The Hearingaid.org.uk website is full of useful and practical information. The consumer guide adds even more advice. Together they have helped me become much better informed and in a position to make better decisions regarding hearing aids and audiologists.

I have had the hearing device for seven months. As a "middleman" you did a good job in connecting me to a local practitioner. He and she were attentive and helpful, I couldn't and didn't, ask for more. The hearing aid itself is better than I could get on the NHS but it isn't perfect. It does allow me to join-in two and three-way conversations that I had stopped trying to do. The device does more than I want or need. I am 84 and male. A disappointing choice on the "menu" is the "Rain" function; it doesn't diminish the sound, it increases it to gale force ten that drowns-out all else. The restaurant setting doesn't reduce the background noise. Impact noises are magnified out of proportion; I will hear a pin drop but not hear a quiet voice. It make what was impossible, possible but it isn't the real thing. That is something gone for ever methinks. This is, currently, the next best thing.

Was put in touch with an audiologist who supposedly had a Bristol clinic. When he got in touch he told me he no longer had a clinic or any premises in Bristol. He said he had informed hearing aid numerous times over the last couple of years that he no longer had a Bristol office, but they continued to refer people.

Very helpful be site followed by a telephone call with Bev that explained a lot of the issues that concerned me. The interview was arranged quickly and I met the Audiologist within a couple of days at my home. He was very helpful and efficient and I have placed an order. I await the fitting.

After reading the really promising consumer guide I attempted to have a session with one of the audiologists. There was no local audiologist in the Eastbourne area and so after a while I was contacted for a home visit to take place the following week. Ten minutes before my home appointment was due to take place it was cancelled (for personal reasons) and apparently their audiologist covering my area is now not able to take on new customers until 2024. The alternative offered was over an hours drive away. I may just have been unlucky, and I totally understand that somebody may be unavailable at short notice, but it appears that Hearing Aid UK just do not have enough practices signed up to provide the coverage and ongoing support they claim will be available from them.

We are sorry that we were unable to assist you with your hearing. As you say, the audiologist was indeed called home when he was almost at your appointment and this must have been very inconvenient for you. As his stepdaughter was badly hurt and will require some care, he decided that he would not take on any new customers before Christmas, which I agree does mean it would have been 2024 before you were seen. However, regarding coverage, you are incorrect. This audiologist is in the Brighton area, about 20 miles away, which is a normal and reasonable distance for them to support. We cover 98% of the country but there are a few areas we don't reach - If any good independent audiologists in Margate or Mablethorple are reading this, get in touch!
