About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Helpfull, friendly staff, including the Manager. The courts are kept clean and ready to use. Consquently, the two over-fifty badminton groups have almost douybled in size.”

“I love being a member of Halo. I do wish the Pyle gym opened at 6am and the equipment in the gym could do with updating as it’s rusty and only 1 treadmill working. The max kettle bell is 10kg a 12kn and 16kg would be good. Staff always pleasant and friendly in all Bridgend county gyms”

“Always an enjoyable visit - staff pleasant and helpful. I use the library regularly, but my main activity is to use the Sports Hall for badminton once a week. While I appreciate that the hall is best utilised for large "led activity" groups, it can be frustrating not being able to book a court at certain times, and then finding the hall is empty. Otherwise, the centre appears to be a well run facility with many activities and clubs available.”

“HLP and HLC are brilliant venues. I love swimming and the aqua aerobics classes are brilliant, good fun, the instructors are really passionate and love to get the best out of their clients. The life guards are friendly and are very good at keeping swimmers safe. Thank you. The only downside with the HLP are the changing facilities. They are difficult to keep clean and could really do with a face lift keeping in keeping with the likes of Ross and Ledbury. HLC is also a fantastic venue, the staff in the gym are very helpful and knowledgeable. I am very happy with the new toning suite, the equipment in there is excellent, especially for those recovering from injury, have a disability or just need a helping hand. Thank you to all the staff at halo in Hereford for all your help and support. This encourages me to keep exercising.”

“Not great. Showers cold Toilets the worst smelling toilets and dirtiest toilets ever been in (not a one off, have been like this for months) Water tap didn’t work for 6 months Equipment (cables) took 4 months? To fix Whilst it’s not the gyms fault, the idea of opening up the gym to school kids during peak hours is wrong. Between 4 and 6 the gym is packed, you cannot get on any equipment due to kids everywhere. However they are not working out, they are messing around, on their phones. A group of lads will take the bench press for 40 mins between them….”

“On a positive, Bridgend Halo is amenable, has a variation of activities and has reasonable membership fees. The negative is that some of the classes routinely (for years) start late and finish late which causes all sorts of knock on issues, particularly when fitting these into a tight work schedule.”
