About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Good instructors, great classes only only let down by short opening times and dated equipment

The gym equipment is appalling, the training room is inadequate. The Sauna and jacuzzi is defective. Showers in the men's changing rooms are inadequate with the length of time of water. Often no body wash in the showers.

Thank you for your comments, we apologise about the gym equipment but the good news is we are having all new equipment installed on 19th and 20th February. In regards to the body wash please let a member of staff know if there is none available and the will be able to action immediately. Many Thanks

Nice centre. I only use it for swimming. If there were more classes for seniors that weren’t always fully booked I would use them.

The staff are always very helpful and polite. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The pool is clean and a pleasant environment. It would be nice to have the cafe open again.

Marcus is a excellent manager. The staff are great. All friendly and always helpful. There is a good atmosphere in the centre generally. On a less positive note, the new Spirt Equipment is pretty poor. It's not a patch on the Matrix stuff, which it has replaced. A number of the machines have already failed. There are now only 2 cross trainers, but 4 rowing machines. This ratio does not reflect the demand to use the cross trainers. Might it have been a good idea to ask key gym members there opinion before acting?

Far too small a gym for it's occupancy. Machines are too close together people find it difficult to walk past whilst you are using the equipment. Not enough equipment, you are waiting forever to get a go, far too busy with too many people on their phones rather than working out, holding up the machines. Too many kids at peak times, wasting time not knowing what they are doing and again holding up the equipment. I was paying full price as I am in full time work and could only go in the evenings. People on the benefit payment who do not work should not be going at this time as well as kids. Complete waste of money if you are a serious gym goer, I have now given my months notice and will be joining Nuffield health as a result.

Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on your experience at Halo. We truly appreciate your honesty and for sharing your concerns with us. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the small gym space and the proximity of the machines. We understand that this can make it difficult to maneuver around while using the equipment. We understand your frustration as a full-time worker paying full price for your membership and not being able to fully utilize the facilities due to these issues. Your happiness and satisfaction are very important to us, and we want to make things right. Your insights will help us make the necessary changes to create a better experience for you and our other valued members. Halo Team

Staff are lovely, the new equipment in the gym is hit or miss. Unfortunately the amount of cardio equipment seems to have reduced an awful lot so if you're going at a peak time it can be difficult to get your desired machine.

Hi, Thank you for the positive feedback and the four star review, we appreciate anyone who takes the time to leave a review. In terms of the the equipment, we had a refurbishment on the 9th of December which took a few days, we had lots of new equipment and a little redecoration upstairs which people were quite happy with. We did have equipment taken away as well which would make it seem that we have less equipment up stairs but it's because there is more variety of new machines. If you do have any more questions or any concerns then please speak to one of our staff members or give the centre a call on 01989 763487. Thank you. Ross halo team.

Like many other older people in the Garw Valley I value the Halo Centre immensely to motivate me to keep fit with kettle bells and Tai Chi. I have been very pleased recently to see some refurbishments to rooms which have been falling apart (hole in the wall, light fittings etc) have at last been completed after many years. My only complaint is that the large sports hall has no heating. I know for a fact that several of my fellow keep fit colleagues no longer attend classes in the winter because of the cold, and this is ironic with the government requesting community organisations to provide warm spaces at this time of year to reduce people's home heating bills. From a marketing perspective, it is difficult to encourage people to come back in the summer once they have given up classes over the winter. Halo really needs to look at this. It takes a lot of courage to attend a class at a venue that is often colder inside than the outside temperature. Other than that, Halo is highly valued but could do with a really good marketing strategy to inspire more people to make use of a potentially excellent community facility.

The classes are good, instructors are amazing , other staff are mostly friendly and facilities also of good quality. However, cleanliness and maintenance are letting Halo down. I’m looking at other options as the membership price has gone up nearly 20% but standards have dropped and hygiene is not pleasant being in the changing rooms or anywhere if I am being honest. The spa in particular needs a good clean and repairs required in the sauna itself to the wooden slats. The steam room requires scrubbing by hand to clean all the tiles plus repairs to loose tiles on the floor.

It's a very friendly atmosphere. I'm 85 and go three times a week just to be able to keep moving. I'm always welcomed with a smile and hello. Never feel awkward.

Very much enjoy going, staff are great, never had any problems but i will say a few points for the future: More bicep related equipment needed in the gym. Cut bookings for social swimming as it’s very cramped and you cant swim properly in the shallow even when it’s not fully booked. Change bins more regular in the swimming changing rooms as it can smell very strong. Seems to be small flys gathering in the shower areas last few times i have been that should be looked at asap. Change the vending machines to something more reliable iv tried using them twice and did not get what i wanted as it was broke.

I miss butterfly chest machine, need more then one abs bench, need extra dumbell bars. Machine are old and rusty with missing weight stickers so unsure what weight you are using. Only weight scale would be nice to check weight quickly. Toilets are rather dirty and smells. Baby soft play is very dirty not nice for little kids.

Very good centre good staff but could do with some more disabled parking as I am limited to the times I attend as I have only 1 arm and blue badge but need room to swing my car door open and find normal bays too small with a only few spaces.
