About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I've been a member for nearly 30 years,but it does have a number of faults. I have noticed a decline in the cleanliness of the ladies changing rooms and the gym also members are now leaving there sports bags and coats in the gym whilst using the apparatus.”

“Alot of decent gym equipment has been removed Plus seems alot out if order and not fixed So limited on cable machines I like to use”

“Can only comment on pool. Very clean. Helpful friendly staff. Bars of steps into pool sometimes a bit slipperly. Makes me nervous as have painful knee and Achilles, so pull quite hard on them to get out. Perhaps wipe with degreaser more often. Would welcome a mechanical way of rinsing swim costume (arthritic hands) but realise probably too dangerous to have such a contraption as could entrap hand. Not a big thing to rinse at home. Shower starts luke warm, goes cold and then rather too hot. Wish people were not allowed to swim backwards as they push me under when they go into me and I am not a very good swimmer. Cleanliness and staff outweigh these minor complaints.”

“I generally use the centre for swimming sessions in the mornings. No-one seems to shower before they get in the pool anymore - probably not helped by the fact that the sign near the showers is in Welsh. The changing rooms are generally clean now and they have improved more recently. The cost of the membership is so high, I don't consider the already ageing and grubby facilities value for money. The issue in Bridgend is there is not a lot of choice, so you feel forced to come here.”

“Gym is very good, excellent equipment. Toilets are a let-down. Soap dispensers (on the wall) have been broken since I joined a year ago. They have bottles of liquid soap on the sink, 1 of which was empty when I was there yesterday.”

“The services and classes offered a good range. The changing rooms are becoming worn as a result of the number of people using them. It can be difficult to find free change cubicles during busy periods. Often cubicles are broken and not usable.”

“Enjoy my swimming especially active fir life session. Staff are always friendly, only negative is the parking cameras already had a dispute with them but still cost me £20”

“Having only returned to the Halo pool at Pyle after many years of absence, the facility is well presented. That said, the water temperature is in the chilly side when entering the water to the point I purposely didn't attend for Jan and much of February. The air temperature in the changing room is also too cold in the winter months.”

“The music is too loud when asked to turn down, they said it’s not possible as they don’t have control - i think this is unacceptable response, I’ve been asking abt this for few times and same answer is given, please be aware that some people are very sensitive to sounds. I suggest for management to solve this issue quickly, i think most people use their own musics anyway at the gym so I don’t think this is appropriate.”
