About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“I visit Halo about 4 times a week the staff are always helpful and the changing rooms and gym are always clean. I get advice in the gym which machines are best for my personal use.”

“The staff are excellent, knowledgeable, helpful, sociable and approachable. Some of the equipment is getting a bit tired, and could do with updating. It’s easy to book and the parking is good. There’s a number of new places sprung up locally which are very competitively priced, a few of my friends have left as a result.”

“Positive - Professional, pleasant and helpful staff. Cleanliness has improved. Not so great - swimming schedule changes too much, not enough swimming for fitness times during the day (not everyone can utilise the early morning/late sessions). Suggestions - recycling bins in the changing rooms. Better lane management (slow swimmers in the fast lane etc)”

“The gym is quick good in the fact it has a swimming pool and younger kids can use the gym. Although there are a few things I think could be improved. First of all lack of equipment. At Holmleigh park sports center there isn’t that much equipment. There’s rack for squads bench or deadlift just a smith machine that is very stiff and sticky. Also there is no clear sticker or anything that says how much the bar weighs on it which is very confusing. Another reason is the opening times. On week days they open at 7:15 which is quite late considering most gyms are always open. This means that’s it’s hard for some people to fit a workout into there busy schedule me included. I’m sure many people agree with me on this. And as a final thing it is a bit more on the expensive side but if they make some changes I’m sure it will be a lot more worth it. Hopefully this is taken into consideration at holmleigh park.”

“The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help, and the trainers are truly excellent. However, I'm giving a 3-star rating instead of 5 because the facilities and some of the equipment are in need of modernisation. For instance, the space used for classes like Body Pump lacks mirrors, making it difficult to check and maintain proper form. Additionally, the equipment used in these classes feels quite outdated and could really benefit from an upgrade.”

“I am very grateful for the help I am receiving from the Halo Centre after having two hip replacements. I am on a doctors referral programme, I do Circuit and Aqua exercises which are supervised by very competant instructors. I feel the exercises are doing me good mentally as well as physically.”

“I've been attending the Bridgnorth Halo centre gym twice a week since January 2025. It's an excellent gymnasium with state of the art equipment. Rowing machines, crosstrainers, running machines, weights and many others. It's a lovely air-conditioned hall and the other members are a very friendly bunch of people.”

“The app for booking classes is great. I love that there is a waiting list to join if I didn’t make the original quota and receive notifications when a space becomes available. Such a wide variety of classes, with different instructors offering their own unique way and so friendly. This has played a major role in structuring my days in retirement and keeping me fit.”
