About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Tried to cancel but was told I need medical proof I am struggling to walk and am waiting for a knee replacement surgery and still have to pay monthly so please be aware

Never answers the phone and messes the system up repeatedly, have tried to cancel my membership for nearly two months but gave up trying to ring. Ridiculous

Regardless of the building work being undertaken the experience at Pyle pool is always dissapointing. Staff always appear disengaged and uninterested. There is no atmosphere from the point you walk in to the point you leave.

I do not know why you have asked me to comment, I have not been at this centre for well over 2 -3 years. My membership is currently on hold due to the pandemic as I have not re activated my membership as yet. If my membership has been started again it’s without my consent and I would like to be notified if and why it’s started again. I have not given any consent for payments to start again

Ridiculous charges for missed appointments for swimming and spa as my monthly membership it’s only £10,90 and they charged £15 just for a missed appointment, and even worst when u missing a payment as I’ve lost my card and the new one was on its way back and they charged me another £15 just because it wasn’t the right bank card , in other words there it’s theyr money coming from out of this ridiculous charges wich they are more than my monthly membership , instead £10,90 monthly membership I been charged £40,90 for a month going to the gym , thinking very seriously to cancel my membership with halo as I never seen a gym changing u £15 for a bounced payment …very bad experience

Poor facilities. Pool is really nice however everything else is terrible. Never staff in the gym - gym in terrible condition poor equipment. Changing facilities poor. Not great experience during my time as a member

Its poor for me as i can no longer use the pool due to an inadequate hoist. I have severe arthritis and the hoist stops to far from the bottom of the pool and i have taken up the mobility class instead however you can provide no cover for the disabled when the instructor is away. All the staff however are amazing at what they can do. My husband peter french and i have been attending halo at ledbury for 8 years and it has been an ongoing problem.

Hi Peter Its great that you feel our staff are amazing in what you do. I agree the Pool Pod wasn't placed in the best position during installation, we think the metal bar is preventing the hoist from going down any further and totally understand your frustration. When the Pool Pod company are next on site to do their service we will investigate if anything can be done to make the Pool pod to go down lower. The mobility class is very specialised, the instructor needs to be Gym Level 4 qualified, we only currently have Sue qualified to this level. This is currently being looked at company wide to upskill staff. Many Thanks Ledbury Swimming Pool

Anyone and everyone walks in and uses the facilities for free. We have to shower with tramps and yet get charged for missed appointments despite paying monthly membership. No air con, closes early on Sunday. A complete shambles!

I found that both gyms were not clean, all the equipment is in a very poor condition and not maintained correctly. There wereI lot of unsupervised young people who have no gym etiquette sitting on pieces of equipment reading their mobile phones while people are waiting to use that piece of equipment. In both gyms there are no visible supervisors

Awful. the changing room for the pool is stinking dirty, 15 mins has been taken off swim times for cleaning and sanitising which is never done. the pool attendants late to open the pool sometimes by fifteen mins meaning you only get 30 mins to swim. The so called manager hides in his office all day doing nothing while the staff are left to their own devices. No structure, No management, No cleaning.

There is no signal nor wifi there, it is terribly hot with no or little AC and windows don’t open, facilities are old and there isn’t much equipment, it’s also very small. I don’t enjoy it and I definitely don’t think it’s worth the price and I’m thinking about cancelling

Entry system is pathetic. Anyone can walk in unchecked hence the high number of thefts from locker rooms. I know of at least 5 regular gym users who are not paid members and never book in. Staff are disinterested and apathetic. General maintenance is poor. Half the men's locker room ceiling is missing, paint is flaking off the walls, toilets are always smelly and dirty. Some gym equipment is unusable as it is 'Out of order' and has been for at least 3 weeks. Expectation for gym users to wipe down equipment after use is often impossible as blue paper towel dispensers remain unfilled for long periods. Overall this place is more 'Lifeless' than Life Centre

Boring classes which cater for new joiners who can’t do the activity so that loyal customers are ignored Know many people who stopped going to yoga classes as it was the same every class for years Also hated the fact everything had to be booked including gym and you are penalised for non attendance The strikes out policy mean that if you pay membership and don’t go because you have a job or commitments that aren’t predicable then you have pay meaning you are effectively charged twice which is outrageous The centre is in poor repair often buckets catching water Poor choice of activities Most classes stale Been a member for years and kept hoping it would get better but finally gave up

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate the time you have taken to reply and give your feedback. We have booking rules in place due to the number of people who were not turning up and therefore stopping others from attending. This policy has been in place for a while and has reduced the amount who were booking in and not attending. Sometimes there are situations where users have been unable to attend. If you contact the team who may be able to assist you. You mention having a leaking roof and buckets around. I'm not sure if you have us mixed up with another building as we do not have this problem. We have Yoga once a week but also have a variety of other classes which can be attended. We will ensure that the staff are made aware of your comments. Kind regards Ynysawdre Staffing Team.

It does the job but definitely not the best place to go. I walked into the reception the other day and the staff were making fun of someone that didn't speak English very well. It was quite disheartening to hear, and they didn't stop even after I walked through to sign in. The ladies changing room has bits of eaten food that has been left there, the showers often smell like the sewers and the lockers... don't lock. Every time I go to the ladies, there is no toilet paper. The gym facility isn't so bad, some of the equipment is quite worn down but that's to be expected. It can often smell sewer-like in the gym but I only get it once in a while by the gym mats and the water dispenser. Overall, I'm quite disappointed by the way some of the staff behave and the overall cleanliness of the changing rooms.

Offered free halo passes to disability family back in October (2021) last year and said it would take a couple of weeks to process. Received passes My 2022. It took 7 months not a couple of weeks to process!

Dirty changing rooms. The gym is tiny with hardly any equipment and it’s all very old. The building looks like it’s going to fall down.
