About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 25 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Merthyr Tydfil, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

The instructor who took the classes I attended was always friendly and I enjoyed the classes. The reason for leaving was that the halo leisure centres , particularly the recreation centre filthy and the customer service Is poor. Reception staff are often rude , unhelpful and unprofessional. The communication amongst the staff is terrible and often the reception staff aren't aware of activities or able to provide useful information. I have decided to leave and join Nuffield health.

Gym is very basic, but does the job. However, account management is awful. £15 fees are added repeatedly for one late payment but no options to discuss the payment, I could not get in touch with anybody to cancel my membership as unavailable online and number always busy.

The gym and pool is very dated. When I went to the gym most machines were out of order. It was a lot better when the Hereford centres were included in the price. Ross Halo is just very run down dirty and very dated. Does not compete with other pools or gyms

Hi Mathew, With regards to the gym equipment, we currently don't have anything out of order, some of the treadmills are turned off to try and reduce our environmental impact, but there is signage on them to say if you would like to use them, then please ask the gym instructor. We also have a very rigorous cleaning schedule that is implemented throughout the day, 7 days a week. We do still have the option for all sites on our memberships but it does cost slightly more. In terms of our facilities, we had a refurbishment in 2015 and if any issues do occur we do our best to sort it out as fast as possible. Thank you for the feedback, if you would like to speak to someone please come in or give us a call. Ross Halo Team.

Equipment in gym is broken and has not been repaired, maybe nearly 2 months now for the cables? Showers run hot and cold. Leaking in area between mens changing rooms and toilets Toilets always in poor condition (smell!) Lack of confidence in showers being cleaned, I see marks that have been there more months, Inc sink area next to showers Water machine doesn’t work! Minor issue but check in system doesn’t always work

Dirty, poor selection of equipment and members have to pay to park, on top of £35/month membership fee

Very expensive and not value for money.A reduced membership price should be available for OAPs and married couples. Not enough classes.Should have a Body Combat class at least. Poor customer relations from some staff Must improve

I can say with confidence that I will never return to Halo facility after the poor scheduling that’s not catered for working people and poor outdated facilities. With being a veteran in the military I’ve spent many years at the gym and the facilities provided by yourself must be the worst I’ve ever experienced by far.

Hi, sorry to hear you have left us due to the lack of class availability. I am not sure which classes you couldn't get into but if it was indoor cycling then the extended studio will be opening next week which will offer a class capacity of 25. Thanks Matt

Shower facilities are something you’d find in a youth hostel in a 3rd world country. No sign of cleaning or maintenance in years . Dirty beyond a joke . With covid only being a few years ago you’d expect a refurbishment or send the cleaners in . Bad enough the school children have to use the same facilities and use as a quick use toilet by the smell A complete disgrace for Bridgnorth residents.

All the time something is broken...gym stairs (both) treadmill and more ... very annoying. Problem with entering the gym. I need to book time on my app but when I am in the gym screen sometimes works sometimes not, once I had 8£ penalty to pay „because I booked and didnt come” which wasnt true , someone turned off screen so I couldn't scan anything Very humiliating fighting to not pay £8 penalty when it's not my fault .... and I pay £36 a month. Not everyone at the front desk is nice.

Hi Thank you for your feedback, we are very disappointed to receive a 1 star rating and hope we can improve going forward. The posters you have photographed are not out of order signs. They indicate where a piece of machinery has been turned off to save energy. With the current energy crisis we are doing everything we can to save on costs to enable our business to sustain. You will see some gym kit turned off during quiet times. Please feel free to speak to a Gym Instructor if you need to use the equipment. We do know we have 2 pieces of equipment awaiting new parts which are on order. We do have a new Gym Entry Tablet on order as we recognise the current ones is often not working. If you find the gym entry screen not on you can check in via the pods in the corridor with your App or at Reception with your gym card. This will stop any non attendance charges. I hope this will improve your experience next time, Kind regards, Halo Hereford Team

The swimming pool is very dated and dirty! The only attraction there is a slide which is always out of order. You need your own padlock for the lockers which is annoying too. I only go there because is local and cheap.

I have had a terrible experience which I have raised with Matt Turner and Henley Bank High School. Dear Sir/Madam Formal complaint I have twice raised a complaint with Henley Bank High School via email on 17th December 2022 and 12th January 2023. On 3rd January 2023, I received an email from Henley Bank High School stating that my complaint had been forwarded to the relevant members of staff. However, I have still not received a response. I have therefore decided to contact you as CEO of Greenshaw Learning Trust because I am unable to obtain a reply from Henley Bank High School. I have been swimming at Brockworth School for many years. I have also swum at the Leisure Centre in Cheltenham and Sandford Parks Lido when children have been present in the pool and changing areas. Since the Brockworth Pool re-opened on 7th November 2022, I have usually been swimming on a Friday lunchtime. I park in the overflow car park. On a couple of occasions, on returning to the car park after swimming, as I have walked past the tennis courts, a couple of the students have briefly spoken to me. I have not looked to initiate a conversation with them. I have replied briefly and politely. When I was leaving after swimming in November, two members of staff from Henley Bank High School were outside the sports centre. They were both male. One of them was in his thirties or forties, with spikey dark hair, slim build, maybe 5'6" tall, in navy blue school kit. The other man had close cropped grey hair, glasses, in his forties, maybe 6", medium build, wearing school kit including shorts. Both members of staff looked at me critically, then the man in shorts with glasses clearly followed me to the car park. I found this highly offensive. Both members of staff clearly felt that I was in some way a danger to the students. It made me feel very unpleasant and uncomfortable. I also had a swim on the last Friday of the school term before Christmas. The green gates were wide open and the students had left, although it was lunchtime. After my swim, there was nobody apparent in the sports centre. In the past, I have done yoga and pilates in the evening. I wondered what had happened to the studio room since the sports centre was redesigned and the gym was built. Perhaps I shouldn't have done it, but no children were about, I couldn't see any members of Halo staff and I decided to have a look at the other side of the building from the pool. I was spotted by the member of staff described above with the dark spikey hair. The Halo Lifeguard Chris then quickly appeared shouting "Hello" and I felt brusquely chased out of the building at the instigation of the member of staff employed by Henley Bank High School. I am very upset, more by the behaviour of the staff employed by Henley Bank High School than by anyone from Halo. I would not wish to endanger or harm any student. I have swum at Brockworth Pool for many years. I have swum at Brockworth when children have been present in the pool and changing rooms, and in a similar way at leisure@Cheltenham and Sandford Parks Lido. I was made to feel unwelcome and a danger. I do not know whether there is a problem of children at Henley Bank High School being inadequately supervised on Friday lunchtimes. On several occasions as I walk back to the car in the overflow car park, children have spoken to me or made cheeky remarks. Perhaps they have not been instructed to refrain from talking to customers of Halo Leisure or maybe they ignore any such directions. Possibly, there is a training requirement for staff at Henley Bank High School or other employees need to take on the responsibility of such management. I thank you for your attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully Mr Richard Cooke Dear Mr Turner Thank you for your email. I have only received two emails from you; one on 12th January and one at 9:27 this morning. I live with three other people and the house is rarely empty. You have never telephoned my number. In your email this morning, you have asked me for my telephone number to call me on. It is 01242 513036. There are no emails from you in my spam. You have not tried to make contact several times by email and telephone. My complaint relates to the behaviour of two members of staff employed by Henley Bank High School towards me. I should be grateful if you would please give me the name of the principal of Henley Bank High School, the chair of the board of governors and the name of the organisation which regulates Henley Bank High School. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Yours sincerely Mr Richard Cooke PLEASE WILL SOMEONE FROM HALO HEAD OFFICE RESPOND TO ME?
