover the data. The total cost of £199+vat was on the budget service, it included, recovery of the bad sectors caused by the abrubt power outages in your village, transfer of the recovered data to your own new drive and courier return. “Very good service on the whole, communication could perhaps be better, other than that no frustrations. Hard drive and it's contents nearly completely recovered, so it was successful. Given that my data was entirely music and domestic jpegs does lead me to wonder if a tier of "light security" might be possible and therefore result in a cheaper "domestic" service.”

Hi Peter It is a valid point you make but one that is already built into the pricing to enable domestic users to access the best success rates is part of remit and helps us see and find solutions for more drives than any other lab in the UK. Many cases such as yours benefit from the R&D and resources built by our company and by the R3 team of industry leading data recovery engineers who go that extra mile wherever possible. The total cost of the rebuild, recovery, donor drive, clean room, strip down and reassembly, initialisation, imaging, data transfer, data validation, courier collection and return and storage of a secure copy of your data for up to 10 working days has a base cost for which you were originally quoted and ultimately charged at £399+vat plus the cost of a new 1TB drive for the recovered data. W took the risk that only one donor would be needed, there are some cases where the donor is destroyed and we bear that cost if we already have the donor in our stock. Whilst we work very cost effectively and at a very competitive all inclusive price it must be to a set procedure to maintain efficiency, security and throughput of the lab. The Security House lab is already one of the most efficient, successful and reputable labs ever built in the UK, it is not perfect and still is being developed and refined but is built to do what some of our competitors cannot. During the period of your case we were actually held back by a true disaster recovery case which meant we were at full stretch and this did mean that although it was our best month of work it was not as productive as it could have been, two of our engineers and their equipment was allocated to a highly demanding engagement which did affect our communications for some clients. During July and August further refinements are planned which will give us the ability to handle such peak demands more easily but be assured the cost we charged was very competitive for the work undertaken. Hi Ian It was certainly a well timed one, from the Friday lunchtime call, to getting our Scottish based head of sales to pick up the drive at the ferry port that afternoon, and then drive it straight to the lab in Sheffield for commencement that night despite galeforce winds was the first part of the hurdle. Hi Simon Glad you were happy with the recovery, the RAID 5 configuration actually helped save the data because despite 3 of 4 drives being affected by the power problems the WD 2TB drives were sufficiently robust to not fail mechanically. The head crashes / surface damage whilst causing bad sectors was not enough to prevent the drives being read in a few days and so kept the cost of recovery down to the lower end of the initial estimate. Almost all the data was in perfect condition, this is possibly in part also thanks to the fact that less than 20% of the 5.84 TB volume was actually used. Hi Alan Yes the price we quote is the price we should be able to doa recovery for providing there has been no significant damage to the platters. In your case it was a degraded drive with bad sectors and the budget service of £239+vat at that time included a 1tb portable drive and the collection and return.
