About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Not great. Showers cold Toilets the worst smelling toilets and dirtiest toilets ever been in (not a one off, have been like this for months) Water tap didn’t work for 6 months Equipment (cables) took 4 months? To fix Whilst it’s not the gyms fault, the idea of opening up the gym to school kids during peak hours is wrong. Between 4 and 6 the gym is packed, you cannot get on any equipment due to kids everywhere. However they are not working out, they are messing around, on their phones. A group of lads will take the bench press for 40 mins between them….”

“On a positive, Bridgend Halo is amenable, has a variation of activities and has reasonable membership fees. The negative is that some of the classes routinely (for years) start late and finish late which causes all sorts of knock on issues, particularly when fitting these into a tight work schedule.”

“Well equipped and friendly local leisure and fitness centre - great gym with some brilliant brand new equipment, sports halls for 5-a-side, badminton etc. and really good range of popular classes throughout the week. Staff are welcoming, cheerful and helpful. Only possible criticism is that the gym closes at lunchtime on Saturday and Sunday.”

“Our halo staff, the facilities, the classes and the equipment are fantastic. The opening hours are terrible for a gym… not open on a Saturday and Sunday after 2.30?!? The building needs work but I won’t complain too much.”

“The gym equipment is appalling, the training room is inadequate. The Sauna and jacuzzi is defective. Showers in the men's changing rooms are inadequate with the length of time of water. Often no body wash in the showers.”
