“Although a list of potential surveyors were provided I was immediately inundated with emails and calls from the companies. As we've just started the buying process it's too soon, further down the line this level of contact would be useful but not just yet. I wasn't aware my email and phone number would be shared with all these companies.”

“Helpful service, but far too many advertising and follow-up emails - a single email summarising the available surveys and costs with the ability to request a final quotation from chosen providers would be far more helpful, rather than permitting each provider to contact individually.”

“Used the directory to identify a local tradesperson but when appt made, it seems that the engineer is not local at all and needs to come from far away so I am not sure why the website needs you to put a postcode in to identify those in the locality??”

“I found a Surveyor like previous review about this company we are using their prices are old and charged us more. I do think more needs to be done to make sure all companies are transparent with fees.”

“Disappointed that my email address and telephone number were given to the surveyors. I was expecting this not to happen and not to get bombarded with requests for work, but that I would contact my chosen surveyor”

“Thought that the quote system was fine; but pretty unimpressed with the quotes provided for a valuation survey, which ranged from £150 to £400. It would be good to add a price cap, and exact value figure for quote”

“Had a cold call immediately after entering details from someone who didn't even do what I needed doing. Not impressed! Did get some useful contacts reason for ( 3☆ ) just not the one that phoned me.”

“Requested estimates for a detached house probate valuation. Received several suggestions with estimated prices. One company was mentioned twice with two different prices, one of which was the lowest. Asked them for a quote and received a price 70% higher than the site had suggested which does not engender trust in either this site nor the surveyors. Other surveyor quotes were identical to the Surveyors Direct estimate. This suggests that Surveyors Direct need to police their client surveyors much more closely.”

“+ I got a better price than I was quoted by the mortgage broker or estate agent referrals Found a surveyor who is local to the area and I'm hoping to get a good service from - I was bombarded by emails and even call, I think it should be made more clear how my data will be used and who it will be passed to. Hence the lower rating”

“While I can see the value of this service, I was overwhelmed by emails, phone calls, voicemails and even text messages within seconds of requesting the comparison. Buying a property can be stressful and I found this hard-sell to be a bit much, on top of everything else. One email from LSD summarising the best options available would be preferable. Having said that, I did choose a surveyor based on the recommendations that came from LSD. So in that respect, it was a useful website. If I were to recommend it to a friend I would warn them to turn off their phone and then go back through all the quotes in their own time.”

“The results came through pretty quick on a pricing table which was easy to compare. The results showed eight companies mostly based in the area we are buying, some obviously not as one said they would have a surveyor in that area in 2 weeks time, another was 44 miles away. Five companies quoted ranging from £550-680 which was reasonable and these all followed up with e-mails. Two of which offered to lower their quote £55 and £100. A lot of the companies attached pdf examples of different surveys or gave links, so this was very informative. The other three companies were in the top bracket at £760-900, did not follow up with e-mails bar one who promised to drop their price to match the most competitive, and at a saving £345 I suspect these quotes were over-inflated. On the whole I was happy with the speed of the surveys and the follow up e-mails, but think they should reflect an accurate price initially and not re-adjust after they have seen their competitors quotes. One of the companies became problematic by e-mailing daily, asking us to contact them to take them off their list. I thought the search would bring up more local surveyors and as the one company was 44 miles away, I wondered if not having that local area knowledge such as green belt, flooding, mining etc would have a bearing on the survey.”
