Hi Craig, so sorry to hear that! It's always disappointing to hear when it doesn't work out for someone. We do continuously work on our products and services in order to keep improving them, so it's always good to know what does and doesn't work out for our members. In terms of shaving techniques, we always recommend showering before shaving as this softens the hair making it much easier to achieve a smooth shave, without irritating the skin. Using a face scrub pre shave helps too as this will lift the hairs making it easier to get a really close shave. Plus it also helps with eliminating those pesky in-grown hairs. It might be worth trying it out with these techniques if you've not already done so. We're just sorry to hear that we couldn't improve the quality of your shave!

“I have to say I was initially quite sceptical and it took me a while to place my first order. It's not the most well known company, so it's always a little hard to know whether it's actually any good but having finally gone ahead with my order and receiving the box within a couple of days of ordering it, I have to say the company and product offering is rather good. Although not the cheapest, everything is of high quality and the fast home delivery is an added bonus. After 10 years of shaving with various razors, the Cornerstone razor has given me the closest shave- would highly recommend giving them a go.”

“Like other reviews I've read, the blades are nice, but the rear blade is a sorry omission. I like the lightweight handle, it's a good length and nicely balanced,this is very welcome. I didn't order any shave gel etc as I've loads kicking around from my double edge shaving days,but the blades cope nicely with a heavier shave foam. Overall I like the blades, if the rear blade could be added I would be very happy. The blades are on the expensive ish side at £14 for 6,the Fusion blades I'm using are cheaper. However, I'd happily pay a bit more to break Gillette's grip on my shaving,but only if it's comparable (i.e if there was a rear blade). I really hope this is something that can be sorted with suppliers. The postage to your door is very good and was very prompt after my order, the service thus far has been great. So if the cost of the blades could be trimmed slightly, with the addition of a rear blade, you'd have a lifelong customer. I'll keep an eye on your site and hopefully you can do something in the future, or if you keep in touch via email updates. I would really love to support your company as the service has been 1st class.”

Hi Lee, many thanks for your review, glad you liked the razor. We hear you on the rear blade- we're actually already working on it with our German partners, so we should have these available for you in a few months. With regards to price- we're on par with the Gillette Fusion manual, but we are significantly cheaper than the Fusion power. We also offer a free initialled handle and free postage so overall we do think it's pretty good value :)

“Well this product had a lot to live up to considering previous reviews... Personally I really like the concept but as previous reviewers have said it just falls short on delivery. . 1. The pre shave scrub as previously mentioned is a bit thin...and seems to go everywhere...I previously used origins and found this a far superior product. However the origins scrub is a bit more costly. 2. Shave gel is o.k personally I prefer shave cream rather than gel as it seems to soften my facial hair and i get a lot less abrasion better for when I shave...again I really rate the origins product for this...I guess it is down to personal preference. Though id have concerns that a cream may clog up the blades. 3. The blades....I do have quite tough facial hair but id shaved 2 days before I received my cornerstone box....The blades were o.k. but left patches which I had to redo a couple of times before they removed my stubble...which isn't great and the shave felt quite abrasive I don't know if that is the fault of the blades or gel. So far my best shave has been with a wilkinson razor with 4 blades from memory. So id say its on par with a gillette razor. 4. Post shave balm was good and felt quite refreshing similar sensation to when you have an airwave though I now need to moisturise as my skin feels quite tight. 5. Really really like the handle. All in all I might be being harsh as I set the bar quite high for this product. It is good VFM and delivery was prompt from placing my order. The products wern't up to the mark of my current origins ones which is a shame as they would work out a lot cheaper and less hassle. I was desperate for these blades to better those previously used but was not my experience...Does anyone have a recommendation for a really good razor? I don't mind what the cost just want it to be close and not abrasive! All in all i would recommend others to try as they may get on with it and i hope the company goes from strength to strength :-) I may re-try at a later date if changes are made..”

Hi Nick- thanks for your review and sorry you didn't get on with our razors. We know what you mean about the scrub, we're actually working on a new, thicker formula which should be available in a couple of month's time. With regards to the shave gel, we developed this with British dermatologists but we do understand it's not to everyone's personal taste. For thick stubble we do tend to find that you need to make a couple of passes with the razor, but showering and using the face scrub beforehand does help to soften and lift the hair, making the shave a little easier and more effective. We're really happy you like the handle. We have thousands of happy members, so I guess there is an element of personal taste here, but sadly we'll never be able to please everyone unfortunately. That said, we are a small startup team and will continue to work super hard to keep improving our product range - we're aiming for complete satisfaction and always want to be on the side of the customer. Sorry it didn't work out- we're sorry to see you go.

“Right, I just wanted to say that I have had problems with shaving for years (25 years to be exact) and this product came along and I am thoroughly impressed. I love the way I can order what I need, when I need it and the price, although not cheap, is competitive. I get my stuff in the mail. Now about the shave, if you follow the directions and apply the gels etc. you can shave everyday. I have not been able to do that for years! And now I can.”

“Having used Cornerstone for the past 4 weeks I thought it was time to review. Overall I have been more than impressed by the product - the blades stay sharp for the entire week before being replaced and the gel and balm are as good as anything I have used on the high street. I will be recommending to my friends for sure.”

“I've just had to cancel my Cornerstone "shave plan" as I'm emigrating and they don't deliver to Singapore, but I just wanted to leave a very positive thumbs up as I like to support British startups!! I've suffered with shaving rash and skin problems for years, until I started using these guys, so well done - it's just a shame you can't keep sending me the stuff!!”

“I've only had one Cornerstone box - with everything in it - and if you want the summary, I'll say that I recommend all the stuff (with a few caveats) and you should try it. Individually, the products : - Pre-shave scrub : It's really good, but too thin. I'd prefer a thicker product (I end up using more than is probably necessary). - Shaving gel : this stuff is great. 5 stars, no hesitation. - The razor - doesn't seem to shave as well, or as closely, as my Gillette ProGlide. Not that it's a bad razor - it's just that it doesn't feel quite as close. - The post-shave balm : It's a bit greasy, I don't like the smell, but honestly, as someone who suffers with blotchy sensitive skin after shaving, this stuff gets 5 stars all the way. It doesn't dry my face, it feels great, I can't rate it highly enough. So aside from a couple of little imperfections, and considering the price, I would almost certainly use all the products again. Sure, Clinique for Men is probably better in every way - I am a huge fan of the shaving cream / foam stuff, the face scrub and the after-shave balm - but when I think about how good the Cornerstone products are and consider their price, well, no-brainer really. For me, to get a 5-star review, I'd like a different razor blade, a thicker scrub and a less greasy balm. As it is though, I will be a repeat customer nonetheless.”

We're obsessive about constantly improving our offering, so we've taken your comments on board and will bear them in mind. With the scrub in particular, we're working on a thicker version at the moment, which will make it more similar to the Clinique product actually, so we'll keep you posted!

“Must say I was highly sceptical of Cornerstone - how can a small startup beat a massive company like Gillette that's been around for years and years!! However, I must say that the shave can't be beaten. The handle does take a little bit of getting used to - the razor head is slightly different to what I've used in the past, but after the second shave I had completely mastered it and have been reaping the benefits ever since. Haven't tried the scrub wash, shave foam and moisutrizer yet, but I'll probably add them to my next box - if they're anything like the razor then I'm in for a pleasant surprise!! Cheers.”

“Brilliant! I had experienced so many problems with shaving until I started using Cornerstone products. With this razor I've been getting a close shave without the usual irritation. The face scrub has not only helped with shaving but also made my skin much clearer too. I would've given 5 stars but nothing in this world is perfect. Thanks!”

“I saw the ad and liked the concept and was pleased with the handle which I really liked and the personalised touch is great. The actual shave was ok but the shaving angle was a little awkward and didn't feel the blades were flexible enough. The overall shave was no way near as good as my Gillette pro glide and the absence of a trimmer blade is also a negative. The wash is quite messy in my white sink but not bad in general. Good concept but at this price I can't carry on. Give me this handle to fit my Gillette pro glide blades and that would be awesome.”

Hi Dan, thanks for your comments, and sorry you didn't get on with our razors. We agree about the absence of the trimmer blade - this is something we're working on with our German partners. By the 'wash' we assume you mean the Pre-Shave Scrub - as mentioned in your welcome pack, we'd suggest you use this in the shower - that 's where it's most effective (because it's warmer, your skin's pores are open) so that helps avoid any mess. We have thousands of happy members, so I guess there is an element of personal taste here - plenty of people swear by our blades and throw their Gillette straight in the bin after their first Cornerstone shave, but sadly we'll never be able to please everyone unfortunately. That said, we are a small startup team and will continue to work super hard to keep improving our product range - we're aiming for complete satisfaction and always want to be on the side of the customer. Sorry it didn't work out - we're sad to see you go.

“Been using the products for 6 months now-shave matches any other products I've used in the past but is cheaper, more convenient and the razor is personalised! Absolute win. The post shave balm/moisturiser also smells delicious!”

“It appears I'm in the minority here but I'm not overly impressed by the product for a number of reasons - first of all the razor handle itself - it's made of aluminium so is pretty light and as a result it feels a bit cheap. The initials thing is a nice touch but would probably be more at home on a higher quality product. Secondly, the blades themselves. In days gone by we had 2 blades, then 3, then 4 and now 5. Those 5 blades have to fit into a pretty tight space and as a result the gap between each blade is rather small. I've tried a number of different 5 blade razors now and I just can't seem to shave without the blades feeling like they are dragging the hairs out rather then cutting them off - it's not a pleasant sensation. While there's no danger of cutting yourself with this razor, it did leave me with a bit of razor burn which is something I've not experienced before with any other blade. Onto the Facewash and it's not that bad, but a tad watery for my liking and would benefit from an added foaming agent to give a cleaner feel when you rinse it off. The shave gel itself is good and I've got no complaints about it, it smells good and provides just the right amount of lubrication for a close shave. As for the post shave balm, initially it's a nice, soothing product and smells great, but I found that it left my face looking a bit shiny and oily after a few hours. I normally moisturise with a Kiehls product, and while it's probably double or even triple the cost of this stuff, I never have the problem of a shiny face even 10-12 hours later. So all in all I'm going to have to give this 3 stars for which I apologise - it's a good concept but just falls short on delivery. Regrettably, I won't be continuing with my subscription.”

Hi Mike, thanks so much for your review and sorry we weren't able to improve your shave. You may well be in the minority but that's completely OK - we are just very lucky to have a super engaged and vocal membership who are happy to sing our praises, we still like to hear from people who haven't quite got on as well. In response to your points, we purposely designed our handle to be lightweight - it's a shame you'd prefer it to be heavier, but we understand. Regards the blades, it sounds like you haven't got on with any 5 blade razor you've tried which is completely fair enough - they're not for everyone. That said, you shouldn't have got any razor burn from ours - the blades are sharp, there is a moisturising strip and the head is flexible, it could just be a case of getting used to the hinge v pivot head on our razor, showering before you shave and making sure you take short, gentle strokes with the direction of hair growth - as per the perfect shave guide in your welcome pack. On the Pre-Shave Scrub, we know where you're coming from on this - we're reworking the product to make it ever so slightly more viscous. That said, lots of our members do swear by it in its current form. Good news that you like the Shave Gel - we spent ages on the smell! As you'll have gathered, it's designed to protect your face rather than produce a huge fluffy cloud on your face! Sorry to hear that you had slightly oily skin after using the Post-Shave Balm - as you'll appreciate, everyone has different skin that reacts differently to new products so it sounds like your skin prefers the Kiehl's product (which is great by the way). When we speak to our members, this is actually their favourite of the three skincare products, so I guess you were unlucky in how your face's oil balance slightly over-reacted - this isn't usually the case from what we can tell. It's a shame to see you go, but we totally understand - it sounds like Cornerstone wasn't for you. As a small start-up team we are determined to be 100% on the customer's side and we're committed to working hard to make our products the best they can be - we'll keep plugging away with our dermatologists and engineers and will take all of your feedback on board. “Great idea and excellent products. I would say that razors are better and last longer than anything Gillette or Wilkinson's make. The pre-shave scrub is pretty grand as well!”

“Great product all round - a really close shave coupled with a nice soothing balm! The subscription model works brilliantly for me - it's actually really flexible since I can pause my next delivery if I haven't used up my last set of blades in time.”
