About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Needs better gym equipment”

“This little gem has grown under the excellent management of Marcus and his team. The group exercise classes are varied and fun. The gym area is well equipped, friendly and clean”

“Lovely friendly staff and always kept immaculately clean. My only complaint is the number of people allowed into the gym in the evening is far too high, have noticed groups of teenagers, one person scanning in and five sneaking in behind, need to control this.”

“Ledbury pool is a good local facility for those who can organise their swim, sauna and steam room sessions around the rather restrictive timetable that Halo offer. I only kept my membership at the pool for two months because of the difficult timetabling situation that is operated. The pool can only be used during specific time periods and there are many times throughout the day where the sauna and steam room cannot be used. For me personally, I prefer a leisure centre where I can use the facilities at whichever time of day I am able to get there. It is a very bizarre system that is operated and between sessions the pool is closed. On some occasions I was asked to get out of the pool for 15 minutes before being able to get back in for the next session with a new lifeguard. Despite the poorly organised timetable, the pool is clean and well maintained.”

“Been training at the Pencoed site for years. Aways asked to submit a review and not much has changed each year. Usually use the weights section in the gym but it’s so small, if others are using the equipment you won’t get on, which is difficult as I have to go on my work lunch break. They have put in all new cardio equipment and a new cable machine but the bench is battered and they’ve taken away the smyth machine, this was promised to be returned or a new one to replace it in 2023 and there’s still no sign of another one. But as usual, Halo have put their membership fee up like they do every year. They really need to pay more attention to the Pencoed gym as it’s just too small for the amount of people that do actually train there. The pool is fine, changing rooms have recently been updated. What I will say is I find that almost all of the staff at Pencoed are so nice and polite! Unlike staff at some of the other sites!!!”

“Friendly, welcoming and helpful. Really enjoy classes as well as the gym. Usually visit 3/4 times a week. TRX equipment could do with renewing. Would like to see weightlifting for ladies in the daytime as well as the evenings.”

Thank you for your 5 star rating and positive and constructive feedback. We have purchased some new TRX equipment so you will see that in the classes soon. The ladies weightlifting is a new class which we are testing. It is very popular and we are exploring other options of classes but do require qualified staff as it is a specialist qualification needed to take the class. Hopefully we can sort soon. “Staff are always friendly, knowledgable and accommodating The centre is clean and tidy Safety features are kept handy and as far as I can see up to date Swimming pool is perfect for my needs and the gym is not full of preening boasting types it is family friendly”
