About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I only use the swimming pool on a Wednesday Ladies only session. I started in May 2021 & have been going nearly every week. For the last 4 years the session has changed from 50mins down to 45mins but unfortunately we don’t actually get into the pool until nearly 6.20pm as there are lessons on before & we are ‘kicked’ out dead on 7pm as the canoeing club in so we don’t get any extra time at the end of our session to make up the time lost before our session.”

“Often machines are broken and out of use for some time, the drinking water has been off but now working again, I was told a year ago when I joined that the changing rooms were being refurbished still have not been done and there are no lockers . I am looking at other gyms and would have left by now but the distance to other gyms is a problem.”

“Facilities are clean and tidy and the app is good for the most part for booking. Cannot comment on gym/classes as I don't use them but the swimming at Hereford Leisure Pool is not great and becoming worse. I normally attend lane swim at 6pm but recently cannot get a slot same or next day, have to seemingly book days/weeks in advance to get a look in. Appreciate the flip side of this that the pool may be at capacity and is busy enough as it is! Also, there seems to be no rule enforcement in the main pool. As stated above, I primarily attend lane swims which are stated to be designed for fitness swimming. Not children playing about/diving in or friends having a conversation mid length and holding everybody else up/blocking others. Not to mention a lot of people don't listen to the clockwise/anti-clockwise signs. Unfortunately though, the lifeguards enforce none of this and do not seem to get involved. There have been multiple instances where I've nearly injured myself due to one of the above points and am often met with shrugged shoulders from the lifeguards.”

“I've really enjoyed my time at halo ynysawdre. I did the spire channel charity swim and always had a lot of support from the staff. There are a few classes I would like to have joined,and definitely intend to join when I rejoin. The tai chi class looks right up my street. Even though circumstances prevent me from using the facility at the moment, I enjoyed my time there and look forward to when things may change and I have more time. Only one criticism, not a great response when calling the centre, could never get an answer and on several occasions, I drove there to sort out my enquiries. Apart from that one thing, it is a great facility. Kind Regards Gail Dazeley”

“Hi I would just like to comment so that hopefully there may be improvement. We live in cwmbran and use all 3 centres, cwmbran,pontypool and fairwater on a regular. We have always used the pools for evening swim through the summer and I am very disappointed to see the times and sessions you have on offer. There isn't hardly any opportunity for children to swim .they don't finish school until 3.30 and you dont offer evening sessions at any site yet most evenings you offer lane swimming. Children health is just as important as adults..sad to see .”

“It would have been a 4 star rating but I think the gym has gone downhill a bit later in terms of cleanliness (doesn’t always appear to have been cleaned) and also for some reason, very young children appear to often be in the gym”

“Hi use maesteg health suite regular, I am disabled and the staff always go out of their way to ask if I’m ok, I have used the chair to get in the pool even though I’m embarrassed by this, the staff reassured me that it’s there to help people like myself to access the pool and that they are always happy to help anyway they can.”
